Likewise, I enjoy these jerseywrestling posts and this one in particular. I qualified and competed in this tournament. Like Gary Barton I was unseeded but unlike him I wrestled to my seed.

Hayden was undefeated going into the national finals as a freshman and took 3rd as a sophomore, losing only to Jason Nolf both times. Seriously, that's pretty damn amazing and if he didn't go to NC State he'd be talked about a whole ton more. Maybe 10x more, it's amazing how much the big name schools (specifically their superfans) dominate the discussion online....

Weight class 142. I was 1-1 and done. Lost to 2x College Division Champ from Cal Poly, Glen Anderson. In those days you had to lose to a semi finalist to qualify for consolations.

Gary Barton demonstrated how to get out from a leg rider when I attended my first wrestling camp at Clarion in the late 90s. He had me put a leg in, he sat to his hip then drove his pointy elbow into the center of my inner thigh. He picked me because I was the biggest kid in camp. Still makes me cringe thinking about that type of pain.

No offense to Mark Perry or Joe Scarpello but Joe Williams and Barry Davis have to on the list-both won three titles. TJ Williams and Mark Ironside (on every Iowa fans shortlist) are two of my favorite Iowa wrestlers ever and people seem to not bring them up as much (especially TJ). Spencer Lee will be there soon.

    Brands vs Smith

I agree it would be great for wrestling and I’m not knocking Nelson brands he’s tough as hell but I think he’s being hyped a little to much, just let him wrestle it’s only November and people are taking him over multiple AAs , I think the real argument is if joe smith can beat Kemerer, they had an OT and a one point match at 157 and smith Kemerer could be an ncaa semi

And wasn’t it also at the scuffle where Ed Ruth got his statement win as a freshman against Mack Lewness and Henrich? I think they were ranked 1st and 2nd being the top two returning place winners and undefeated thus far that season.

I believe Barton qualified as a wildcard from DII. And Barton took out the 5,4,1,and 2 in that order...He won is first match 11-5, then 6-6, 4-3OT (2-3-3, 1min rest, then 1-1-1), then 8-5, then 5-3 in the semi's, then 8-6 in the finals.... I'm pretty sure they took the 1 & 2 and several wild cards in DII and all the DIII champs plus a few wilds...I could be wrong on the exact numbers....Also, Hvywt Chris Taylor, Iowa St., weighed 400+. I wish they would reinstate the "unlimited" weight class again. Having the 118 and UNL truly gave a lot of guys a chance to compete at the college level, reinforcing the concept that virtually any one, any size, could get a scholarship and compete collegiately in sport... like wrestling. Back then there was no 9.9 limit on scholarships or how many could be in the room...And Doug Blubaugh was Grady's asst at MSU until 1973, then he left for Indiana.

I actually agree with Tbar no reason to punt a season when they came into still the favorite. They lost 1 duel no reason to torch the barn in the first month.

    Taylor Lamont vs Seth Gross

You ignored like half the argument. 1. He was at 125 2. None of this happened since the 2018 season. Since then Lamont has been injured or focusing on Greco. Would you agree with these statements? 1. Lamont should not be ranked top 8 currently 2. Lamont is unlikely to AA, but he has an outside shot, just like about 5 other guys outside of the top 8 currently?

    Taylor Lamont vs Seth Gross

He hasn’t wrestled a folkstyle match since March 2018. That is almost 2 years. He was focused on rehab and Greco the majority of that time. your arguments are based in his achievements in the 2018 season, at a lower weight, and the accolades of the guys he beat have improved a lot since then. Lets use your examples: Rivera - beat him in 2018 when Rivera placed 6th. Good win, but not anywhere close to a 2019 win. Rivera’s name holds clout mostly because of the wins over Lee and the 3rd place finish. Lizak - December of 2017. Lizak taking an early season loss doesn’t mean anything. The cut was always tough. He isn’t consistent. Look at his seeds vs placement every year. Russell - I’m a Georgia guy. Big Russell fan. He is a one time 7th placer at 125. Tariq Wilson - major stretch he beat Tariq during when Tariq was redshirting. Also a win over Tariq doesn’t mean anything prior to his 2018 run. He placed 4th at ACCs right before ncaas Moisey - come on man. Moisey always takes a ton of losses, plus Moisey then beat Lamont when it mattered, which is literally the only event we are talking about. You are using facts, but manipulating them to make Lamont look better. If we are going to look at wins, we should also look at losses 1. Fausz - never AAd - most recent seaso n he competed 2. Louie Hayes - never AAd - most recent season he competed 3. Alonzo Allen - never AAd 4. Tim Lambert - never AAd 5. Marcus Simmons - never qualified Summary Lamont’s best wins don’t look nearly as good as they do on paper. In fact, he has beaten 3 guys who had AAd prior. One placed 7th once, and the other 2 always take a ton of losses during the season. These wins also happened 1.5-3 years ago. The weight isn’t as stacked as it once was, but Lamont right now looks like a R16/R12 who can maybe sneak on the podium. I’m not picking him to AA. This is what the data supports

