kind of a tangent but anyone else think an anonymous message board post is odd way to call someone a coward and a hypocrite?

A lot of these coaches are scoundrels, they want to win at any cost. They will cross lines even if it is not what is acceptable. Even the ones who play the religious card. They get paid to win. If that means poaching kids from lesser programs or not telling the truth to recruits, well that is how it goes. Don’t ever think it is about the student athlete.

    Who will Maryland hire?

I would have to probably guess the following list has interviewed thus far + a few names above and 1 to 2 other head coaches. Just a feeling. Moore, Kolat, Perry, Clemson, Pritzloff, Hughes, Jaggers, Gray and Leen

Can you elaborate on the major violations committed by tOSU, Iowa, Wisconsin, and PSU? And be very specific. If you won't then you are no less a coward than anyone at Flo. Unless, of course, you are worried you will lose access to these programs.

Bye to Finals X Greatly Diminishes US Open

Returning medal winners should have a bye to the US Open Finals, not to Finals X. If medal winner gets beat at Open, no-one should jump directly to Finals X. US Open would be such a bigger event if it was done this way. Really dumb of USA Wrestling to do it this way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Word is that he wants to leverage it into everything but his own salary. As in Scholarships, facility, staff $$ (coaches/staff under him that is) Dude should be sought after by any major program that needs a rebuild, he's great. Hope he stays at LHU.

    Wrestling Pictures in SI

I dropped SI 100 years ago, when they only had maybe 1 picture in after NCAA's and a short article, maybe a "Faces in the crowd" once and awhile and to this day only 1 wrestler ever on the cover. What a waste!!!! In addition, they take up a photographers spot on the floor/at matside for finals....to me, it's like a paid vacation for the photographer...they hardly use any of his photos anyways.

    Who will Maryland hire?

He can't sustain success he can only take a bad program and make them respectable. His philosophy of we don't teach technique we teach toughness doesn't work anymore.Youve the teach technique and have familiarity in all positions you can't just be a neutral hand fighting team that can't get away. Also he's had 12 assistants in 6 years at Buffalo.Imagine it was all 12 assistants fault at least that's the story you will hear.

    Who will Maryland hire?

Here's a question for you guys who know way more than I do. McCoy had decent success when Maryland was in the ACC and even this year they handled an up-and-coming George Mason program relatively easily and also defeated Rider. Do you think had they stayed in the ACC the program would have done a lot better? I mean obviously the competition would not have been as strong so would they have continued on their previous path or do you think they were destined to eventually drop off there as well? I realize it's a moot point and they have to compete against Big 10 teams and with their resources should have gotten better but I just thought it was an interesting thought.

They won’t break the story. But if a story ever did break about the “B1G recruiting violations,” I’m sure they’d make a profit by offering the “real” story if you have a premium account.
  27. 1 point
It would be cool if there were enough people on this forum to give us the top 3 in each state across the US. Even if they’re not from the state it’s at the very least interesting to look through Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ok, I see what your saying. But by that logic Millhof>Burroughs before the tourney, and equal after. If you truly believe that, we will never agree. Also 149 would have 2 AAs in Patacsil, 2 from Hall, 2 from Lang, 1-2 from Bryce Sadoris( I dont remember how many AAs he got). So 125 still may not catch that.

I’m not trying to fight the guy, just discuss a wrestling related topic. I just think the Flo guys are cowardly and hypocritical in a lot of ways. He was already called out on Twitter which was the medium used. I’d be happy to call him out about it in person too.

  31. 1 point
Fair enough--the flo guys needlessly step in it all the time on twitter, and are extraordinarily thin-skinned. I just wanted to make the point that we shouldn't expect them to police recruiting violations simply because they're the most public members of the wrestling media community.
  32. 1 point
When Flo “reported” on cheating at the 2016 Olympics, their only proof was , “what are the odds these refs would be assigned to these mats.” That’s not enough evidence for an actual journalist to report on. To make that claim, documents or sources are needed. I doubt they have any actual evidence about recruiting either-just more insinuation. I happen to believe the insinuation in both of these instances, but to report it you need evidence.

Formulas of any kind that are known ahead of time will lead to coaches catering to the formula and then quitting as soon as they get ahead. And the only answer inside the formula is to make the end of season tournament worth more. But in wrestling that is extremely counter productive due to wildly disparate conference strengths. There is no formula that will fix current problems. We can accept current problems that come from use of a formula, we can go back to no formula and send 10 guys into a room to decide seeds, or we can create qualifiers and a matrix. All have merits and all have problems.

A lot to unpack here: 1. competitive balance is important but people love dynasties. Look at the impact Iowa's dynasty continues to have even on this message board. Dynasties ARE the sport. PSU is wrestling, as OSU and Iowa have been wrestling in the past. If you think a big 10 program is going to get dropped, you are stupid. Michigan State won't ever drop - they are at the bottom nearly every year. Maryland just showed that they won't drop - they are hiring another 150K a year coach. You are either a troll or just plain stupid if you think results have anything to do at all with a program dropping. 2. What rule is being discussed, specifically? 3. "The best thing for the sport is to not have teams with high quality depth" is one of the most insane things I've read on a forum. Congratulations, you are crocked. You must not have wrestled in college, because if you had you'd know what the injury rates are, and you'd know what % of wrestlers finish their careers. Its not high. The best thing for the sport is our best guys getting the best workout partners. A rising tide raises all ships. World and Olympic medals are generated because of good workout rooms in college and that brings attention and media and new athletes to the sport in droves. You must be a homer for a program that just can't compete with greatness. Its okay, being a champ isn't for everyone.

because there are 80 D1 teams and this kind of stuff will get programs dropped, people fired, and kids ineligible. Who wins if they snitch? I can't think of anyone. Flo would lose its market and access. Wrestling would lose scholarships. Kudos to the ethical people at Flo keeping it to themselves; they probably should not have even brought it up.

So you are saying that reporting a recruiting violation will do more good than bad in wrestling? You sir, are a dumb ass. Wrestling is the lowest priority sport for nearly every D1 school with wrestling. You know why mediocre coaches get to stay at their job for 30+ years? Because they don't cause problems for the athletic departments. Thats why. Lets play out what happens with your snitching attitude: 1) Violation is reported to NCAA or Athletic Department 2) Athletic Directors at the school investigate 3) NCAA investigates 4) Something is found/nothing is found 5) Coach is fired a year later, so the department can go in a different direction. Turns out that direction is dropping wrestling because these weird troll freaks put our NCAA status in ALL SPORTS at risk - IDIDOT: When football and basketball programs start hearing about the wrestling program, its a problem. Wake up - we only matter to us. If you are serious about the long term success of wrestling, we need to add womens wrestling as a D1 sport. Until then, we need to be out of sight out of mind except for VERY positive things. Period. I contend that you are a true dumbass.
