    Wrestling’s Back! BTS Chicago

For those who aren't aware, BTS Chicago is now run by former Illinois high school state champ, Indiana U All-American, former high school state champion coach, Mike Powell. The organization has been putting on some bigger events to raise money for the inner-city youth programs for some time now.

He was a Hwt in college- 165 in HS. That might explain something. Another MD story- (not related to this exact subject). He wrestled the dual in Ames against Chris Taylor. They had a press conference afterwards. Someone asked him how it felt to wrestle Taylor. He looked out and said Taylor caught him. He held off for a few seconds until everyone caught their collective breaths. Yeah, he continued, I was headed out towards I-45- he caught me and pinned my a$$!

    Is Eierman eligible?

Turk quietly had a really good year last year. His only two losses were to Lugo in rideouts at wrestle offs (#1 seed at NCAAs) and O'Connor in OT at Midlands (#2 seed). Only official loss was to O'Connor. He had nice wins over Storr and Clarke. He'd definitely be an AA contender at 149 if he came back. I was hoping he might give it another shot at a different school for one last year. He's definitely a strong candidate for an extra year. He blew out his shoulder in his first match of his freshmen year when many thought he would have been the starter over Carton.

There have been plenty of guys that have found success at the lower levels. But there also have been many big time recruits who have washed out at the D1 level and went to a lower division and did not have the success that was expected. Obviously the skill level and talent is less, but a guy who does love wrestling anymore is not going to waltz to a D2/D3 championship.

A coach wanted me to drop a further 8kgs in trying for the inter-service tournament. I told him I got crabs from a rack in the transit barracks. No practice, no weight cut, no tournament. A free 2 weeks in Quantico and DC before having to go back to my (parent) unit.

When did they drop wrestling ? I remember being at DIII tournaments with them in the early 80s. They had some talent.

Took out Dean, Martin, Heflin, and a bunch more internationally getting him a top 10 ranking in the world. If that isn't a great wrestler I don't know what is.

TD awarded would be my thinking. Similar to how you can lock hands in folkstyle neutral, but you have to let go when they TD is awarded.

The 4-2-4 is a standard transfer and has its own detailed guides. The rules aren’t complex for it.

Thanks! I hope he leverages his wrestling talent to land at a school that will help him create a soft landing in case wrestling doesn’t work out. Seems like he might be at a big juncture decision-wise.

He basically said as much in a few of his interviews after he left Penn State. It started his senior year of high school. The downturn in performance was very noticeable after his junior year. I think him leaving Iowa probably has a lot to do with the fact he's not going to see the lineup anytime soon. His results this year were not good. When you're used to being elite, all of a sudden not being elite can make things really hard mentally, especially if you're already struggling with burnout.

SEBASTIAN RIVERA IN THE TRANSFER PORTAL

It's mandated for D1 only, but even if it wasn't it would be advantageous for an athlete to enter the portal. It is basically a workflow tool to make sure the athlete and both schools have dotted their I's and crossed their T's from a compliance perspective. It expedites the NCAA approval process and allows the athlete to participate with their new team sooner.

I never tried to get out of a match but I did have a trick to get a break/stoppage. I used to make my headgear a little loose and when I was on bottom I could put my forehead on the mat and push my headgear down over my face to my neck. The ref would always stop the match so I could get up and get my wind back before a restart. I know it sounds lame but I was always dead tired from cutting weight.

Can't believe no one is talking about Seabass going 165 for OkSt during the season and then going his more natural 86kg for OTT (as Ringer's replacement for Cowboy RTC)

if i recall correctly, Branch was like 8-9 entering NCAA's. recently Moisey made the finals unseeded. ronnie perry made it as the 15 seed.

Matt L. entered as #1 seed, was also unbeaten if I recall. Dropped his first round boot to Earl Walker of Boston University . When Walker was beaten the next match, Linland was eliminated.

Unless Storniolo was playing it close to the vest, judging by his graduation video on NU wrestling's Instagram page, he was as caught off guard by this as anyone.

No. I didn't start following until the 2019/20 so while there are probably some top wrestlers I am familiar with, there are probably way more I am not.

I got my fingers crossed he inks with VT. I get the pull to get back home and know he loves Jersey. I think VT is a better spot for his development. He’d get to roll with Brewer, Frayer and Andonian.

@goheels1812 what is the current status of the campus closures at UNC? The other transfer thread had me wondering if maybe some athletes are considering switching to schools with open facilities where they will be able to train and compete. I know it’s a silly hypothesis and one that I hope isn’t true, but the Rivera xfr thread is making me think that maybe some athletes are worried about losing opportunities.

It's true. He had the highest pre-enrollment-financial-contribution to GPA ratio ever at the school. It was almost as high as Jared's ratio at Harvard.

I'm not going to hijack this thread and make it about P.E., but as an Elementary Physical Education teacher(not gym teacher) I can tell you it's much more than just rolling out a ball and blowing a whistle when it's time for the class to leave. May not seem like a a lot of work because we do get to play a lot of games, so I guess some might be jealous that we get to run around outside or in a big gymnasium and play games while others are stuck in a room teaching math? But there's lot more that go into it than just playing games. That's not what it is from the beginning of class till the end. There are different models of teaching P.E. and to each his own. But I can say being at the elementary level there is a lot of motor skill development being taught, lots of mechanics, evaluations of students that may need OT or PT, etc. In addition, it's a great class for teaching teamwork, sportsmanship, problem solving, etc. As for the PE teacher that just comes up with activities and then wrangles them up, that's the exact kind of PE teacher that gives us a bad rap. And I think the chances of their being HS or college wrestling this year are less than 10%.

buck.......... that is sooooooooo wrong there are fundamentals to body movement ......... those fundamentals can be and used to be taught. It's just that quite awhile back maybe the 80's Phys Ed. was downgrade to "a waste of time". Now you have a BUNCH of fat lazy kids being raised...... NOT all but PLENTY.

Downey is a great wrestler but his social media personality is tiresome and embarrassing. Unfortunately, I see it going this way. Taylor aboslutly wrecks him and does the finger to the mouth shush Downey on twitter: "Haha who cares, it was all a part of my plan. Now I know how to beat you" and begins his nonsense trash talk all over again.

    Wrestling’s Back! BTS Chicago

Because the governor and the mayor of Chicago put in strict provisions that put the healthy and safety of all Illinoisans on the highest pedestal. New cases decreased by 49.x% over the last three weeks even though the hillbillies down south sued Pritzker because they were inconvenienced.

Top 5 Penn State wrestlers of all time

Please explain how. 1 guy is 134-3 with 2 titles (2 Hodge trophies), 2 runner ups and 4X big ten champion with 2 of his 3 losses to 4X champ Dake by 1 point the other guy is 99-9 with 2 titles (no Hodge trophies), 1 runner up and 1 DNC, no big ten titles and losses to Keaton Subjeck, Isaac Jordan and 3 losses to Alex Marinelli none of whom are even a national champion. Sorry it’s not even close. I didn’t even consider bonus points which would widen the gap. Of the Sanderson era, there is no way Taylor is worse than 5th if college only. He’s easily number 1, if including international.
