    86 KG OTT Discussion

In Freestyle I have Bo in the same tier as Dieringer, Martin, and Valencia. I don't think anyone in that tier is beating DT in a best 2 of 3.

Yeah well Pico is lucky some athlete out there who never wrestled didn't decide to wrestle and kick his butt. Thats just as valid an argument as what you said.

Saturday Night Results These two have matched up outside of college before, with Brooks winning in dominating fashion. Hidlay had leveled up since then and was under pressure to match his brother's NCAA championship. Brooks earned his first championship with three take downs to Hidlay's three escapes. Outside of Hidlay's opening attack, Brooks was the aggressor and the outcome never seemed to be in doubt. No drama and no hoagies in the finals this year. (3) Aaron Brooks (PSU) 15-1 Over (5) Trent Hidlay (NCST) 23-4 By Score 6 - 3 “It was electric,” Brooks said in a post-match interview with the Big Ten Network. “It’s hard to not come out here and put on a show for all these fans. I just want to wrestle how I wrestle in the room and let it fly.” That greyshirt year at the OTC seemed to payoff for Brooks this season and we can expect to see him for three more years. Headed into the NCAAs, fans were disappointed that Zahid Valencia was unable to compete. A Zahid and Brooks rematch would had been fire! Brooks looked sharp and it will be interesting to see how he does at the Olympic trials. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All Americans 1. Aaron Brooks (PSU) 2. Trent Hidlay (NCST) 3. Taylor Venz (NEB) 4. Abe Assad (IOWA) 5. Taylor Lujan (UNI) 6. Nino Bonaccorsi (PITT) 7. Hunter Bolen (VT) 8. Cameron Caffey (MSU)

Saturday Night Results (2) Hayden Hidlay (NCST) 28-1 Over (5) Quincy Monday (PRIN) 24-4 By Score 5 - 4 Hayden Hidlay faced Quincy Monday in a rematch of their NCST vs Princeton dual. Hidlay got in deep on a single and eventually turned it into a takedown. He then released Monday. It was 2-1 when Monday took down to start the second. He tied it at 2-2 with an escape. Monday took a shot from space. Hidlay got his hips back and circled for another TD. Hidlay rode out the period and led 4-2. Hidlay took down to start the third and got out with 0:58s of riding time remaining. There was a scramble near the end of the period and this time Hidlay got the wrong end of it. Hidlay wins 5-4. ESPN caught up with Double H after the match. What were you thinking about coming into the NCAAs? "The loss to Nolf last year was tough. I can't pick the cards I get in this life, but I can strategize, fight and wait for my shot to lay them down. When the opportunity comes, I will be prepared to capture everything I have ever been looking for. That included going through Deakin." Monday was hot this tournament and your finals was closer than your first match. What was going through your mind before the match? "Fast hands. Fast feet. I just try to simplify things. Move your hands. Move your feet. Don't get caught flat-footed." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All Americans 1. Hayden Hidlay (NCST) 2. Quincy Monday (PRIN) 3. David Carr (ISU) 4. Ryan Deakin (NW) 5. Josh Humphreys (LEH) 6. Jesse Dellavecchia (RID) 7. Wyatt Sheets (OKST) 8. Kaleb Young (IOWA)

Jan 9, 2020. https://www.nwktc.edu/news/post/northwest-tech-names-new-head-wrestling-coach Northwest Tech has recently welcomed a new Head Wrestling Coach, Chris Guillot. He is coming to Goodland already having a fondness and familiarity for the area, having served as the head coach for Goodland High School from 1999-2001. During his time at the district, he developed state championship and a top five team. Guillot graduated with his degree in Physical Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he wrestled and earned distinction as an NCAA Division II All-American. Before his time at the university, he spent two years wrestling under well-known area coach Steve Lampe while at Colby Community College, also earning honors as an NJCAA Wrestling All-American. Throughout his years of coaching and competing, he has built an extensive network of wrestling advocates, including former wrestling champions such as Ramico Blackmon, Willie Gadson, and Nate Carr.

    Best Never to Win Hodge?

Snyder was the pound per pound best for 3 years. I think the mostly decorated wrestler should have gotten at least one hodge. Junior world gold, world champ, olympic gold. Then wrestles guys much bigger in college. I think snyder was a once in a generation talent when in college. Unfortunately I think he peaked and the tank is better. But I'm speaking accomplishments in college.

If you’re just saying who’s the best college wrestler to never win the hodge, I agree Snyder is in the conversation, hence why I suggested him lol.

Not really hard to say at all. Kolat himself has stated this. He blames the coaches for bottling up his style at PSU and not being able to wrestle / train his way. It’s very common knowledge that’s a big part of why he left PSU. Pretty sure Cary would know what school was or wasn’t a good fit for himself.

    1998 NCAA Champions

You're in reference to Joe Gonzales and Azevedo....and you are absolutely right....they called them the Gold Dust Twins. In their last 2 years they had a combined record of 183-2. Gonzo losing in the NCAA finals in '79 to Gene Mills 16-13 in a barn burner, and Azevedo losing to Randy Lewis the same year 20-14, also in the finals.

    GSP and NCAA All Americans

The level change window is a lot bigger in MMA. If you're wrestling in folkstyle or freestyle you need to have a really good level change and be able to get low to snap off that shot. In MMA you don't need as dramatic a level change because of what you said, the upright stance. In MMA people don't have that same defensive posture since they can punch, kick and knee if you get close to your leg. In actual wrestling you can't do that so you have to use your head, hands, etc. In MMA if you brought your head down like in wrestling you'd get kicked or kneed in the face. If you can gap somebody in MMA and get to a high single and push them into the cage, you're probably going to finish. In wrestling there's no cage, so you can scramble, twist, and do all kinds of other things. In my first MMA fight I had 4 takedowns, and only 1 of them was from space, the rest were from pushing into the cage and getting to the legs/body very easily. It also helped that my opponent was a BJJ guy with awful takedown defense.

Also, I'd like to say that I prefer Bo's style over Zahid's and , at least at the moment, Nickal appears to be a person of better character. I would rather Bo represnent the USA if it came down to it. .. and I do appreciate Mokoma's willingness to consider some of my points. I just feel that, up until now, Zahid has done more with his freestyle career. This could obviously change in the near future.

No we just hope he is doing what is best for him. There's no question where Ringer's loyalty lies. He just thinks this will make him better, and there's the personal decision of doing what is best for his lady. Hopefully this gets him a spot on the Olympic team. When his hand gets raised, you'll still see the OSU logo. And OSU will be fine without him. The program didn't crumble when Mark Branch and Chris Pendleton left. Or when Coleman Scott left. This is something we are pretty used to.

The question that everyone really wants to know is what happened to Zahid Valencia? How come he didn't wrestle at the end of the season? Has anyone heard anything? Also, Daton Fix, what happened with that story? And, are there still legal proceedings going on with Flo? And what about Gable Steveson??? Is the investigation still going on or is it finally over? What did they find out? What about Dylan Martinez - wasn't he the guy with him? Nobody seems to care about this story. While we are at it, alone heard from Mudflap lately?
