    High Leg Over

    Carlton Haselrig - RIP

KCMO2 asked about Carlton Haselrig's two college losses. I believe that they were both to Dean Hall of Edinboro, one in the semi-finals of the DII nationals when Haselrig was a freshman. (Haselrig took 3rd and Hall won.) In 1987, Haselrig defeated Hall for the DI title (with Edinboro evidently having moved to DI that year). Haselrig also had one tie during his junior year (1988). Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of that wrestler. There were many factors that led to the "Haselrig Rule. " I was coaching DIII in the late 1980s so I heard all the arguments, though my memory is a little rusty. Some DI coaches wanted to eliminate DII and DIII wrestlers from advancing in order to allow for more DI wrestlers to qualify. Some DI coaches argued that, in no other NCAA sport with separate divisions, did athletes from DI or DII advance to the DI nationals. Some DI coaches (and even some DIII coaches) did not believe that DIII wrestlers were competitive at the DI nationals. Haselrig came along and heated up the debate when he won back to back to back DI titles, but the discussion had started before he came on the scene. I think that the 1988-89 season was the last year that DII and DIII champions had full automatic qualification for DI nationals; however, a few of the DII and DIII champions competed at the 1990 DI nationals under a grandfather provision when advancement was eliminated (and I think one DII champion--Dan Russell--competed in the 1991 DI nationals.)

    Does Myles Martin have chance?

I hope so because he's a really good guy with tons of potential. It's kind of funny when you think about it that everything at 86 was really kicked off because Martin totally choked to PD3 at the US Open last year and set off a whole chain of events. I mean think about it... if Martin wins then Downey probably doesn't earn a spot to Final X, doesn't get on the world team, doesn't run his mouth and set up a PPV match with Taylor, doesn't kick off a huge women's wrestling movement, and Nomad keeps his job and asking for bikini pics. Literally everything is Myles Martin's fault for 88 seconds of not finishing the job.

The workout videos they have posted are outstanding. Aside from live feeds, their best content are the training vids. There has been a lot of legitimate criticism of Flo lately, but regardless its been amazing recently.

Pat Brucki enters the Transfer Portal

Yep, that’s why the greyshirt idea is puzzling. He’d lose a year of eligibility and pick up the tab on his own tuition so he can compete another season? (I’m not asking you @Idaho, I’m just wondering) As I mentioned previously, I guess he could be taking time off to get his academics in order and settle in (esp if grad transferring), or to ease the scholarship burden at the new school he’d be going to bc they have a senior 197. Or maybe he wants to take a shot at FS or GR in the pseudo-Worlds this year? Idk. But yah if he’s transferring, why not take a standard RS? If he’s grad transferring, there’s a strong chance that he’d be leaving the Ivy League anyway.

With a nice portion of it going to the awesome seafood spread at now-defunct O'Sullivan's Wharf in Norfolk.

He's entering FOR 21-22. He posted on instagram that he's taking this year off for some hip issues and then coming back for the possibility of wrestling the next year as a grad student which he can't do at an Ivy.

From Wiki - The Chicago Tribune credits the idea to Los Angeles sportswriter Steve Harvey approximately 30 years before ESPN began using the term. On Sept 6, 1972, the Los Angeles Times introduced the Bottom 10 as follows: "This season The Times will keep football fans up to date on the bad as well as the good in football with (Steve) Harvey's irreverent feature, The Bottom 10".[8] ESPN now publishes the rankings "With apologies to Steve Harvey."[9] In 2008, Harvey resumed his "Bottom 10" columns for college and NFL football in the Los Angeles Times.[10]

I very rarely post on here, and when I do, I like to talk about Purdue wrestling. And this happens every. Single. Time.

    Dake at it again

Some of what I hear in Dake's posts or voice is a dollop of what could be "New Age narcissism". Another part almost seems to have a quasi-religious dimension, and that is something that many athletes start to engage in. I tend to view that in terms of how (they think or feel) it might affect their performance or monastic training or belief that their efforts will be successful, redeemed or meaningful given the "sacrifices", and so on—i.e., as a matter of "faith" rather than "truth". An interesting study might look at elite athletes in terms of religious belief or lack thereof. In wrestling, it really seems to be part of the culture, especially when you include places like Iran and Dagestan.

    Please Help - Karelin question.

that was 2000, before that somewhere around 1997-1998 it was just overturning. for example I remember Kerry McCoy beating Alexis Rodriguez 1-1 in 1998 Worlds (Tehran) but after a protest from Cuba, they overturned the decision and gave it 4-1 to Cuba. that was the semifinal.

    Please Help - Karelin question.

that's not incorrect, Giunta didn't show up, faked an injury or something to not waste his energy in an impossible mission, still advanced to the next round as one of the best runner-ups and eventually finished 4th. (only in 1999 rules were different)

    Senior Open set

Curious to see if Lee and Nickal show up, and what weight Cox, Ringer, and Zahid go for. Additionally, I'm betting $10 to Blue Dragon's kids club of choice that PD3 goes 92kg and runs from Taylor.

    Dake at it again

I’d humbly suggest that instead of self-medicating with a daily dose of your buddy’s poop nuggets, it might be better to wait until a doctor tells you that you have a condition that warrants a fecal transplant, and then tells you what you’re options are for accomplishing that.

    Dake at it again

There are multiple ways to do so. It's often used for severe C. Diff refractory to antibiotics. One of the methods is tablets with the donor feces inside or through an NG tube. In saying that, Dake has put out pseudoscientific ideas fairly often recently and his insistence on avoiding things like sunscreen is a slap in the face of actual research. He has a right to spread his medical BS, but people should also go to more valid sources for that type of information

    Carlton Haselrig - RIP

1973 Clarion would have placed 4th in D1 but D2 points didn't count, in team scoring. Clarion had 3 champs in Rohn, Schalles and Bill Nelson. RIP Champ.

    Did Nomad Really Get Fired?

The anger on this board is only outweighed by the general ignorance of corporate responsibilities vis a vis communications. What do you expect a corporate entity to provide in terms of information on employees being released? Have you never worked in a corporate environment or had employees (both good and bad) you were personally and professionally responsible for? To say anything would be unwise and could not possibly benefit the firm. The vitriol towards Nomad is hard to understand. He's' a little bit of a nerdy dude, but he clearly loves the sport. Not everyone is physically / mentally built to be a competitor. So what? A large dose of anger management and general personal awareness could benefit the discourse here.
