Downey = eyeballs and clicks, no way would Flo drop him from the card. I'm also hoping Pletcher gets "sick" with the flu last minute and oh no, and the match with Caldwell is about to be cancelled, Darrion's just standing there at center mat flexing... but wait!! Who is -- what's that entrance music playing? Who's walking towards the mat in camo warmups?? Is that -- DEAR LORD IT'S BRENT METCALF!!!

Not to completely miss the point of the subject, but why is everyone freaking out on Flo on social media? As a company the bottom line for them is making money. They obviously have access to viewership numbers on everything they film live and videos they post. If they see that they don’t get the same hits on women’s matches as they do men’s matches, then it’s not their moral responsibility to offer the same contract to the women. Dake vs. Chamizo is going to be a crazy viewership draw. Whether it’s right or wrong, the women just don’t have a headliner that can compete with that strictly from the standpoint of generating views. I think people miss the mark on Flo’s goal for the sport. Their goals are centered around making money and growing their platform. Hence why you can’t pay monthly and have to pay a yearly fee. If they grow the sport in the process then that’s great. I feel like people really need to change their perspective on what Flo brings to the table for wrestling. It’s a platform to give us as fans easier access to watch matches, replays, documentaries, etc. But at the end of the day they have bottom lines and it’s about revenue. As for women’s wrestling, I’m a huge fan. I love watching our senior level girls. Helen Maroulis’ run to gold in Rio is one of my favorite US Olympic moments. But that being said, it’s not Flo’s job to promote women’s wrestling as much as the community wants it to be. The onus for doing that is on USA wrestling, UWW, AWW, NWCA, and the women themselves. PD’s initial comments were insensitive, but then he started getting flat out childish and disrespectful in some back and forth with Sarah Hildebrandt and Jacarra Winchester. The dude just doesn’t know when it’s time to stop.

My opinion is that I don't enjoy watching women's wrestling. I wouldn't pay to watch it. Men's wrestling is much more exciting to me, personally. I believe the numbers will show that the majority of fans have a similar opinion. Seems like I should get to have that opinion. It may not be diplomatic, nor politically correct - but it's my opinion. In a free country like the US, shouldn't I get to have that opinion and voice it without retribution? Seems like I should. I agree it won't be well received by some, isn't politically correct, and it isn't in the best interest of wrestling - but it is still my opinion. That being said, I don't enjoy watching men's volleyball at all. I find it boring, too. Women's volleyball is so much more fun to watch - both beach and indoor. Hands down better. As both a collegiate wrestler and collegiate and USVBA volleyball player, it seems like my experience gives my opinion at least some legitimacy. I don't dislike women who wrestle or men who play volleyball... I just wouldn't pay to watch either one. What a terrible world it would be if we couldn't voice our opinions, and instead we all were forced to agree on everything.

Cancel culture really has no place in wrestling if you ask me

Hi I'm Coach Fiorito and you may be familiar with my Youtube channel Wrestling Mastery. In my latest breakdown I chose to cover a very powerful technique that's not used by the masses. For most of us it's not an unfamiliar combination of positions, but definitely when used together a new move for most. Both wrestlers I cover that use this technique exceptionally well come out of the same powerhouse region of wrestling, North Ossetia Alania in Russia. This is one of David Baev's go to techniques and a position Soslan Ramonov will look for. For this reason I gave the move the name ALANS DUMP. For those that don't know about North Ossetia Alania, it's home to the Alans International a qualifier for the Yarigin. And a close rival to Dagestan. Khetag Tsabolov, David Baev, Soslan Ramonov, and Zaurbek Sidakov are a few world beaters from this region. Hope you enjoy my video.

For what seems like the 20th time in 5 years PD3 is moving on. Eventually he has to look in the mirror and ask himself AMITA? I wonder if Flo changes the match and let’s Taylor hang a 50 burger on him...

