Wrestling loves to romanticize the idea of the all technique, no strength wrestler who takes the muscle bound wrestler and beats the crap out of him using an arsenal of maneuvers, strategy and experience. Yet this Utopian idea is nothing more than fantasy. Even if one can be successful without some sort of strength training, the fact remains that they'll be MORE success with it. It may not look the same for everyone. In fact, I know it doesn't. I've witnessed both Iowa's lifting regiment and Minnesota's. They're nothing alike, at all. Yet both Hawkeye wrestlers and Golden Gopher wrestlers are very strong. I imagine every collegiate program in the country has some sort of a lifting regiment. I'd be shocked to learn of one that didn't.

    Wrestling regions in each country

I disagree with your findings. With all other opportunities unrelated to natural attributes being maximized, certain traits relating to human population regions or areas of the world frequently dominate at the highest levels of sports. Pick a sport and you can usually find a particular set of people mostly dominate with only a few outliers.

    Cox is the best

For those making a "dominant" scoring claim for the difference in DT and Dake, it is completely insignificant in this case. Dake does not often have big score separations. He also doesn't often lose. I love watching DT, and maybe he does or doesn't beat Dake. Either way Olympic weight or non olympic weight, and point differences between other opponents are not a good way to gage it with them. I also think if J'Den goes down he beats Taylor, but I don't think he beats Snyder. I would root for J'Den but being objective I think it goes to Snyder. JB and Snyder I have for representing us. The other spot will depend on where J'Drn goes if it is him or Taylor. My opinion

    Wrestling regions in each country

“Culture and tradition” is probably true historically for the US, with blue-collar or rural places like PA, OH, Iowa, Oklahoma, etc being strong. But in more recent years due to high level coaching being more readily available, that seems to lead to some of the larger metro areas (typically in the suburbs) gerting stronger (NY, Philly, Chicago, etc).

Flo Wrestling is good/bad for wrestling

Um... https://btn.com/2019/10/17/record-breaking-wrestling-coverage-on-btn-in-2019-20/ https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/5037416-espn-expands-championship-wrestling-coverage https://www.teamusa.org/USA-Wrestling/Features/2019/March/14/ESPN-announces-NCAA-Wrestling-coverage-in-Pittsburgh No, ESPN isn’t going to make wrestling part of its regular rotation, but their coverage of NCAA’s has been increasing which is a good start.

    Rewatching Nickal vs Dean

Dean got even sicker when he realized he lost to a guy with noodle arms. Not becoming of the Destroyer of All Worlds.

Smith came and talked to the greco team when I was at the OTC. I asked him a ton of questions, one being if he lifted. He said they made him lift, and he hated it. He answered all of my questions and the answers were really good. I wish I could have asked him more questions for hours but he was already kind enough to take time out to do a practice and I didnt want to push it

The face of the Penn State program is obviously Cael Sanderson.

given Metcalf is an assistant coach at ISU I have a hard time thinking of him as the face of Iowa wrestling.

I remember reading an article back when he was competing, that said he didn't lift much, and that 200 lbs was the most he had bench pressed. I think that bodyweight exercises like pull-ups and push-ups can be just as effective as weight lifting for many athletes.

    Cox is the best

Cox beat Dake well before he had transformed himself into that all that and a bag of chips. Dont kid yourselves, he beats Dake all day. Also, JB will continue his complete domination of Dake.

Could be. Maybe Gable should have continued to coach. I guess when they changed the scholarship rules that might have had an impact.

PSU is a fairly heavy favorite. They have more sure things. Nick Lee isn’t placing worse than 4th and might win it all. Cenzo is 3rd at worst. Likely 1st Hall is 1st Cassar is top 2 and likely champ RBY top 6 - weight is much weaker and he placed at some be of the craziest weight dive ever seen as a true freshman thats a ton of guaranteed points. That’s a minimum of 80 points. Then they have Konel/Beard (0-25 points), Verkleeren (0-10), Berge (0-18), Shakur returning AA (0-20)...PSU is going to score a lot of points. Like they may pass last year’s point total Iowa has these minimums Lee - 25 Desanto - 13 young - 8 Marinelli - 8 Warner - 8 62, or 18 less than PSU sure these guys could score more, but that is almost a whole champion difference Marinelli, DeSanto and Warner could win it all, but none are expected to Iowa will have to overperform to win. This is the best shot they have had in years and I think I want them to beat PSU for the sake of someone new in there, I’m just not expecting it

    Iowa State this year

Echemendia's matches... the only ones i've really seen is in Freestyle, and he seems to be a killer there. I'm unsure that I've seen any folkstyle matches. His game on his feet will keep in nearly every match, however, if he's anything like Micah Jordan on bottom, he'll have massive issues this first year. David Carr has the ability to win 157, upsetting Hidlay (and probably everyone else). If he goes 165 (which i think is better for his FS aspirations), I think he's a solid AA.

I'm looking forward to a world where ISU is relevant again. Maybe Dresser can move to OU when he's done and perform another resurrection?
