Dude - everyone on this board is telling you the same thing. Go watch some youtube videos - Pendleton and Burroughs are nothing alike.

Not sure how Pendelton is considered a good proxy for Burroughs; very different styles.

    Best pinning move?

I've told this story before- not positive it was this year but it was the Sheridan with Thacker. I was doing the weighins. We had an old Betsy scale. It was a spin around dial with a balance bar across the center. It only went up to 250- I remember that because 126 was almost dead straight up (I almost screwed Tom Koch about 15 years later thinking it was off until I realized the dial was slightly above the dial face). On the bar you could slide a weight to add 150 and get a max of 400. (Possibly 125 and 375). Tab was last. He came up. I told him to not even bother getting on. I asked how much. He said 375. I stared at him. He said 395. I kept staring. He said 415- I said Sold!

Why not a Tournament of Champions?

It's been well documented on this forum you are an overly sensitive millennial. Now if I had said that it would have been more appropriate since I'm a crotchety old curmudgeon.

If top man cannot score or put bottom in imminent danger, particularly if bottom is able to get to his feet repeatedly, the ref should have the discretion to put the wrestlers back in neutral with no point awarded. That would be much better than the bogus stall calls we see on bottom or top and riding time would no longer be necessary. We also need to call stalling when top is riding the hip with no interest in scoring.

So, the summary of Day 2 FS elimination round results are as follows? 57: Gilman places about as low as possible (lost to a guy, who lost to a guy, who lost to a guy in the QF, who lost to a guy in the SF) 65: JO makes the final, beating 2 Americans along the way. 74: Burroughs makes the final against Bekzod, beating Chamizo in his 2nd match

Frank should've won the match tbh. He was in deep on his patented left hand shot with a late lead and appeared he didn't have enough steam to finish it and allowed his opponent time to counter into his own TD. Then the late 4

How long have you followed NCAA wrestling? Did you watch Askren in college? Do you know it is possible to scramble on the mat? Askren didn't score all his points going feet-to-back.
  18. 1 point
Ah, right. A stupid idea, but not surprising given the source. Gable beats Fanning and Teacher with ease, although both guys would be solid qualifiers at the D1 level I think.

Kyle Snyder took second at the NCAA tournament in 2015, and then went on to win worlds just a couple months later and become a world class wrestler. Just because you win or lose at NCAAs doesn't guarantee you will succeed or fail at the next level. Look at someone like Gilman, who never won an NCAA title, but was second in the world immediately after his senior year. What I'm getting at is that just because Burroughs won worlds in 2011 doesn't guarantee that he would've beaten a 2007 Ben Askren. Similarly, there's no guarantee that a 2007 Askren beats a 2011 Burroughs.

Nolf and Nickal are amazing, but...

Who was more dominant their senior years in D1 wrestling. Burroughs or Askren. Askren had 90 some pins in college. He was more dominant on the d1 level their senior. Isn't that apples to apples there? You so badly want to compare apples to oranges.
  22. 1 point
But you can become too inflexible. I have read this debate and you are missing his point. He isn't suggesting Snyder specifically do exactly what you see in parkour competitions, just that Snyder do somethings that are not exactly dead lifts or squats or power cleans or the like. And treep is a big Ohio State fan, so he is not trashing Kyle Snyder. I can't even see what the man said that make you believe he's "trashing" Snyder. You are off base with that criticism.

Who wins in a folkstyle match, Askren his senior year or Tsargush in 2011? I take Askren by bonus.
  24. 1 point
Burroughs really is the master of tactics and in-match adjustments; unbelievable wrestling IQ. Chamizo, on the flip-side, seems to just wrestle his style whether he wins by 7 or loses by 7. That single side double was absolutely planned to get past Chamizo's sick strait leg hip defense and it was effing brilliant. I thought the ref did a great job with the hands in the face call, and opened up the match to real wrestling rather than jabs.
  25. 1 point
This is already being done. It’s called the Midlands.
  26. 1 point
    Chamizo clearly needs Parkour.

Burroughs is the next Ninja Warrior!!! He looked good. Chamizo...little slow with the feet when hoping singles came which made the single-side double for four happen.

This board never ceases to amaze. I never even mentioned PSU. I also talked about Johni Dijulius, Kyle Dake, and Conor McGregor. The post was only about other training technique. You sound incredibly defensive. Give it a rest. Geez.

I would be very surprised if Kyle Snyder isn't already doing box jumps and various tumbling exercises. Most high school programs use these exercises these days. Like AHamilton said, just because he doesn't post them on ig, doesn't mean he's not doing them. I do like how you talked about Nickal doing a back flip and box jumps as if PSU revolutionized those techniques haha. Every team has been doing that stuff for years.

Let's use an analogy, and hopefully this will help resonate... Suppose you want to defend yourself. We all have wrestled before, and against the "average" jackhole that tries to mug you or whatever, we can each hold our own, it's just how things are. But... wouldn't it be cool to spruce up your "game" by trying some other "stuff"... some other techniques... oh, I dunno, like Jiu Jitsu or something? Yeah... so when you walk down the street, you have a.) wrestling background to help you keep your own, but now b.) Jiu Jitsu training for if the guy throws stuff at you that you hadn't seen before. Now you can defend yourself from different attacks that you/we may not have been able to prior, with JUST a wrestling background. By Snyder training differently, using different Agility-based methods, I predict that he would become more 'well-rounded', and begin to execute his shots differently, which modifies his look... which lessens the impact of all the film study. Change isn't always bad... now go back to the Brawndo.

    Best pinning move?

**** I remember the at the Sheridan Tournament sometime early in the season, in the 1980s when Bernie Brown of Lehigh wrestled Tab Thacker of NC State. Bernie was about 215-220 but really strong. Tab was, well Tab and weighed around 425. Bernie tried to stay away to stay healthy but finally tried a single leg. Bernie later told me, "Trying to lift that leg was like trying to lift a Redwood". Later in the match Bernie was down and tried to escape. He got to his feet but Tab had him from behind and landed on Bernie's back, squashing him. Bernie was hurt but toughed it out to finish the match on the losing side of a 11-3 decision. Later it came out that Bernie suffered a hernia with the attempted escape move and squash. He ended up missing a number of matches.

Nolf and Nickal are amazing, but...

Askren was a monster when it came to scrambling, and nobody could approach the level he was at. It led to tons of pins. However, 2007 Askren (senior year at 174) would have lost decisively to 2011 Burroughs (senior year at 165). The reason is that Askren needs scrambles to be effective against the most elite wrestlers. But 2011 Burroughs would be so overwhelming and crisp from neutral that Askren wouldn’t be able to get to his funk. That was essentially Askren’s trouble with Pendleton in 2004 and 2005. Respect to Askren, of course.

I will tell the bros back in the webcasting office that we need to pack it in. wrestling needs to align themselves with TV like NBC to increase accessibility. it's the perfect strategy. For example, I remember sitting on my couch in 2016, watching NBC breathlessly update the wrestling public about Ryan Lochte urinating on a Brazilian gas station instead of showing the full historic match of Helen Maroulis defeating Saori Yoshida. It may not be perfect, but that is the type of coverage wrestling deserves, that we can all agree on.