    Ohio State is vastly underrated

I have several reasons for believing Singletary will be very good at 197: 1. Unlike most 220 that made the drop, Singletary was not overly dependent on superior athleticism but instead technique and match management. In other words he was seriously outgunned and found a way to get it done anyway. As hard as it is to be successful at this level it says a lot about the guy's grit and toughness. 2. Many who make the switch were unsuccessful at the higher weight. While Singletary was not in the super elite he was an AA candidate and had some very good wins at heavyweight including Parris and Stencel. 3. Ohio State and the OTC have great competition and coaching in the upper weights. The challenge from Gavin Hoffman and getting to bang with Orndorff and Traub daily will help. Having Cox, Moore and Martin at the OTC is fantastic even with the defection of Snyder. Tervel's coaching prowess is well documented. 4. Singletary's success in limited time down at 97 KG including a win over Honis who was an AA at 197. I think Ultimately it will come down to if he can handle the cut, I believe he will be fine but if he isn't Hoffman presents a nice alternative. Maybe they both end up being successful at 197 and the Bucks end up with good depth and competition at this weight. I know that probably isn't likely but both guys were blue chippers wrestling out of weight class so it's reasonable to believe that whoever emerges should be very competitive.

    Wingspan

Normal wingspan = height + ~1.5-2 inches. The da Vinci Vitruvian Man illustration that shows a man standing with his arms out with everything in equal proportion isn't true anymore in terms of averages. In basketball, players with freakish wingspans of like height + 4" or more are highly coveted, which is why you see it tracked as a recruiting and draft metric. I don't think it's measured in wrestling other than maybe for novelty, and I'm not sure it creates an advantage like it does in sports like bball, vball, boxing and maybe tennis. For every Yianni, Ruth, McD and JO (Jordan Oliver seems to have a long wingspan, but maybe it's just his stance) you have a Stieber, Metcalf, Ringer, Zain, Ramos, etc. who don't appear very long-armed. That being said, an evolutionary biologist from Berkeley ran a wingspan study not too long ago and discovered that having a wingspan > height was a strong predictor of success not only for basketball players, but for MMA fighters also. Over 1000 MMA men & women were included in the study and the research team found a linkage between wingspan and higher win-loss % with greater degrees of success with higher wingspan to height proportions. I'm assuming it's because having a longer reach is an advantage in striking, parrying and defending but not so much the grappling stuff, so I'm still not convinced longer wingspan bestows any sort of edge in wrestling. I guess it's more about knowing how to use it to one's advantage.

This isn't true (am I correct in remembering Vak is a lawyer?). You can absolutely be punished for your speech as long as it's not the government punishing you. I personally think that employment being tied to speech is problematic which is why I'd like to see at-will employment ended in this country, but you're completely wrong to say that you get to say whatever you want without fear of being punished. And something to maybe think about. You complained about "hateful" posts on social media. Well, many people would also consider your beliefs to be hateful even though you don't think they are. You don't have a monopoly on determining what views are acceptable and what aren't.

Only the first part of the post was directed at you as a genuine answer to your question, which was important. I was 100% serious about that. The second part was directed at those who won't accept what Metcalf did sucked. Sorry if you thought I was taking a shot at you.

100% no. Everybody faces consequences for things they say, the Constitution only says that the government will not infringe on your rights to Free Speech (even though it does in some select circumstances). ETA: People lose their jobs all the time for saying stupid things.

I am normally not a fan of PD3's antics, but I think kicking him out of NJRTC is a bit harsh. He should just apologize to Sarah and Jacarra on the next episode of FRL, the NJRTC should take him back if he agrees to stay off social media, and everyone moves forward. The Eagles aren't cutting DeSean Jackson and he said a lot worse.

What's sad is this new era of political correctness, where everyone has to hide their true feelings and/or thoughts...even when they're correct, or risk harsh consequences. And, if you knew Downey, he'll continue to get better, has other options, and always has a back-up plan. You'll see.

    Bad Look for Wrestling

Those events sell media rights. The Great Alaska Shootout is dead because They wouldn’t give ESPN control of the event. Those events only exist for recruiting. It is a vacation for players. And all the fans watching on TV and local tourism bureaus pay for the vacations. I think you’re trying to draw parallels but there aren’t any. The Nittany Lion Open doesn’t exist anymore. There were more athletes entered than fans that attended. Iowa doesn’t hold a tournament. Neither does Ohio State or Oklahoma State. There is a reason the programs with fans and resources don’t bother hosting tournaments.
