    Takahashi now in for Japan

The UWW site is now showing Yuki Takahashi as their entry at 57 kg. The leaders of the Japanese wrestling federation must have been reading this forum and caught their mistake. The Georgia entry at 65 kg is TBD.

Takes 3rd at senior nationals in Greco. Pretty good for his first Greco competition in a while (I think). He is also wrestling freestyle I believe. I hope he and more of our top talent guys decide to go Greco full time. I think that will be the biggest thing that will help our Greco results. Not to mention if Dake and JB aren’t retiring, his path to making the freestyle team is going to be extremely tough. Must have saw his brother make the Greco team and thought I could do that too :)

Big props to anyone going both styles--not for the weak of heart. His technique looked pretty solid (like his armspin) for someone who hasn't done the no leg-grabbing thing in a while.

Hey, it was only one rapist - and his points were needed for Cael's first NCAA title as a coach. So, it was just a great coaching job. Besides, he ditched Andrew when he was no longer needed. Don't be such a moralist.

Facundo/Hamiti was the best match of the entire weekend so far. I have no idea how Facundo was able to hold off a takedown in the last minute. Freakish flexibility and defense. Hamiti with his "skinny nerd" appearance is going to be a fan favorite. Both have bright futures in the Big Ten.

I’m interested in this as well. He’s posted a couple of goofy things about Cox but on balance he seems like a good guy.

As a former athlete I get Cornell Athletics notices and they are working under the assumption that they (athletics broadly) will be competing next year and will even be trying to work in extra fall practice time to allow teams that have now lost a season or two kind of get back into gear.

Your supporting point for your stupid argument is that Zain transferred high schools when he was 15?

    wrestling poem

Here is a poem that references wrestling by the great poet, Rainer Rilke, who was born a Czech but wrote in German. In German, the poem is called "Der Schauende" (roughly: "The Man Watching" or "The Beholder"). Below is an English translation followed by the German. I can tell by the way the trees beat, after so many dull days, on my worried windowpanes that a storm is coming, and I hear the far-off fields say things I can’t bear without a friend, I can’t love without a sister. The storm, the shifter of shapes, drives on across the woods and across time, and the world looks as if it had no age: the landscape, like a line in the psalm book, is seriousness and weight and eternity. What we choose to fight is so tiny! What fights with us is so great. If only we would let ourselves be dominated as things do by some immense storm, we would become strong too, and not need names. When we win it’s with small things, and the triumph itself makes us small. What is extraordinary and eternal does not want to be bent by us. I mean the Angel who appeared to the wrestlers of the Old Testament: when the wrestlers’ sinews grew long like metal strings, he felt them under his fingers like chords of deep music. Whoever was beaten by this Angel (who often simply declined the fight) went away proud and strengthened and great from that harsh hand, that kneaded him as if to change his shape. Winning does not tempt that man. This is how he grows: by being defeated, decisively, by constantly greater beings.

More that the motivation and life priorities for a 30+ year old and two time Olympian are not going to be the same as a 18/19 year old right out of high school

Doing both is a big lift, especially with the bracket sizes in freestyle. To do both means weighing in and wrestling Friday, Saturday, and possibly Sunday if you're still alive in freestyle. There are more than 40 guys in every weight from 57-86, and a couple are over 70. That's a lot of matches in a short time.
