That strike has nothing to do with Askrens age. That is a one in a million shot by Masvidal.

    Dake Spain Results

Link to Mat C stream. You can rewind to all of Dake's matches so far. **Update: I missed Dake's actual 2nd match the first time skimming through. Techs Spanish wrestler 10-0 in 15 seconds with TD and four consecutive guts. FYI: he is the very first match when the live feed kicks in, start of 2nd match is right at about an hour past that (short match so more difficult to find), 3rd match is about an hour past the 2nd, 4th match is ~17 minutes before feed ends (also short match so more difficult to find).

Haha...impossible for Ringer to actually beat Dake fairly. It will be because 1. Kyle was called for too many passivities unfairly 2. Kyle was not given the proper score. 3. Kyle was injured even though they tried keeping the heavyweights away from him. 4. Kyle's doctor screwed up. 5. Kyle was screwed over by USAW. 6. Kyle should of got an attorney and sued 7.Kyle is wrestling weight higher because he keeps out wrestling Burros but refs keep screwing him 8. Kyle was more focused on dropping to 74 kg where he is the best wrestler in US. 9. The refs "misappropriated* the rules 10. The refs were out to late and had to be woke up by Koll 11. The refs were drunk. 12. Kyle was on his monthlys.

Giovanni, you’re the man. Thank you. CoschJ: agreed. Looks like he won’t be in peak form by Worlds. Sloppy by Dake standards.

That's what this all seems to get down to ..... when an injured wrestler tries to get back to wrestling shape and get ready for the wrestle off, what is he allowed to do. Seems like some do not want live matches. If you are ok with live matches, it is irrelevant if it is in a competition or at OTC or at own room, or in the next state over. Dake can treat every single one of these matches as the same way and what it is meant for .......... matches to get back to form. No one has been able to explain why a match in Spain is giving Dake an unfair advantage vs a match at the OTC or in Ithaca. Still waiting to hear that.

What is the big friggin deal? The rule allowing for a delayed wreswtle off would make no sense unless it tookj into account both the time for healing and the time togt back in shape. Getting in shape encompasses more than aerobic fitness. The fact that he chooses to use a tourney to get him to where he needs to be (ie; competitive) should be absolutely irrelevant.

Finals should be starting in about 15 minutes, if I did my time zone calculation correctly.. not sure what mat yet. On a side note. Josh Rodrigues also made the finals at 57Kg on Mat A. First match was back and forth, held on for a 13-11 win over Tajikistani wrestler. Has been pretty dominant in every other match I watched including 11-0 tech over Germany in semis.

Match 3 against Budgey (CAN). Dake attempts a hip toss on the edge going to his own back but exposing, looked like 4 to me, but ref calls it 2&2. Dake secures a TD, follows up with four guts to end match 12-2 a minute into to the 1st. **this match was labeled "semifinal", and Orazgylyjov (TKM) wins 10-0 over Austrian in another "semifinal". So I'm assuming the top two in each round robin advanced to final four, and now Dake will have re-match against Turkmanistan for Gold (can't find actual bracket/format anywhere).

I hate to even say this, but I dont think I can get on board with MMA anymore. I have only been the most casual of fans in the first place but was starting to be a little more interested the last couple years. I respect that Masvidal made a great strategic decision, but I dont want to end up watching and applauding when someone dies in the octagon some day. I have had a hard time seeing someone celebrating in someone's face as they are blacked out after devastating blows(happens more often than just tonight). I never thought I would say this, and maybe it's me getting older but damn, I think it's too brutal for me.

    Japan playoff matches

There will be a new 50kg rep for Japan as Yuki Irie knocked off Yui Susaki(2x defending senior WC) 6-1. Susaki beat Irie last month 6-2 at All-Japan. This will be interesting because they are clearly the #1 and #2 in the world at 50kg. Irie is the only person to have beaten Susaki(3 or 4 times now). Unless some fluke happens at the World Championships, Irie is going to medal(high chance of winning) and that means that Susaki will not be or have the chance to be on the 2020 team. I'm interested to see if the Japan Wrestling Federation is really going to keep those 2020 qualification rules. Risako Kawai beat Kaori Icho 3-3 on criteria Otoguro also beat Rei Higuchi in the playoff to become of the 2019 rep at 65kg. Higuchi teched him last month.

