    Rutgers

it's been fun to watch Rutgers go from EIWA bottom dweller to a competitive top 20 team. I'm a big fan of their coaching staff and their wrestlers. I suppose when people see positive gains in places they are unfamiliar with they get defensive and their insecurities come out. For some reason Rutgers has been for a few years now a lightning rod for those insecure wrestling fans. But the truth is New Jersey remains a wealthy, vibrant state that also consistently produces quality high school wrestlers from nearly every county, which is reflected in the competitiveness of all three D1 garden state programs. You can nit pick and poke holes in Rutgers just like you can any program, and if that's what you enjoy doing then have fun I guess. seems like a miserable existence to me but as long as I don't have to live it, ya'll can go for it!

I think the unsportsmanlike call came from a face mush right after the whistle, which got the crowd to start booing him, so he carried on... Some people strive win and lose with grace. Other people are DeSanto. At least he's consistent.

First off, kudos to the staff, wrestlers and all involved to get the program where it is today. Hope this is viewed as constructive critique. As a fan I want them to ascend higher in the B10 but with conduct, recruiting, etc have concerns if they are on the right path. Agree, disagree? Observations from matches over the weekend: -prior to match OSU team on the mat, drilling, moving with purpose, Smith watching the entire time on side of mat -prior to match RU coaches talking and mingling with those in the crowd, not all the team on the mat, most just wasting energy walking around in circles -for Ashnault match skirmish at the end - Smith chewed out his kid not once as he came off the match, but another as he walked he away and called him back again ( I watched it) He was major league pissed at him. Goodale in his presser passes off Ashnault gun action as having fun, no big deal. -Smith mentioned he likes coming up here because good for recruiting too. Does RU recruit down there? -Suriano showboating after win in WI match that 2 more days until the big match. Both their top guys do this kind of crap. I notice most other teams (coaches and wrestlers) in the B10 (especially those at the top) conduct themselves in a more professional and purposeful manner. Recruiting - who are they landing? Need more than 2 AA's to be a real solid competitive team in the B10. Ash was only signature recruit, Suriano they got lucky with. Granted the studs who can go anywhere will be tough to keep home but how come solid AA's such as say a McFadden go elsewhere? Why'd Lewis go to VT, Howard going to PSU? RU needs like 5 AA's to get to next level.

Not the best day for PSU

I agree with all you have said here, I think Wisconsin was just overmatched in alot of the stalling calls, but definitely some stalling. Not really directed at you, but I have not seen any mention of the PSU 125 and 165 stalling. No stalling calls for Wisconsin? Not one? Come on .... After being taken down Manville stalled whole period.

People from NJ don't want to go there either. That's the bigger problem. If Rutgers could dominate in-state recruiting they'd bet very good in wrestling (and in football and basketball, too). But no one in NJ grows up dreaming about going to Rutgers. They do get some of the top wrestling recruits (Suriano via transfer, Ashnault and Scott Winston). Winston was a bust. Suriano and Ashnault may work out.

The match was over. It was like 6-1 and there were two seconds left. Lizak wasn't trying to do anything because time was expiring and DeSanto decided to go full spaz as time expired. DeSanto completely out classed Lizak in the match. It would have served him far better to simply take the 6-1 win (or whatever it was) without the spazoid face mush in the final second for no reason. The idea of winning with grace seems to be lost on the kid.

You would probably sound like a dork as well if immediately after winning yourself and your team a National Title you have uberdork Quint Kessenich jamming a mike in your face after one of the most emotional moments of your life. For the record I found it kinda dorky as well, but ESPN could let a kid celebrate with family for 5 minutes then interview a kid.

Indiana vs Maryland - Wow, just wow

On Indiana’s side, I’m going to tell you there is a night and day difference, from this year to last. And with pretty much the same lineup. The wrestlers are getting coached up. The only change thus far.

    Missouri - '18/'19

I just don’t see how he beats McKenna. McKenna knows Eierman’s style well. He has to stay conservative and pick his shots when he can finish cleanly. He is technically sound enough to do that all day vs Eierman. Eierman always has a chance, but I think he has a worse chance vs McKenna than Yianni and I’m picking Yianni to win it all. Styles make matches and Eierman is at a weight with two guys that have the style to beat him. I think Eierman has a great shot at winning 149, if he has the size for it.

    Stoll #1?

Actually, it is far more the fans of other schools and some fans of your school that feel that way. Cael Sanderson doesn't feel that way and the evidence for that statement is strong. His teams show up and wrestle every dual to win. You'll be hard pressed to find too many PSU fans that will say they think duals don't matter either. And besides what they say, their actions say they think duals do matter. How many sell outs in a row for Penn State? A great many now. It isn't my issue that some fans are disgruntled their team doesn't win so they take up this PHONY mantra.

I think there is some truth to some of these natural approaches, but a lot of them it simply is the placebo effect. Dake is obviously a smart guy and he admits it could simply be the placebo effect. But even if it is, as long as it makes him feel good, I say go for it. You’ve got to commend his discipline and his commitment to doing all the little things right. He’s got to be one of the most discipline guys I’ve ever seen. Ever notice how low he stays in his stance, and that he always makes contact with his head first and never reaches? That is very impressive that he will not compromise his position
