    BTS Chicago 6/28

To me, the overall day was worth the $20. I didn't really have high hopes that the main event would be the best match. Richards and Sanders was worth a good portion of the money as a viewer. I try to find the overall value in these things. I don't pay $60 to watch one UFC fight, I pay to watch all of them on the card. There's going to be snoozers in every type of fight card. I'm glad I paid for it. To a good cause, BTS Chicago and the athletes. Oh by the way - If you pirated this stream, you took/are taking money away from our athletes and non-profit organizations aimed to help kids wrestle. Times might be tough, but don't be a cheapskate.

Classy guy--always gave a great effort, never embarrassed the sport. Overcame quite a bit and was very unheralded. Best to him in retirement and props for wanting to give back. More like him...

    Wrestling’s Back! BTS Chicago

After growing up in southern IL and went to undergrad in central IL, but after moving to Chicago over a decade ago I can’t even keep track anymore of how many times I have been shot. Plus every 6-12 months I wake up in a bath tub of ice and realize someone stole another one of my kidneys. It’s super duper scary in Chiraq I don’t know how the millions of us can stand to live here and that global companies are based out of this town. Crazy that the Windy City is where they were able to bring together such an awesome event tonight to help our athletes repping our great sport!

Took off shoes and symbolically put them at center of mat after winning a quick tech at BTS Chicago. I was always impressed by him. Our ladder just lost some important depth. Says he is going to focus on the kids and give back. Can do more on this front if not competing.

Yes this is a slippery slope. I have 2 sons and 2 daughters. To deny that they are gifted with different talents and capabilities is beyond reason. Although my daughters have outperformed the males in their classroom in some physical competitions, they are not close physically to my sons. If we don’t allow for true DNA based segregation of women’s athletics I fear that women will not have an avenue to compete in athletics.

JO had the game plan to keep it close by not engaging and try to score late. Absolutely pathetic imo in an exhibition setting.

    BTS Chicago 6/28

Match of the night had to be Zane vs. Sanders. Lots of scrambles and lead changes. Great match! 13-12 Zane. I enjoyed the wrestling and the commentary overall. They don't have as high of production quality as flo but that's to be expected. I disagree that the commentators needed to be explaining scores throughout the match because I doubt anyone paying for this event was a casual fan who doesn't know the rules. The only other people watching might be friends/family and even then they likely have someone at home who could explain the scoring to them. The issue was that the ones commentating couldn't see the scores from where they were sitting.

    Wrestling’s Back! BTS Chicago

For those who aren't aware, BTS Chicago is now run by former Illinois high school state champ, Indiana U All-American, former high school state champion coach, Mike Powell. The organization has been putting on some bigger events to raise money for the inner-city youth programs for some time now.

    Pletcher (DarkHorse?)

Weight shouldn't limit his effectiveness. He just got done making 149 under folk rules for 4 years and I don't remember hearing about the weight ever being an issue. Who knows how good he'll be. At this point he bullied a smaller guy with little senior FS experience. It is interesting that outside of JO most of our 65 kg guys are on the small side.

I guess I can kind of understand why keyboard warriors bash guys who have a brash or unlikable social media persona or whatever (ie. PD3). Now we're bashing guys for lifting weights and being religious? NATO is a super humble, intelligent, and classy NCAA champ. Any program would be lucky to have him on staff.

Hahaa I feel all the shame. :( Lugo looked strong and that defense was on point. @nhs67 I was under the impression there were no weigh-ins for this, but if Lugo can look that solid at 65kg hes gonna be tough. @Gantry Lugo was always a tough dude to take down so I figured it might be low scoring, but he showed some things, wil be interesting to see how he looks down to weight, could pull an upset or 2, or look like James Green Im just excited to have competition back.

Further illustrating what a wild time we are living in, China allowed CanSino Biologics to skip phase 3 clinicals for their covid vaccine. Greenlit for one year military use. This is the same vaccine co-developed by the Military Sciences Academy that Canada is currently testing. No idea if this will be a huge success or a disaster but we’re definitely going at it fast and loose!

    What is this technique?

My high school coach used to teach the breakdown for beginner upper weights. Also, thanks for the head outside tip. I've been finishing my head outside shot by reaching inside the legs like that for a few years now, never connected it to this freestyle turn. My kids won't know what hit em!

Lugo definitely looked bigger than Pletcher - but he certainly looked impressive. He controls the ties quite well and his reattack ability is starting to become his best trait. Was punishing Pletcher for taking bad shots. If he can handle the cut to 65 without many ill affects, he can make some noise.