The 2nd UFC event ever didn't have rules in place to allow the referee to stop the fight. A kickboxer named Robert Lucarelli got stomped, soccer kicked and generally bludgeoned pretty badly in his fight but unless his corner stopped it or he tapped out, the fight kept going. So his opponent, thinking he had won, turned around after knocking him out only to be told it wasn't over yet. Then he soccer kicked and elbowed him in the neck until the corner threw in the towel. After that event John McCarthy told the UFC people that if he was going to referee again he needed to be able to stop the fight because he was afraid somebody may get killed or badly hurt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMt-3iHdTtU Stuff like this was pretty common in those early fights and the UFC is probably lucky somebody wasn't badly injured.

Yeah peace. Note: the accommodation for medalist should only be Bye to Final X Not a spare car if theirs breaks down. Coupons for free meals if they can't afford their favorite restaurants. A social media campaign manager because they can't stand trolls. Etc etc. You place at Worlds, you get a pass to Final X while you rehab possible injuries Peace

    Dake Spain Results

It doesn’t matter how ugly Dakes wins look. He finds a way to win. That’s why everyone always doubted him against DT but he proved them wrong. I expect he’ll do the same against Ringer and at Worlds
  20. 1 point
I think the overall sentiment is: He knew he had a set date for a wrestle off he claimed to be too injured to compete at, in general (in most sports), if you can't compete that's the end of it you lose. Not the case here.... His injury appeared to be a little older, and he seemed to have had time to recover but then apparently he won't be able to compete (doctors orders? as some have said) until the 17th of Aug. Then he goes and competes. Everyone wants the "best team" out there (I hate how often I see that as people's main argument) But this isn't a matter of the #1 guy in the World as a rep or My Fat A$$ going out there.... It's legit closer to 1A and 1B.... Yes Gamesmanship, within the rules, etc etc... it's all fine... it's already been settled, who cares anymore. But it's simply bad form, uncouth, unpalatable, etc... He's had time, he is obviously "able" to compete... I think most people think "Any other wrestler would strap em up" Yeah yeah some of you weirdos will say, "So just because he wont, strap them up, and wrestle at a disadvantage he is somehow a bad guy?" To which I reply, "Eat a Richard, if he wasn't ready in the normal time frame, switch your damn focus to the Olympics, he's a great wrestler but it's an unnecessary kink in the process."

It’s impossible to tell with Dake. Remember the troublesome 1-0 win in the semis before beating DT for his fourth title. Many other examples. He is not a sharp as he was at Worlds but in my opinion he was taking more risks here early since the whole point of the tournament was to tune up. I don’t think he’ll take those same risks against Ringer or tougher competition and they’ll get something closer to the finals performance which I thought was pretty solid. Shutdown defense mode, only high probability attacks. Whether he’s in good enough shape to withstand Ringer’s onslaught is the question.

I would put it at something like a one in ten shot. Masvidal game planned that. Ben's strategy has never changed in MMA. Barrel his way in, eating a few shots if needed, get the guy down and smother them. He leaves him self very open when trying to get in. It is a narrow window in which to capitalize, but this is where his lack of any stand up really hurts him. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Housebuye - I'm not getting it. I get that the optics look bad but when you pause to think about it .... who cares where Dake is getting live wrestling matches. Why should it matter? Or do you feel that he cannot wrestle live until he wrestles Dieringer?

    Japan playoff matches

I don't know if Icho was back long enough. She was right there with Kawai, which is crazy after taking 2 years off and not competing. With the way Japan put in the 2020 qualification criteria- If you're on the 2019 team and medal, that guarantees your 2020 spot, we probably won't see Icho, Susaki, Okuno and a bunch of other world champs from Japan. This is why I'm wondering if they're going to do a playoff. Returning medalist has a spot in the final and then the tournament winner battles the returning medalist. It'll be interesting to see what happens by next year.

