The Smiths really hate losing/refs. BTW Smith stops Saitiev's West Point here. Not many people could. Edit: I think this vid gives us some indication of why Pat Smith had problems at the senior level: he was a tweener. He is noticeably smaller than Saitiev. At one point Saitiev throws Smith on his hip with just a collar tie and forward pressure.

    Missouri Questions??

Apparently the decision Leeth will go 141 was made shortly after last season. He's come down to 141 in a very gradual manner; not overnight. He's surely lost some muscle but he'll still be a monster at 141 if he isn't suffering from the cut.

    Missouri Questions??

I wonder if the added cut for leeth will increase the risk of getting hurt again. Of course, his neck brace will be much bigger equivalently at 141 compared to 149

Quite frankly you and a couple others like you. You seem like a really good guy but you and others touting yourselves as experts — you are, by the way — frequently get really thinned skinned. Once you put yourself out there, you are subject to critique. Let it go. Generally, your product is very good. JBs selective sensorship. I can ignore the goofs but they are becoming so predominant that I don’t come here daily anymore. Every two or three days is it now. Also, once a topic gets to a page and a half, it’s over.

I know this isn’t really a recommendation but I agree with AnklePicker’s guess that many AA’s probably started early. Why look at what D1 wrestlers do with their kids when you can look at the AA’s themselves? I think the emphasis seems to be on how serious the kid/parent takes it at a young age. I don’t think there would be ill effects to starting early as long as they’re moreso just doing it to have fun. I guess the flip side is you might have a 6 or 7 year old that says they “dont like it” and stops, and maybe they would like it when they get older but never sign back up because of their 6 or 7 year old opinion.

    Alleged Ohio State Disabato video

Strauss story not going away. Now reports that the state medical board had complaints about him but he went unpunished, and apparently now over 300 people suing tOSU about it. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/30/sports/ohio-state-doctor-abuse.html The Jordan piece is interesting. I agree with you Tbar, that Jordan’s position at the time should not make him a scapegoat now, but the official report from May agrees with some of the wrestlers’ earlier comments that Strauss’s behavior seemed to be fairly common knowledge among coaches, with 22 coaches confirming knowledge of “rumors and/or complaints,” and a specific mention that Strauss was particularly “infatuated” with the wrestling team, IMO making it even more likely for wrestling coaches to be aware. And speaking of Yetts, he did describe specific instances with Strauss/Jordan/Hellickson which were apparently corroborated by multiple people. The weird part is in those instances is that not only was Jordan aware, but he actually tried to do something about it, so it’s not like he ignored the allegations. I do get the fact that political opponents would use his involvement in any way to try to cause his downfall, but that doesn’t make it right for him to lie about it, which most indications are that he is doing. Disabato may not be a great human, but you have to give him credit since it seems like he’s the one that really opened the door to the investigation into Strauss. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/17/us/politics/jim-jordan-sexual-abuse-ohio-state.html

I think it’s entirely dependent on the coach. If you have a great coach with the right perspective on the sport I think you can start at virtually any age. Where I think the major problems lie in the US is in terms of competition. The competition where parents and coaches are screaming and only concerned with winning is where you lose kids to pressure and anxiety. One can start late especially if they’re athletic but they need to realize that there are a bunch of kids who have been doing it already for 5 years so they may take their lumps, but they can catch up with good coaching and some time. That all said I’d imagine if you asked the majority of NCAA all Americans when they started the average age would probably be 5-8.

If Yianni wins, should Zain hang 'em up?

Well the short answer is no, you never know maybe Zain wins everything in sight next year and becomes our Olympic Rep. And as we all know, Dake and DT, looked like they were never going to break into the line up, and look at them now. So who knows there's always injuries, and some times people just catch fire like Coleman Scott did in 2012, so maybe Zain is that guy in 2020. But I am sure that after 2020, we will see a bunch of retirements which will be kind of a bummer to see some of our guys and gals hang it up, but fortunately we will also see a bunch of young stars trying to become the next World and Olympic Champions, and that will be great. And talking about our young stars, I have really enjoyed the success that we have had on our Cadet, Junior, and Senior levels these past six or seven years or so, and I hope it continues, (forever).

Talebi 97kg guy ? he lost to Shaabani in first round of trials , I can't remember the score but it was a convincing win. if you are talking about 125kg, there is no other option, Komeil is retired, Mohebbi out of shape because of lack of training, Zare completely inexperienced in senior level (his loss in the World Juniors final was an accident but we know he can't beat senior level guys by just being though and pushing them consistently) right now, winning only 1 quota is my honest prediction . but I guess someone else will get lucky with the draw. so maybe 2.

One point of etiquette, saying "will never beat so and so again" is what you say after someone beats someone for the first time after a series of loses, not about people who are 1-1. The topic pisses me off because its a cowardly prediction masked as a bold proclamation.

    Question for Iowa fans.

tOSU would have won the title anyway that year. Don't act like they only won because Cael let them. They would have won, Cael knew it and decided to look at the future.