I just started posting back a few months ago and I have no idea. It was hilarious, as are most of your posts. Me and MedicineMan added a little flavor to it. If it was taken down because it was a “passive” political statement, then why are we not deleting every post that makes a direct political statement? I’ve seen posters bicker around for weeks about politics on here. My guess is that some snowflake complained. Who is the moderator that took this down? And if we can’t have a Jadidi photoshop contest for the Olympics I’m going above USA wrestling and calling Papa Mamiashvili!

    Nelson Brands deserves a thread

wow it's almost like this kid is a....Brands http://wrestlingforgable.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=1987-11-30T13%3A08%3A00-08%3A00&max-results=1 'I typically go 50-50 with either of them for the first 20 minutes of wrestling. But they don't get tired. They will almost get your leg, and almost get your leg, and almost get your leg, and eventually they'll get your leg. Then they'll get it again. And again. And again. It is highly annoying.'

You obviously know little of the history of Cael at ISU and why he left Ames to State College in the first place. Cael is playing a very long game here. Shrewd is still the word. He may not be the "gratest" coach in D1, but without a doubt, the smartest and most disciplined.

    David Carr...it wasnt a UPSET!!!!!

Finally had time to watch iowa vs iowa state. Made the mistake of going to the hawkeyereport when working for updates. Some of those posters made it sound like young didnt wrestle, but it looked like two top 5 guys going to work. That was a solid match. Carr is super talented. Young has been there before. Carr could easily improve more but still place behind or lose to Young "when it counts", but the kid is good, and has a bright future. They both looked solid until Carr opened it up at the end with the takedown and turn. That was fun.

Came here to post Schlatter over Espo. Left satisfied. That was huge at the time. Schlatter was unbelievable when healthy. So many weapons. Kaid Brock over Cody Brewer was also a huge one. Dean over Ruth. We knew Dean was good, but not THAT good. Kid flew under the radar up until that point and was a major player from then on.

    Intermat/foley

So to be clear - Askren Saylor, Schultz are racists? This is your position? Based on any facts, observations, or simply convenient slander? What makes a person a religious "nut"? Belief in any deity? Belief in a deity to which you do not subscribe? Some other quality, e.g. opposition to abortion? Authoritarian? Meaning what? Don't conflate people pursuing self-reliance and adherence to civil tenets (Conservatism) with wanting the government to dictate all facets of our lives - That is the progressive" view. Implicit bias is limited to our community or is that a generally accepted universal human condition? Hastert?? Is there a single person on this board or community at large accepting of him? That is just a mud-slinging Hail Mary (please excuse and avoid being triggered by the religious reference) to help you feel you are on solid ground - which you are not. Foley is probably smarter and more than the majority of all groups - I assume that since he went to UVA and Columbia. Lots of smart people walking around. Smart in an ignorant direction just takes you to the wrong place more efficiently. Are you positing that Wrestling fans are particularly ignorant? Perhaps you are suggesting that you and Foley are the enlightened ones and we should follow your light down the path of righteousness? Or is this just a vehicle to express your delusion of superiority? Might I suggest less misdirected pathos; more ethos / logos in your argument. You'll likely come to a more enlightened conclusion, or at least an argument ( I hesitate to call it that) which is less replete with logical fallacy.

    Bigger Ringer

He is absolutely in it against Nickal. Tier 1 is absolutely Cox(if he goes here) and Taylor. Tier 2 is absolutely Ringer and Nickal(if he goes here). Tier 3 is the next slew of guys who all cannot break through and beat a Tier 1 but can keep it competitive against Tier 2, such as Downey, Heflin, Martin, Brooks, Jackson, Dudley, Zahid, etc. Now Ringer has qualified. He can focus on getting better, bigger, and more acclimated to the weight, while getting his endurance back to an elite level(it did seem off to me). I would love to see him at the US Open, however I expect him to focus on peaking for the OTT. He will give Cox and/or Taylor everything they can handle. I only expect Bo to be able to hang with him of the rest of the field come OTT.