I'm wondering what the feeling would be if this was David Taylor getting a delay to face Patrick Downey. I think several people would be singing a different tune.

Dieringer is so fired up to wrestle, I am concerned that he might come out too aggressive. Dake's counter attacks are amazing and I fear that Dieringer's overzealousness will bring him down. I predict Dake in match one driven by counter attacks and great defense. Then match two, I think the pressure is on Dieringer since he lost the first match and Dake is playing on house money - only needs to win one of the next two. I see Dake winning again off of counter attacks in a low scoring 4-2 type bout.
  37. 1 point
All you nancies are fixing to feel reeeeally cute when Dake gets him in 2. Try explaining how Ringer deserved to go and fight for a world gold if he can't even beat the returning champ for a spot then. Ninny-ponce. The lot of yeh. Leave it the way it is.

  40. 1 point
Set a specific primary date that all the wrestle offs will take place at. And a specific secondary later date, to allow time for a wrestler with a legitimate injury to recover. If you cant make either date you dont wrestle for the spot that year. Either way, everyones aware of the process from the get go.
  41. 1 point
No delays. Final X dates are final. Push Final X dates closer to Worlds--perhaps a month out--to allow for as much recovery from injury as possible. If you are not well enough to compete for a spot a month before worlds, you very very likely aren't well enough to rep us at worlds.
  42. 1 point
It’s pathetic that people are trying to excuse the actions being taken by Dake’s camp.
  43. 1 point
I don't really care what Flo or the media says about the matter, and if you're objective, you probably shouldn't either, but that's beside the point. So allowing a delay is OK, and using the doctor's note that allowed for the delay to set the date of the wrestle-off is OK. But as soon as another doctor's note is produced, then the delay should be rescheduled?? That makes even less sense and would be even worse for Ringer. Imagine all the games that could be played if that were true. The injured medalist could get a doctor's note last minute that says he's ready tomorrow, and all of a sudden the non-medalist has to find a way to readjust his training cycle again and make weight tomorrow.... There is no perfect system. I don't care much about who played games and who didn't, since the ONLY way to objectively guard against that kind of thing is through rules. I'm fine with avoiding the delay too, as I've noted (frankly, I might even prefer it). But if there IS to be a delay, it makes no sense to have the wrestle-off as soon as the medalist is medically cleared to set foot on a mat (explained why above) ... and it makes even less sense, once that date is established, to RE-rechedule it based on a later doctor's note. That would give even more room to screw Ringer over, and it further convolutes a convoluted process. I think a lot of folks are letting their emotions interfere with what they think the rules should and shoulnd't allow for. I can totally understand why. Not a good look for Dake, I get it. But stop and think about what changing the process to what you suggest could do and it's an even bigger potential cluster.
  44. 1 point
What if Dake produces a doctor's note saying the wrestle off should be delayed until November. Will they delay Worlds? I think this situation needs to lead to a rule change where there is a set alternate date in case of injury. If the injured wrestler isn't ready by then, he doesn't get on the team. An honor-based system clearly doesn't work.
  45. 1 point
The point of delaying is because the medalist is not healthy enough to compete. Not to allow him to delay for conditioning issues or minor injuries. Otherwise everyone can delay the wrestle off because of minor issues. If Dake is healthy enough to compete, that's that. He should be competing for his spot on the World Team as soon as he's healthy. This was designed to give the defending medalist AN advantage, not every possible advantage in the world. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

This is the difference. JB wasn't playing games. Kyle Dake is.
  48. 1 point
What exactly did JB “milk”? It seems to me he played by the rules, including by winning the US Open in 2011 and 2017 in order to earn byes to the WTT finals. Is JB supposed to reject the qualification process to satisfy his competitors’ fans?
  49. 1 point
I feel like a dumbass here because I seem to be the only one who has no problem with this? Dude is a returning world champ. I feel like anyone who has a problem with it just knows Ringer ain't beating him at 100%...
  50. 1 point
I know a lot of people are freaking out about this, but seriously, why not let the returning gold medalist knock of the rust, so we send the best guy? I'm sure Dieringer wants the best version of Dake possible.
