Best wrestler to never make the Olympics?

Lee Kemp is the American with the most world titles without wrestling at the Olympics. There are two Soviets who had the same number or more titles without wrestling at the Olympics. Aslan Khadartsev won three world titles in 1983 and 1986 at 100kg and in 1987 at 100+kg. He also competed at worlds in 1989 and got bronze at 100+kg. Three world titles and a bronze is the exact same results at Kemp. He obviously missed out on the 1984 games because of the boycott. Not 100% sure if he would have been the guy at 100kg in 1984 because the next year Leri Khabelov won worlds at 100kg for the Soviets, his first of 6 world/olympic titles. Khadartsev was the Soviet rep at the Friendship games in 1984 and won the title at 100kg, though I have no knowledge on how that team was selected. In 1988 the Soviets sent Khabelov at 100kg and Gobezhishvili at 130kg both won gold. Both also represented the unified team in 1992 and won medals. Salman Khasimikov won four world titles for the Soviets at 100+kg in 1979, 1981, 1982, 1983. Soslan Andiyev represented the Soviets at the 1980 games and won gold. This was the 6th of his 6 world/Olympic titles. In 1984 Khasimikov obviously didn't wrestle in the Olympics due to the boycott. He also wasn't the Soviet's rep at the 1984 Friendship games that honor went to Malkhaz Mermanishvili who won them. In 1985 Gobezhishvili was the Soviet rep at 100+kg and won worlds and as stated earlier Gobezhishvili was the rep at 130kg in 1988 and 1992. I imagine now it is more likely to get a 4 time world champ and that doesn't the Olympics. In the past the 80s there were 10 weights at both the world and the Olympics so if you were the best in the world 4 years then there had to be an Olympic games somewhere in the middle of those 4 years and you probably got to go. In all three instances where someone won 3 or more a boycott played some roll. This will probably be more common now that there are 6 weights at the Olympics and 10 at Worlds. Since non-Olympic weights started in 2014 there have been two wrestlers who won 2 world titles at non-olympic weights and not yet made an Olympics - Kyle Dake and Magomedrasul Gazimagomedov.

What does an athlete make at a RTC?

Most if not all RTC's are non-profit. The money comes from donors typically associated with the program. The benefit is having post-graduate wrestlers training with current college wrestler (which is legal per NCAA waivers).

Flo Wrestling is good/bad for wrestling

Pros: -Documentary's are as good as 30 for 30. -Terrific event coverage. -Technique library. -Enjoy some of the personalities (Bader, MikeMal) -No where else to get what they give. Cons: -Horrible streaming. The kicker is they are aware and havent fixed the problem. I remember when they got the $27mm "investment" (I assume it was private equity), I thought they would pour that into tech...apparently they poured that into a branding consultant. -Bad customer service. Yes, I have an annual membership and will keep it for as long as I can imagine. They certainly grow the sport. Now, when can we start the trackwrestling thread? That may be the worst organization/service on earth.

Flo Wrestling is good/bad for wrestling

Does anyone else think it's dumb that you need to sign in before even seeing the official pricing? It's still $30/month for the monthly option though so even for most of the wrestling season you're looking at $120 anyway. At that point you're likely better off going for the yearly. Actually, I checked a few and apparently FloFootball is $20 for some reason. Note FloGrappling also has no monthly option (which I guess is proof of grappling's popularity?) BTW, note to Flo guys, when you use the "continue with Facebook" option, it still has the old logo.

That is such a cop out response. If your utopian dream really existed anywhere on this planet and could be transferable to other places then you'd name that place. You can't. You are just another pie in the sky dreamer with no solutions. Btw, Bernie had his chest pains and got surgery the next morning. In Canada the average wait time for that surgery is 6 months. 14 people have dropped dead in Ontario alone this year while waiting for the surgery Bernie got in less than 12 hours. Ask their surviving loved ones how nationalized health care worked out for them.

I think Conel is way over ranked everywhere. He had one great weekend at the end of a season where he had 12 losses and didn't win the MAC. Then he missed a whole year due to injury. He should have to prove if he's the 3rd place guy or the 12 loss guy before he gets too much credit for this season.

This is such a childish response. Instead of just offering a rebuttal you try to discredit me as a know-it-all. You see Tbar, i am offering you my opinion. I am putting it out there for you to pick apart. Go for it, but try to be mature and not get offended when I dont agree with the points you have made. Once again, you seem to think that by labeling a country "socialist" its all or nothing. The moment that we move to universal health care does not make it manadatory that we put everything under government control. So if I say I want a health care system like Germany, that doesnt mean that we become Germany on every issue. You see how you are relying on generalizations to make your arguement? I just want my government to help handle problems for its people when the markets will not. Healthcare is clearly a problem. You are arguing that we should not fix problems and we should all be grateful because of socialism is bad. Protect the wealthy at all costs I guess.

