You are the one who brought politics into it. Nobody was going to jump into a political discussion until you started. Also, "anti-white" lol. Do you need a safe space bud? People like you are the most sensitive, paranoid, and victim-hood seeking people in this fine country. Always have to have a bogeyman to blame for their unfulfilling lives. Used to be Obama, now it's AOC coming to steal all our cows. I wish you could see how insane you look when you post that stuff. Might as well put a tinfoil hat on at this point.

Noticed a couple things: John Smith looked 22. Man, has time passed by. The wrestlers look ginormous for their weight. They had a one weigh in rule at the time? That's insane. I imagine these guys were 15-20 lbs over on Saturday. Mike Mena should have chose down. It was better when they gave the guys some time to get a breath before they did their interview, but way worse that they had commercial breaks in the middle of the matches. There seems to be more action, and yet stalling calls came quicker. I'm not convinced there is a huge technical disparity between then and now. Out of bounds rules have changed our sport for the better.

So after our first day of competition we picked up a pretty darn good amount of medals. Adam Coon, RaVaughn Perkins, Max Nowry, all brought home titles, and Hancock, Coleman, and Mango all earned Silvers. Hopefully this trend will continue throughout this tournament.

Dude, you were way more overtly political than he was. Does he bring politics in often or does he sometimes post non-political opinions that you assume liberals hold and you bridge the gap from there? If you don't want the board to be political, stop jumping into a rant of right wing talking points every time he posts something like "veganism is good." If you really can't control your emotions enough to ignore a political comment you don't agree with then maybe you should log off for a few days and take a walk outside to get some perspective. I see thinly-veiled right wing talking points on here all the time, but I don't immediately launch into an unhinged rant because I saw something I disagree with. I simply scroll to the next post or topic. Super easy.

You should get a 1 month ban for using a freestyle leg lace situation to call a loss embarrassing on a college wrestling board. The score was essentially tied until the takedown that led to the leg lace(1 point was added for a dumb challenge). Also, you realize that Verk is a world level freestyler? Do you want to make a side bet if Sasso and Verk meet up in folkstyle?

I have no idea what to take away from yesterday other than Coon is still really good at pinning people in Greco. It’s weird because while he had his fair share of college pins, he rarely did it to the best guys and now he is pinning world ranked guys. His style is perfect to Greco apparently. Also super pumped that he is going to the US Open for freestyle. Why not? He will probably win the Open. Hope he goes for both world teams again.

Not sure one can say it definitely happened. A lot of people don't seem to understand that a butt drag is good position here. People aren't just going there to "oil check". Going over the hip opens up rolls and puts one in danger. Scooting with the butt drag always one to run a leg down and stay in good position. There's also no camera angle showing the position, and Soares (the official), is in position looking right at it as the butt drag starts and doesn't stop the action. Soares has made a history of controversial calls in Rhode Island and the large majority of the New England wrestling community felt this was a terrible call. There's no history of any cheap behavior from Brown and he has never been DQ'd in his life. The true benefactor of the DQ was a wrestler Soares coaches in RI who had never beaten Brown, who then made the New England final. This all happened months ago, so I am not sure why it's coming up again. All butt drags aren't oil checks folks, and just because someone goes to that region does not mean they're checking oil or purposefully doing so. There are people that have done that, but I think everyone thinks it happens way more than it actually does

    Logan Stieber retiring

On the question of the tone of the comments about Stieber's retirement, I think there are two related questions. First, is it ok to mention as part of the recollection of his career that there was some controversy. Yes, I think so -- specifically, the Oliver final. That is one of the best remembered finals of the decade, largely because of the controversial ending. If that is discussed in a non-meanspirited way as part of the remembrance of this great champion, that is to be expected. The call was very memorable; I think that many, probably most, thought it was wrong, and it was quite consequential -- if it went the other way, then Oliver and Stieber are both 3x champs. I don't agree that mentioning the Oliver match and the way it ended -- in an on-line discussion and opinion forum mostly frequented by people who love to think, talk about, and debate the sport -- is inappropriate. Same goes for a measured analysis of his world champion freestyle career and the state of its prospects when he retired. Second, what do we think of some of the posts and should people consider some of the comments in bad taste. Taking gratuitous or mean-spirited shots at someone who accomplished so much; who was the linchpin of elevating a great wrestling state's flagship school to the national championship and to a status just behind a program on a historically great run and above the two great traditional powers in the sport; and who always comported himself as a ferocious competitor with a humble and gracious demeanor does not demonstrate a love for the sport and/or the respect earned by a great champion at his retirement. I didn't see very much of that in the comments on this thread, or at least not enough that I viewed this as an example of a disastrous trend in the wrestling community. Instead, I think that the comments here were generally complimentary and respectful, including when posters analyzed the complexities of his career. What probably bothered me more was the title of another thread (two controversial titles), both generally because of its negativity (I really don't see the point of centering a discussion around what amounts to an attempt to downgrade this admirable guy's status in the sport) and specifically because its wording, whether intentional or not, implies that the Ramos win was generally viewed as controversial (I think a pretty substantial minority felt that way, for multiple reasons).

when I say he was a huge 177 I mean like how in the hell does that guy weigh 177? if people think Weldon looked like he weighed 197 then I say Clark looked like he weighed 210. huge for weight in my thinking is not always jacked. Gene Mills was huge for 118. Kendall Cross was a huge 125.5 in freestyle and so on.

but he's talking about Whitmer who was maybe, just maybe 5 even. Weldon looks huge as well but wasn't real tall. In reality his opponent was probably 'bigger for the weight' Clark was a huge 177. iirc Weldon started out as a 158.

