If you're flying into PIT make sure you have your phone taking a video when you come through the Fort Pitt Tunnel. Pittsburgh might have the greatest wow moment entering any city in the world coming from that direction. A really underrated place within walking distance to PPG is the Tap Room at the William Penn Hotel. Pub Fries are solid and they usually have a couple of local breweries on tap. Would be easy between sessions.

I would like to add an 11th suggestion for my own list. Adding a D-II program to the University of the Virgin Islands. There are 7 colleges in the deep south that are D2 and offer wrestling. It's only about a 90 minute flight from Florida, and it would be extremely easy to recruit there. Who wouldn't want to live on St. Thomas and enjoy the beach every day and not have to deal with cold weather ever? I think a lot of midwestern and east coast wrestlers would at least take a look.

    Nolf vs. Rutherford

As much as I love me some Zain, I think Dake would've taken him. Dake was a freak. He was a physical, athletic monster tougher, stronger than anybody in his weight class, plus a master of defensive wrestling and scrambling. Kyle Dake is easily my pick as the greatest 4 timer. By the time he's done he'll blow Cael's international achievements out of the water.

    Nolf vs. Rutherford

Not taking anything away from Zain as he still made the team, but overall 65KG is one of our weaker weights and JO was not there that particular year. Also, the key word there with Kennedy is "in college." Kennedy graduated in 2011 at 141 lbs. When he competed against Nolf at 70 KG it was 6 years later. Putting on 13 lbs in 6 years is pretty realistic. That is like saying someone who loses to Taylor at 86kg lost to a 157 guy in college. Taylor grew and so do other people. Overall I think it would be a heck of a match up.

Again, I'm gonna keep these on the blog so if there are any changes that need to be made (re-seeds/withdrawals/etc), then I'll only need to update 1 spot. https://wrestlestat.wordpress.com/2019/03/14/2019-ncaa-wrestling-championships-1st-round-comparisons/

    Kyle Conel to PSU

Beard is going to redshirt or he would actually be redshirting right now instead of defer enrolling and being 25 when he graduates with a 4 year degree in undergraduate studies.

You must remember the number one rule of being a wrestling fan is we must always be let down. Hopefully you enjoy Bo Nickal vs Hayden Zilmer.

    Over/under on NOLF pins?

Nolf picked up only one pin at the Big 10 tournament. Looks like he won't picking up 5 more at the Big dance. Was hoping he would make it. No matter what, hope he and Nickal both go out with Titles and Penn State does it as a team.

Thought of one more spot to recommend. In the middle of downtown, there is Sienna Mercato. It's a 3 story restaraunt and each floor has a different menu/theme. The 3rd floor is a rooftop bar which has a nice view and a great selection of beers and cocktails. That's probably my favorite bar in the city.

Maybe he genuinely wants a graduate degree, and maybe PSU has the perfect program for him.

    Kyle Conel to PSU

Kyle Conel is also a world medalist though so maybe he wanted to be in the same room as PSU's bigs to train for Worlds or the Olympics. Training with Cael, Varner, Taylor, Bo, Provisor, etc. doesn't sound so bad even if he doesn't crack the starting lineup for folkstyle..

I was the head Assistant at Central Connecticut in the early 90's, I left probably 3 or 4 years before they dropped the program. When I was there we were East Coast runner - ups and then East Coast champions. The same time I was there I think that the football team won like 3 games and the basketball team would go down the road and play UCONN and lose by 60 points. I often shake my head about the Admin. dropping there most successful athletic team..

    LOW SEED CONTEST

Surprised you didn't put Brock Mauller (#4) on your list. I have near 100% confidence that Ashnault will choke at NCAAs, plus it's kind of a weak weight class. After Mauller crushed Gfeller I started thinking Mauller a great chance to win NCAAs as a FR.

    Non Wrestling Fans

For 35 years, I earned my living as a full-time newspaper journalist and happened to be ass't sports editor of the daily newspaper in Iowa City when Gary Kurdelmeier took over as head coach. I sat in his tiny, cramped office the spring of 1971 when he told me his master plan for changing Iowa wrestling from crowds of 300 in an auxiliary gym on a Saturday afternoon to a BIG TIME Saturday night event. He was a rare visionary ....and he knew the No. 1 key was getting the media involved. For decades, I have tried to get the leaders of various wrestling groups to listen but have had little success. I created WIN magazine, the WIN Memorabilia Show, the Dan Hodge Trophy, the Dan Gable Museum and have written 17 books about wrestling, all in an effort to increase the awareness in the general public. I have had a struggle with USA Today editors for nearly 20 years and made some progress at times but when those editors moved on I had to start all over again. So now, at age 75 and worn out, I have given up on getting wrestling to grow into the mainstream. If you want to read more about how Kurdelmeier changed the atmosphere in Iowa City and other battles I had as a newspaperman to try and improve wrestling coverage, you may want to get my 2017 book entitled "A Journey: Reflections on 50 Years of Writing, Wrestling, Weightlifting and Heroes". -- Mike Chapman

This is nitpicky, but I really thought they should have released Askren's documentary on Youtube to drive interest in wrestling and Flo. There was a 1 week window there where he was all the talk in MMA. I feel like they missed an opportunity to bring over crossover attention by not doing something like that. Oh well, I don't actually know much.

    Chance's Chances

He was in complete control through the first period (up 4-2 I believe with 2 takedowns). Then either he chose down or Wick chose top and Wick cradled him up and pinned him. This was before everyone realized that Wick had that kind of cradling ability. I think Chance is a tough match up for Wick, assuming Chance can prevent from being cradled which most of the top 15 guys at 165 seem to have figured out. I also think he could be a tough match up for Marinelli, especially if he can get to his left side underhook consistently. That would completely shut down Marinelli's offense if he can get to it and also open up some scoring opportunities. Was Imar able to get to his underhook against Marinelli last year? I can't remember.

    Nolf vs. Rutherford

Sorry guys, gotta row the other way on this one. I think Zain would've caught up to Nolf in regulation and beaten him in OT. Love me some Nolf and consider him a top 10 worth all timer, but Zain was a monster. Nolf is just a monster...ugh. Wolfman vs Frankenstein type thing here, but going with Frankenstein.

It’s a tourist draw for a reason, because it is a strange and unique sandwich. There is no shame in a primanti pastrami.