I think your understanding of our free market economy and our tax laws is lacking. But before I even address that, there are a lot of reasons for income inequality. Additionally, taking from one group to give to another has limited effectiveness. As for wealthy people, why do you Bernie lovers envy them? Why do you vilify them? In sum they employ millions while paying the vast super majority of our tax revenues. They pay the super majority of state and municipal taxes as well. They are limited in the options for their wealth. They can put it in a bank where it gets loaned out to the bank's depositors. They can invest it where it gets put to work employing people and creating goods and services that people need and desire. They can buy things. Things made by others keeping their jobs intact. Finally, when they die their estates are taxed up to 40 percent. That tax rate number was once much higher. Why are you he'll bent to destroy the productive people? Let me give you just one example of why socialist ideas stink. The USA has 7 tax tiers for Federal Income Tax. If you make $12,000 and you file as a single filer you are barely into Tier 2 of 7. With a standard deduction you will basically pay no Federal tax. Argentina went communist/socialist almost 90 years ago. They too have a tiered tax system. They have 9 tiers. Wanna hazard a guess where you'd be in their system if you earn $12,000? They would consider you to be rich and you would be in their highest income tax tier. The same income that is considered low in a free country is considered high in an oppressed socialist country. Never mind their high provincial, social security, excise and VAT taxes that cripple their economy to the point they consistently default on their debt obligations. Thanks, but no thanks. That system, bernie's system, it stinks.

That's a very good idea and the only thing I have to say about it, and this is not a shot at them, is Penn State doesn't wrestle a lot of matches anyway. I mean they don't always even go to a multi-day tournament every year so he won't get a ton of matches if he's the starter anyway I wouldn't think.

Listen, I know Joe. I like Joe. But the man isn't playing with a full deck, and more importantly has been at the heart of every disastrous policy decision made by the democratic party in the past 40 years. What we need right now is a democratic party willing to show some guts and stand up for what is right and stand up for working people. And this is why I'm happy to announce that on my first day in office I will sign a bipartisan measure to strap Joe Biden and Ted Cruz to a cartoonish rocket, Johnny Knoxville style, and then fire that rocket directly into the sun. I'm Senator Bernard Sanders and I approve this message.

unhinged. "atheism" isn't taught in school. evolution is not atheism. it's a scientific explanation of a natural phenomena that has nothing to do with the origins of life on earth or whether god exists. all it does is explain how species change over time. there are plenty of christians that accept its reality. evolution stands at the foundation of modern medicine which is why it is, and should be, taught in science class. do you want future doctors to not understand the science behind the medicine and technology they use? should kids be shielded from perhaps the most famous scientific discovery in human history so that their parents' feelings aren't hurt? sounds like you need a safe space. do you seriously believe christians are persecuted in this country? almost every legislator in this country is a professed christian. every president in history has been a christian other than our current one maybe. i'm genuinely curious. who do you feel is attacking you and what are those attacks? starbucks not putting santa on their holiday cups? just the phrase "happy holidays?" as a christian, i'm constantly confused when other christians claim to be under attack.

This is clearly a person who has never been sick and needed to take medicine. You'd have to figure people here would have respect for pharma between lamisil, Valtrex, etc. A flu shot might have saved Logan Stieber from that loss to Retherford his senior year. Prescription meds go through clinical trials and are made by US or European companies. Their contents are highly regulated/controlled and contamination is rare and a huge issue whenever it does happen. China has never developed a drug. Supplements you are right.

I disagree to an extent. I definitely don't think Snyder is putting the blame on anyone, other than himself. Leaving Ohio doesn't mean he is not looking inward. I don't think he looks at his situation at Ohio and says they can't develop me. I don't think it is about Cox and I don't think it is about money. Gwiz is going to Germany for a couple months and so is ringer. They are doing it to improve, and maybe for a little money. The guys it didn't work out for was for different reasons. Ramos left because of the fallout at Iowa. Not because he wanted a better training situation. Molinaro had Zain to deal with. Oliver went to Cornell and he did improve. Unfortunately for him so did Yianni at the same club. Ruth had Taylor deal with in the same club. Other than Oliver, the rest left because they were competing against the person in that room and they were the number 2. J,Den went to the OTC and got gold 2x. Downey made final X which was a surprise to me. Then he got his shot. Graff had been trying for the team for years, then makes it this year after heading to Jersey. In the end though everyone has their own perapective and take on it.

You know I have to respect how true Snyder stays to doing what is best for him. He should be selfish, as should any of our guys who want to be world and Olympic champs. I bet you guys like Tervel are disappointed and likely a little annoyed. They may even disagree with his decision even though his results have been slipping, but I bet you they respect it. snyder went about it the right way.

I'm pretty positive Snyder thinks about things in a completely different way than your takes. 1. He's not worried about school pride, he wants to get better by wrestling better practice partners everyday-not just 1 or 2 top guys brought in once a year. This shouldn't surprise us considering he skipped his last year of high school to train at the OTC. 2. Coaching style/technique does make a difference. He's been with Tervel for many years now-makes them best friends and close but also gives him limited perspective on technique and training that could help him. Also, he's really close to Brandon Slay-the move puts him only a few hours from him at UPenn. 3. Family is important to him. He and his wife (not girlfriend) are both from Maryland-the move puts him much closer to home.