Is flo going to be ready for BTS

The hatred of Flo by the Wrestling community is not caused exclusively by their technical incompetence. Here is a more complete list: 1. Technical incompetence 2. Horrible Customer Service 3. Arrogance of (several of their) hosts and management toward their customers/followers 4. Masquerading as journalists when really they are pitch men 5. Overt PC attitude -- esp as it relates to WFS. 6. Pricing model etc etc etc

I think it is because there hasn't been a software developer at Flo for over a year. When they pared down the site to its current form, there was obviously a massive layoff.

It's not Flo's responsibility to grow wrestling, BUT the more people involved with the sport it is obviously better for them. They will promote events that are streamed by them because that is what will make them money. I think a $10-20 one time fee for an event would be a smart move, then they can spam them with the next big events and sucker them in for more one-time fees. I'd much rather nickel and dime someone that thinks they are getting a good deal than try to get it all at once. But alas, I am not their business manager, just a former Presidential candidate.

I think his height makes it very hard for him to move up in weight and be effective. And age and new weight classes and rules makes it very hard for him to move down. He's already a world champ and an all-time great, so hanging around and cutting weight without a great chance to add to your hardware seems not worth it. Basically he has nothing left to prove and it seems like a perfect time to retire.

I am not ripping on Flo. I have supported them on this site and am well aware of what they have done for wrestling already. I don't necessarily see it as their responsibility to grow the sport, but anything that is good for wrestling is good for Flo. Maybe its myopic, but if I am flo and see this continual growing fan base in MMA, I would certainly want as much of a chunk of that fan base as possible for growth. I'm sure shareholders would agree. Lowering price or changing price to gain a larger market is a pretty common strategy. I personally have no stock in it, because I already have a membership. I just wonder if this is an opportunity here.

    Logan Stieber for Head Coach?

Head coach and assistant (room) coach roles are vastly different. Not everyone is cut out to be a head coach. Not everyone makes a great assistant coach. Although Logan does not strike me as a head coach, I'd be shocked if he fell flat attempting it. This guy is a winner - at all levels. But, as indicated above, he does not appear to be heading in the direction of coaching an NCAA team. My guess is that his wrestling academy will be the best in the area, state, and possibly region. Which means the M2 Training Facility (run by David Taylor) and Logan's training facility will have a dual meet within the next three years.

    Logan Stieber for Head Coach?

I get you have not started a thread in the last 30 minutes so you had to throw it out there but I am going to be serious for a minute. Not that I always am nut this time I choose to be with the right to alter that choice under the unwritten internet rule 3482. Personally I think a guy like him would be best for the sport at the high school level. Sure he's got a name and could most likely recruit and develop guys but he would do more for the sport as a whole at a lower level. In fact a lot of guys would be serving our sport better at the HS level.

We've had a lot of great wrestlers in the past ~10 years, but very few are willing to just let it fly like Stieber--a complete offensive powerhouse. Add on to that how humble he is, and just being an all-around good dude. Impossible not to root for him. I think the couple of years he spent down at 61kg were seriously draining on him, both mentally and physically, and probably took a lot of joy out of the sport for him. Glad he's moving on on his own terms. I don't think being a college head coach really suits his personality, and I'm not sure he would even want to be one, but I do think he could be a great Olympic coach or assistant if he wants.

this ref definitely "inserted himself" (pardon the phrasing) a little too much in this match. the first call for headbutting was utter bull****. the penalty for suggesting a stalling call, questionable at best. had the ref officiated as aggressively towards the red wrestler as he had the green, there undoubtedly would have been a stalling call. but his hostile attitude towards the coach at the table, indicating his own level of agitation, reveals a personality unfit for officiating, in my opinion. much too invested. casts additional doubt over all his questionable calls.

Per flo: "Upon graduation, Stieber promptly made the 2016 world team at 61 kg and won gold in a stacked world championship bracket." Not attempting to diminish any of Stieber's accomplishments, but wasn't 2016 an Olympic year and most of the studs we're either cutting or bulking to compete in an Olympic weight class? Was it still stacked? I took a look at the bracket and I don't really recognize any of the names outside of Chakaev.

This happened a few weeks/months ago. If I recall correctly, the ref is a club coach in the area, and a kid on his club team would've eventually met up with the winner of this match. The kid who was dq'd in this match was the favorite to win the whole thing. I wan't there and can't say with 100% certainty that this is what happened, but everything on social media pointed to this being the case.

I don't think that is applicable to this case. It would be if Garrett had won a medal and then gotten hurt afterwards. As it stands, Garrett made the team, so he has an invite to WTT, but Colon, as the world medalist, is the only one who would be entitled to a wrestle off.

Why I think Penn State is about to decline

Once again, no one can have a negative opinion about PSU without TBar calling him them a troll. Instead of calling in a Troll why don't you enlighten us on why you think he is wrong because all of his points, are pretty spot on. 1) for sure is spot on, two of the best wrestlers in the history of the sport are no longer in PSU's lineup. 2) 125 has been and will continue to be an issue for PSU 3) a little bit of a question mark but you can't deny that he is correct at this time, RBY needs to work a lot more work and probably would benefit from a RS because if his best move is to stall most of the match with one hand behind his back, then there will be issues there. 4) Prove him wrong, Nick Lee has peaked and the stats certainly tell that story 5) Verk couldn't even crack the lineup and Berge was sucking wind for most of the year 6) Here is where I differ a little because as long as Joseph is in the lineup, he has a shot. Now with that being said, he is 0-2 against the Bull and 0-1 against Lewis (I guess I am not sure if they wrestled previously) and none of those matches where even close. 7) I also think Brooks and Beard are studs but they are not in the lineup AND unproven. Ask Fix and Steveson what happens to unproven Freshmen. 8) He is spot on again So just because you are butt hurt you have to call someone a troll? He is pretty spot on with his run down.
