Opening wrestling clubs seems to be trending and I bet lucrative, especially when you’re the King. One of his gripes about coaching college was the recruiting process. Which he obviously wouldn’t have to deal with in a wrestling club. I wouldn’t be surprised if he and his wife collaborated on a few things also. I believe he designed the camo shark singlet that was well received at Final X. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’d rather be a 4x champ than a senior team member.

If Ke-Shawn gets to 141 he will be a legitimate contender. His only gas tank issue is lugging around guys 8 lbs. of muscle heavier. He is technically solid. He didn’t have any gas tank issues against Micah, who barely beat him in 2 close wrestle offs then finished 2nd in the country. Nick Lee is a very good wrestler but I think KH beats him. housebuy did a great job of outlining his issues.

    JB

I have been seeing a lot of input doubting that JB makes the Olympic squad next year. I'm not so sure. I think he will, Dake or no Dake. I think it will be too much weight to lose for Dake now that he has gone up and became a world Champ on his own. But i think it will be JB's last year on the team. I think he will hang it up after that. Any thoughts? mspart

Hayes has had an unfortunate string of events. A top 10ish recruit out of high school, he hasn’t quite performed to the level tOSU fans had hoped, by a title this year would remedy that. 2016 His redshirt year he went 29-1 with multiple wins over future qualifiers and AAs. His only loss was to Kolodzik, who he also majored. He bonuses 2/3rds of his matches 2017 Wrestling at his optimal weight of 141, Hayes was 5-1 (loss to Kevin Jack) when he was severely injured. He was out for the rest of the season. 2018 Due to lineup needs, Hayes wrestled at 149. He went into NCAAs as the #5 seed. He took a loss to Troy Heilmann and then ran into Sorensen on the backside (I think? Trying to do this from memory). 2019 Hayes ends up at 157 due to tOSU having title contenders (and finalists!) at both 141 and 149. Honestly it’s pretty crazy that a 141 could go 157 and pick up some wins at NCAAs. 2020 Hayes will likely battle it out for the 141 slot. They have Sasso at 149. They also have Kinner at 141, who had a solid redshirt year last year. I expect that Hayes will win this wrestleoff. 141 itself is far weaker than last year between graduations and Olympic shirts. Contenders: Dom Demas (4th 2019) Nick Lee (5th 2019) Kaid Brock (2 time 5th, 2017 and 2018) Chad Red (2 time AA, 2018 and 2019) Mitch McKee (1 time AA, 2019) Grant Leeth (1 time 6th at 149, 2018) Tariq Wilson (1 time 3rd at 133 in 2018) Hayes is right in the mix with these guys, especially given his top game. It would be exciting to watch him close out his career in top

    European Games

I didn't see a thread on it, so here you go. Finals Matchups 57kg) Stevan MICIC (SRB) vs. Mahir AMIRASLANOV (AZE) 74kg) Zaurbek SIDAKOV (RUS) vs. Soner DEMIRTAS (TUR) 86kg) Ali SHABANAU (BLR) vs. Dauren KURUGLIEV (RUS) 125kg) Givi MATCHARASHVILI (GEO) vs. Anzor KHIZRIEV (RUS) 74, 86, and 125 all went pretty chalk. 57kg went off the rails a bit with world #1 and world #2 going down. This whole weight internationally is seriously up in the air. Any number of guys could make the finals or even win it on the right day, including Micic and maybe even Fix. Micic is in the finals with wins over Lomtadze, Atli, and Markovich. All ranked guys--terrific showing from him so far, he's just sporting the wrong red white and blue singlet. Also FYI, no Chamizo at 74kg. Injury, doesn't sound too serious though.

    JB

I assume he'll continue to get some income from Asics, to the extent people keep buying his shoes. Not sure what other endorsements he has and how long they'd last. I'm sure he could become a D1 coach, an RTC coach, a wrestling academy owner, or a wrestling coach at an MMA gym. He could also pursue a career outside of wrestling. He'd have a good start on that, given his college degree, his social-media presence, and his public-speaking skills.

    Beach Wrestling advice?

Will do, but I have to tell you there's almost nothing that I have found online. There are a few YouTube videos reviewing the rules and regulations but the particular tournament we are entering is using different rules. I haven't found anything (yet) on any kinds of tips or strategies. At the level of this competition, at least, the organizer made it clear to me that it's much more about getting kids out and having fun than any kind of heavy duty competition, so I'm gonna roll with it.

Why do you think Dake is better? I’m pretty sure JB is 7-1 against Dake.

    JB

I agree with @lu_alum and think it will be hard to beat JB if he is sitting in the finals fresh, and i do believe that he is placing this year. I am very interested to see how Dake bounces back after this injury, and on top of that... also becoming a father. I got my money on JB until he leaves his shoes in the center of the mat, if he is still lacing them up and competing, then i know he still got it in him to win.

    JB

IMO, It hinges on whether JB medals at worlds, which would give him a bye to the final in the trials. Trials won’t be using a Final X format, so Dake (or anyone else) will have to go through the challenge tourney just to get to a fresh JB. If he doesn’t medal at worlds, I don’t think JB beats Dake in a “fair” trials process. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Mt Rushmore for your state

Texas would have a pretty good one from the last 20 years considering we aren't great at wrestling. Slay, Dlagnev, Lawal, Nickal. There is little depth if we tried for even 6 or 8 names but that's a pretty good 4.

I don't believe it's the responsibility or purpose of high school athletic associations to facilitate the advancement of kids to get better. They provide the opportunity to compete. It's up to the individual teams and the outside clubs, etc., that provide the athlete additional opportunities to "get better," IMO. That might be more of a stance rooted in theory and traditionalism rather than reality, but it's not the responsibility to allow kids to "challenge themselves" by wrestling up. Wrestling, and every other sport for that matter, has opportunities outside of the state associations to focus on the advanced kids - AAU roundball has been doing it for decades. Not saying I'm right about this at all, but I there's high-level clubs for that kind of thing. I also came up into a system where eighth-graders could compete on JV, but varsity was strictly 9-12. Even if there was no middle school wrestling leagues (Virginia lacks them in most areas of the state).