I thought the event on a whole was wonderful. I do wish Nolf and JO would have opened up a bit, but it was clear that this version of JO was wrestling not to lose. That means he respect(s) Nolf and his high level abilities. Nolf has a wonderful ability to make his own offense off of anything, which is what makes him so dangerous against anyone. That same sort of respect isn't something that JO gives to Retherford, as we often see them let if fly. This tells me that JO also had a deep respect for Nolf due to him coming up in weight. JO often does compete at 70 keggers (154lbs), however 175 is atraining weight. I think he was just concerned about going all out that high up. That said size was not an issue here, and while shorter he did appear to be thicker. If they wrestle again, Nolf will win. Nothing about that match told me JO had much of anything for him, except respect. I wanted Pletcher to win. That said, Lugo dominated. He was faster and stronger, and... *gulp* taller. Which is something new for him, I think. In any situation, he showed there are weight classes for a reason. I am very curious to see what their agreed upon weight was, as I still see Pletcher as a darkhorse for 65 keggers. Lugo definitively looked thicker than Pletcher, and would need to adjust his style of living to make 143, I believe, so it very well c(w)ould be a different type of match at competing weight. All props to Lugo here, as he did what he was supposed to do. Rau is just better than Downey right now. Conditioning appears to be a heavy factor. Disappointed by this match all-around and none of it is due to the match that was wrestled. Props to Taffur for taking a match on such short notice, however it was evident that he wasn't at a level of conditioning that was going to do him many favors against someone who'd been preparing for this for several weeks. Richards-Sanders was easily the match of the night. I am becoming more and more of a Richards fan every time I see him wrestle. He isn't flashy, and he never will be. He is as gritty as they come, though, and unless you end the match, you better be ready to get puched right in the mouth(proverbially speaking) for the entire match. Big Braun beating Pfarr was a pleasant surprise. I think that says more about Braun than it does Pfarr. It appeared to me that Braun took the match a bit more serious and came in in better shape, with more pop to his step right out the gate. I would expect a different outcome if they went at it again. Lil Braun I believe also came in just as prepared, however Kulch came in with the intention of ending on the highest note possible. Well done. Big fan. I think McKee was the favorite here. He has always been better at free than folk, and Dardenes has quite been the opposite. That said, McKee seems to be at the right weight and this is his style. I am looking forward to seeing him on the senior level for the next 5 years(or so). I'll admit that I wasn't familiar with the other matches, however both winners appeared much better with fast techfalls. I did expect a show with the girls match, as it was billed as they had gotten the top two girls in the nation for the match. Not disappointed, just surprised.

I don't know that this is a fair statement. What was the agreed upon weight of last night's bout? Lugo is a horse. Very physically powerful, similar to GHulk. That said, if the bout was at 65 keggers (143lbs) or less, then I agree. If it was 149lbs+ then I don't believe you can accurately state he is a prognosticatory failure.

    Downey has terrible sportsmanship

i think downey really thought he could hang in greco because he can push around pretty much everyone else in free with that heavy underhook style... when you go against a greco guy who isn't afraid to actually wrestle you upper body it is an entirely different story... plus, you actually have to wrestle par terre in greco... maybe he got nervous a little and that drained his stamina more than usual... maybe i'm just grasping at any straw i can right now in the hopes that he can make it legitimate against DT... FWIW... Rau would kill DT in greco as well... none of the pretty boys want any of the real wrestling...

did JO or Nolf even try to score a real point? My god what a boring match.. Lugo clearly too big for Pletcher imo and had a dominant win. Best match of the night was Sanders vs. Richards. The greco/Freestyle match with Downey was zzz

    What is this technique?

Seems like it would be harder because the bottom guy could just kick his own leg out or post it to get out of the leglock. That would put him out of danger of both a lace and the lock. Did he not do it because he didn't want to risk getting gutted? I guess the wrestler on top had his arm pretty tight around his waist.

I agree that it would suck to lose your spot in the lineup as a senior to a freshman but ... best team goes on the mat. I don't really know who would win the wrestle-off. I don't know if 149 is an optimal weight for Saunders. I do know that Yianni goes where he wants and if that means Saunders v Richard, that's what it means. The alternative is Yianni at 149 and there's no doubt that Richard hits the bench.

    $1,000 point spread idea

if anyone could count on 100K buys it might be a profitable venture... but think about how many on here whine about the 12.50 a month for flo and think that content should just be given away for free... have you seen the whining about the $20 buy in for a pretty good card this weekend at a time when there is little to no live entertainment available at all? ever been to the us open? ever seen who is in the stands? the only thing that keeps wrestling as well funded and afloat as it is, is the membership fees for every parent, coach, and little kid having to pay $50 a year to USAW for a little card... when you see those numbers you realize just how small wrestling is in this country... anyway... 100K is a pipe dream for buys... and anything that was trying to be held consistently even more so...
