It's the disease of the internet. Some people are so eager to correct others and pick fights that their brain alters everything they read.

    Wrestling eligibility?

The only rule about eligibility in NAIA is you can't have grandchildren.

Some good competition here. Sharifov who beat Snyder the last time they met will be there. Just go to an App Store and download a VPN so you can watch on UWW site. It’s free and has worked like a charm for me. Here’s a link to entries: https://unitedworldwrestling.org/article/henri-deglane-grand-prix-france-preliminary-entries

What did we learn this week?

So on the Oklahoma State thing, I think A.J. Ferrari reminds me of Mo Lawal who was an AA for the Cowboys in the early 2000's. I think he keeps it on his feet and holds down guys some, he will do very well and win many matches comfortably. Nebraska- I am not surprised on this win. Last year Boo Dryden came in from NEO and got tossed into the guantlet of Big 10 at semester. He's had time to train there now and get some size on him. Anybody that saw him at various tournaments or duals while he was at NEO know how freaking mean the s.o.b. is. He is very physical and I think he may pull another "upset or two" before they year is done. He qualifies for NCAAs I have him round of 12 at least. Other things: I believe it was 184 in the UNK vs. IA St. dual there was a beautiful throw. OKState there was a nice supplay in the HWT match. If you have ESPN + the underrated dual of the weekend was Northern Illinois vs. Southern Illinois. Some fireworks of matches. The 133 was super fun to watch and the 149 (I believe it was that weight) was won when a kid (NJCAA Champ Cardeionte Wilson) hit an inside trip for an old "Chuck Woolery" 2 and 2 for 4 points to pull off a 3 point win after trailing with 5 seconds left in the match.

Nope. The only people who cared when JB won Olympic gold are wrestling fans. The JRE is literally the most popular podcast in the world. Millions of people have now been introduced to JB and wrestling that otherwise would not have.

Lots of intriguing matchups potentially among these 3 duals. Who thinks O’Toole beats Valencia? Mauller has Degen and Thompson. I’m hoping Kent can prove he’s for real against Colbray. What matches interest y’all?

Carr vs Teemer has to be a good one Colbray back up to 184 will be good for him I like O'Toole as an upset pick over Valencia Mauler vs the 6'5 Degen will be interesting - He better get to his finishes quickly or Degen will tie him up and scoot around until he worms his way out on top. 125 as a whole will be interesting 285 - We will see where the freshman Schultz stands with several ranked matchups

Didn't Thompson graduate? I don't see O'Toole beating Valencia just yet unless he catches him and sticks him, which is a possibility. I'm not quite sold on Kent yet. He was on fire to start last year, and then he finished up wrestling pretty average. Mizzou is loaded with good young talent though, so this should be a pretty good measuring stick for alot of these guys.

What did we learn this week?

I have seen very little of Ferrari, but at first glance he reminds me of Scott Winston. Not making any prediction about his career based on that. I think his athletic gifts will get him far at 197.

Yeah, I just watched the two bouts, Destribats looks pretty good. Not great, but a good enough scrambler to pin Zain and to catch up almost to Yianni. I figured he must be a East European transplant but no, he has been training in Argentina for years. mspart

That probably was their best chance because it is unlikely their prime competitor will sustain so many injuries in a short period of time again. I guess we agree in principal.

    Some Michigan Wrestling Questions

Damn. Additionally, I don't mean to make it sound like Amine and Embree won't be the starters. I believe the will be, just haven't decided on the weights for them yet. Amine really doesn't want to go down to 184.
  23. 1 point
I think it sometimes depends on when the starter becomes unavailable. Did they know way ahead of time, or was it a day or two before? Making weight is a process, so your backup can't just snap his fingers and make weight when he wasn't expecting to. A lot of times when a starter is out the backup who wrestles is from the next weight down. Under normal circumstances, you would not bring someone out of redshirt just for a match or two, and that limits flexibility, but this year that won't be an issue. I expect fewer forfeits this year.

  28. 1 point
That's certainly what he was going for, and I can see if working from time to time if you are able to get it very quickly in transition where you keep some momentum going. And prior to watching that match, I would say there is would not likely be any harm in it if it didn't work. But Zain rolled on to his back and had no leverage whatsoever to force the opponent through the roll and he was easily able to just sit up on Zain and catch him there.

    Flo 1/9 card

From my house, it looked like Adeline was a little surprised/unprepared for someone to be able to just barely be able to get their hands/fingers onto her single leg and her not be able to sprawl out. I have also only really seen her do high-level snatches and attacks like that, so she was probably smart not to go under Tamara and give up easy go-behinds, but I would expect her to add a lot more fake to drags/fake to FHL if this had been a best of 3. Tamara's tactics and movement was nearly flawless during this match. Great disciplined performance.

    Holy Hoosiers!

Yea, maybe. Let’s let the season play out here for Indiana. Remember the cubbard was bare when Angel assumed responsibility. This being the third year of trying to convince potential prospects to give the program a look. He has some damn good assistants in the room now for help. Old coach ran the program down to Dll level of a roster. 5 years here at least for any coach to get situation back to a competitive level.

That was terrible technique from Retherford. He stayed in great position all through the takedown and then never actually locked up a leg lace. He just hugged the legs and started rolling. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

If memory serves Zain got the takedown and attempted a leg lace which Destribats countered and caught Zain on his back and stuck him.

True but a lot of that was thanks to Tamara, that was an amazing performance going up 16 pounds against one of the all time greats in Gray. Last time they wrestled Gray was in control from start to finish, Mensah-Stock has jumped levels. Incredible performance, when we the last time Gray was soundly beaten like that?

I’m a fan of Gray but she looked so flat. So one dimensional. Sweep single attempt and attempt. No variation. Little pressure, little pep. Did not look good. Tamara’s first period was great. Congrats to her. Looked good.

I honestly feel everyone's pain on the ads. the folks at Flo who, like you, watch and enjoy wrestling, have no control over what ads play and when and we are forced to watch them as well. In this case, however, Flo did not produce the event, and had zero control over the event or the ad runs. you would have seen the same production and ads no matter what platform they event streamed on. that said, I find the anger at Spartan Combat Races a little discouraging. this is a sponsor coming from outside the wrestling space who is investing a lot of time and money into the sport. they are helping provide opportunities for post collegiate wrestlers to stay in the sport and compete. it is a very good thing for the sport that a company like Spartan Combat has taken such an active interest in promoting and developing senior level wrestling. I'm sure Spartan Combat will welcome the constructive feedback. I agree that the ads were overkill. but I also think a little perspective and understanding is also warranted.

Vito. Wow -- that last scoring flurry, a smoother than smooth elbow pass to a lace. He has just extraordinary skills (Captain Obvious here). Watching from afar, you get the feeling that he and Yianni feed off each other in an extraordinarily productive way in that room.

    If Dake...

Point is, rules where different, medal match qualifying was different, # of weight classes, number of former Russians/Soviets... Whoes to say if everything was the same for Burroughs as it was for Smith, or vice versa, that their medal count or color of medals would be the same. Things would be a lot different for many wrestlers if double elimination was never eliminated. So, comparing athlete accomplishments over time is in many cases subjective.
