    Steveson’s Behavior

Against Derek White in the start of the season White did no staredown, had no extra-curriculars, and never did anything like turtling up. White just got beat. Stevenson still went to the rope-a-dope dancing. I have no problem with it, but we can't pretend it's all frustration at opponents inactivity or retaliation at opponents trash talk. He's just a guy enjoying himself and putting on a show and trying to be a star. Some like it and some don't. To each their own. But lets not pretend it's brought on by his opponents.

Attempting to answer #6 above... When a program is "spoiled" by having a 4x NCAA Champ, a 4x Finalist/3x Champ, true freshman champ, and 4x AA's, all at the same time, anyone who fills a weight class has expectations that are darn near unreasonable by 98% of the other team's standards. But... these ARE the standards at tOSU AND PSU. If you don't run a high likelihood of AAing, then the fanbase immediately calls that weight class and person as a "hole" in the lineup. Compound that with the heir apparent in Kharchla coming next year, and you have a recipe for "jumping off" the bandwagon. My attempt at logic... in an illogical time...

As far as I can tell every wrestling forum is the same dozen posters yelling at each other about the same things in perpetuity so they are all pretty much the same.

My perspective is that I enjoy it because I don’t pull for a team with a big enough following to have their own dedicated message board (like Iowa, etc). I like coming here to see a multitude of topics and teams being discussed. And for the most part I’ve had great interactions with everyone on this board as I’m relatively new.

    Bo’s Gesture of Sportsmanship

Bo Nickal has been offering a hand-up to opponents he’s just pinned. He appears sincere while doing so and I haven’t observed any opponents who’ve been offended by this gesture. I think our sport could use more of this; a return to a higher level of outward mutual respect among wrestlers. Dominating an opponent, putting on a show for the fans while displaying respect and good sportsmanship used to be the rule rather than the exception. It starts with parents and coaches. Food for thought.

Hammer, your feelings get hurt too easy. I know this forum is the one area in your life where you can pretend to be the man, I get it, but relax, it’s just a dumb forum. You need a good lay more than anyone I’ve ever “met”.

Last night i wasn't in favor of people saying Bo Nickal was a great sportsmen for what I considered to be small gestures, well tonight I am going to say Steveson shouldn't be lambasted for equally small gestures.

I can say this much , I lurked on this site for a few years . I found this forum to have the best info and intelligence offered imo. I’m a fan but have no where near the acumen that most posters have here . That being said , for an average fan like me , this is by far the best forum I’ve seen . People on here have taught me a lot and have helped me understand and enjoy NCAA wrestling better . That’s why I finally joined . Thank you to all .

OK State at Rutgers will be on Flo. Its listed on the events page, although with so many duals coming up you don't have to click the 'see more' button. We also keep this page dated all year long and keep it pinned as the first event on the event page. Looking forward to the dual. We may have as many as 5 Flo Friends all on site in Jersey!

Agreed mostly. Good post. 2. Agreed. The clock look was amateur for someone as seasoned as Martin. Coaches should've told him to get another takedown and not go for the rideout. He had over 30 seconds left and was scoring almost at will. 4. Hayes isn't AAing at 157 if he wrestles like this. He has to get to try to be offensive. His best position is top. Why not try to get there? If he tries to go takedown for takedown when he is way smaller than everyone, he is going to take more Barone type losses. He is a very good wrestler, but his style is killing me. 5. Seems like they are going to give Malik a shot. It appears to be a bit premature, but they see him in the room everyday against NATO, Pletcher, McKenna, Stieber, etc. Him AAing is possible if he has put on a bit more strength and cleaned up his defense since we saw him last. 6. not sure why everyone is off the Romero bandwagon all of a sudden. He is a redshirt freshman who is borderline top 20. He is unlikely to place this year, but we know he is an excellent athlete and has been working hard. He has a great shot at AAing before the end of his career

After I pinned David Taylor, I’d reach out to help him up but pull my hand back all slick like and run it through my hair, smiling for the crowd.

He stumbled and passed out. The wrestlers weren’t touching each other. Right beforehand, it looks like he bumped his head on the mat but it didn’t look that serious. Could have happened from that, or could be just from exhaustion/dehydration. The two heavyweights were evenly matched and really pushing the pace in a scramble right beforehand. Either way, he stumbled and went completely unconscious. Letting them resume wrestling, even after going through concussion protocol, is irresponsible.

    Bo’s Gesture of Sportsmanship

Like, for example, be humble in winning by extending a hand to your opponent? I like what Bo does better than the guys who flex over their opponents and things of that sort after beating them.

    Bo’s Gesture of Sportsmanship

Bo is one of my favorite non Tar Heels to watch. He seems like he is the epitome of class. I completely agree with your sentiment about him seeming sincere and bringing great sportsmanship to every match. There are also some funny stories about him from teammates I’ve heard on podcasts. I look forward to seeing his career after college as well.

    Fave non-favorite teams

Really enjoy watching the small private schools like Lehigh, Cornell, Harvard, Bucknell, etc.. due to their combination of academics and athletics. West Point, Naval Academy & Air Force are easy to cheer for because when they have an AA it's a true AA. No redshirting, academics are a must and they still have to be great in athletics but they must also participate in the military aspect of the school. Those young men & women that attend one of the military academies are truly special individuals.

    Best High School Team Ever?

this is awesome... I think the Privates that recruit... I.e. Blair... are encouraged to do so, and can do so, due to Tuition fees and what not. Now... in my high school (public, in Ohio), we were damn good in the 90's. My coach definitely "recruited", but it wasn't like how the privates do it. It was more of "wrestle for me and you can wrestled at almost any college you want" type of promise. And... quite frankly, he pulled a few from around the state. It wasn't traditional recruiting though... it was more of the coach being a "known commodity" in the wrestling world, and then the kid saying... wait... it's "ok" academically, it's top notch in wrestling, and the cost of living in that area is pretty low... and the parent saying... sure... my job allows me to do this/make this move... let's do it. I wasn't recruited by this coach... instead, I "grew up" in and was a product of his homegrown "farm system". He introduced the youth wrestling concept there, and the rest was history (started in 3rd grade). Now... I'm middle-aged, fat, out of shape, and a super fan of the sport that I used to be a proud part of!

    Best High School Team Ever?

While I agree, let's not kid ourselves and think public schools don't recruit just as much as private schools. They may not be as good at it but one only has to look in Las Vegas at football players or California in every sport to see that public schools are also on the recruiting bandwagon. Sadly, the days of completely home grown teams may be gone.
