    Yeah but they will have ZERO Idaho state champions on the team. That's a crying shame.

    WrestleStat Rankings

    Rankings took some heat recently, like all ranking sites, for what various readers thought were inaccurate rankings. "Opinions" are always subject to criticism by someone, somewhere; makes sports talk fun and interesting hearing other views. I'm writing to suggest that, for the benefit of wrestling as a sport, the time and work put into the WrestleStat Rankings is valuable and , at least by me, very much appreciated. Thanks for the stats and all the hard work. Look forward to see the improvements you bring next year and the year after. Mizzou Fan! PS. Can't believe you don't have Mizzou ranked ahead of Penn State! Ha!

    HAHA, criticizes someone for saying “game” rather than “match” and continues to not know how to add. Interesting.

    Tired jokes and repeat banality are half our posts. Without them some couldn't even post at all. What would this board be like without yes-you-are-no-i'm-not, Carl, fun, national duals, ducking, freestyle is wonderful, etc? We all have a moral obligation to bludgeon others in to submission by repeating our prejudices ad nauseam and having the last word. Our creed is that facts are only born of repeated drivel. Dave Schultz/Royce Alger Story

    Dave wasn't truly malicious though. He might do some mean stuff on the mat, but afterwards he'd be your best friend and show you exactly what he was doing to make you not feel so good. One of my coaches wrestled Dave at the open or Sunkist one year and this was like a year or two before he was murdered. He saw my coach warming up and knew a little about him and was saying how he should try doing certain things because of his build. Then my coach says to Dave, you realize we're wrestling soon right? And Dave says, oh yeah, and then continues showing him some technique. Then they get called to the mat and before my coach went out he asked whoever was coaching him, maybe Lee Roy, what he should do. And whoever it was said, if you shoot he might tear your arm out, if you don't he might throw you on your head. Of course Dave won and almost took his shoulder right out and afterwards was coming off the mat and was like hey, try this and went right back to showing him whatever it was they were doing before. So even though on the mat he was tough and nasty, he wasn't really a bully who would hurt you for laughs and was smug about it. He wanted you to get better, I think, because he thought that would help him raise his game to a higher level because then he would have to improve if the people around him he wrestled knew what he was doing. And if he could do that then he would be able to beat the Russians. Also because I just don't think he was really a mean spirited guy. Like he really wanted guys to get better even if he didn't wrestle them because then they would do better for Team USA.

    Didn't Marstellar just get a TD on Joseph? It was a counter shot, but they still count.

    Taking down Vincenzo Joseph

    Has anyone taken him down via their own attack? Meaning not via an attempted TD or throw by Joseph which resulted in Joseph on his back (e.g. matches vs Subjeck or vs Marinelli or a counter stepover vs Isaac Jordan)? I think IMar has done it a few times but anyone else? It seems Joseph has some of the best TD defense w/o the use of funk. Just straight up hips of stone.

    3 years or 4 til ISU tops Iowa?

    Yes, Iowa has not lived up to that standard. However, to expect Iowa to win every year like they used to requires you to completely ignore the landscape of wrestling right now. PSU has won 7 of the last 8 titles. Ohio St. has emerged as a contender every year. Okie St, Michigan, NC St. Missouri, and Cornell are all trophy contenders every year. Look at Iowa's points from last year with 97 points. That point total would have been enough to win 2008-2011. Iowa has not slipped, the bar has been raised. Look at their team now. 9 ranked guys and they are not considered a legit contender. One thing has not changed. Iowa is one of the top teams every single year. They have not finished lower than 8th at nationals since 1972 I believe. Thats insane. Maybe Iowa has slipped when compared to PSU alone, but they have not really dropped under Brands too far. Their ability to stockpile talent these last few years leads me to believe that Brands is the best coach to keep them in that discussion, and possibly pick up a few more titles.

    Also, 3x undefeated NCAA champs: McCready, Ardnt, VanBebber, Rex Perry, & 3x one loss NCAA champs: Flood, Henson, Hutton (mentioned above), that's not even full 3x list but then could go to 2x and 1x list ;_;

    Dave Schultz/Royce Alger Story

    I wrestled Dave in practices during Stanford summer camps in 1986. He outweighs me but wow, I don’t know how but he easily threw me over his head EVEN when we were at neutral starting positions! His techniques were out of the world and hard to duplicate. He didn’t brutalize me probably because I was about 16 that time. I wasn’t a threat to him- More like an ant to him. I knew that Royce Alger was quite a bull back then. I have seen Royce bull-roll against Kevin Jackson (the same 3x world champ) in 1987 NCAA finals at U of MD. Royce was the kind that would do heavy bull rush every time he wrestle. (He was at super bull level, way above Alex Marinelli level), I would assume that Dave knew that Royce outweighed him and would be a problem for him. I would think Dave had to show Royce that Dave wasn’t the one to mess around or do a bull run on. I guessed It worked for Dave as Royce is forced to respect him at the practices.
