Nothing on this kid? He just knocked off Jacob Camacho, Nashon Garrett, Tyler Graff and Seth Gross. I have a feeling he might be pretty good for Northwestern. What a tournament.

Pyles and Mal are fine. JB and John Smith are great too. I don’t know what people are complaining about especially looking at the precedent we have - NCAA/B1G on ESPN -past years Olympic commenters- that has always been terrible. The flo boys know know the athletes and the rules that by itself is a massive improvement.

Is he eligible. I don't think everyone from New Jersey is automatically a citizen of Italy. I could be wrong.

    I want Cox vs Sadulaev

Agreed. Sadulaev would not be much troubled by Cox I don' think. I think Cox would have trouble with Snyder, Mohamadian, and the rest of the top competitors in 97kg. I have not been on the Cox is the greatest train yet. He has to do more than whine and be angry. His wins at the trials were not that stellar over Moore. Moore did not score, but Cox did not tech either. If he was the greatest, he would have teched Moore without trouble. We'll see when and if he decides to go 97 before 2024 olympic trials. mspart

I am a proud fan-boy of J'den Cox. He came and did a camp for us and I could not have been more impressed. I love the chip on his shoulder and his dissatisfaction. I believe it fuels him in a positive way. Can't wait to watch him at Worlds and through 2024.

The FS team USAW is sending to Oslo is definitely the most experienced and best credentialed team we have ever sent to a World or Olympic competition. I expect the results will reflect that especially as many of the best wrestlers from other countries are likely to miss this worlds due to it following the Olympics so closely. Below is our team along with how many World/Olympic teams they have made and what hardware they have bought back so far. Let's hope they can add a bunch of medals to that already impressive list.. 57 kg - T Gilman - 4 teams - 1 Silver & 1 Bronze 61 kg D Fix - 2 teams 65 kg Yianni D - 1st team - our only rookie 70 kg J Green - 5 teams - 1 Silver & 1 Bronze 74 kg K Dake - 4 teams - 2 Gold & 1 Bronze 79 kg JB - 10 teams - 5 Gold & 3 bronze 86 kg D Taylor - 3 teams - 2 Gold 92 kg J Cox - 5 teams - 2 Gold & 2 Bronze 97 kg K Snyder - 7 teams - 3 Gold 2 Silver & 1 Bronze 125 kg N Gwiz - 4 teams - 2 Bronze

This team is amazing. By my calculations, together they have 35 previous senior-level world/olympic appearances. And in those 35 appearances they brought home 30 medals. That means 86% of the time they medaled. That is not just good, it is astounding. As they say in investing, past performance is no guarantee of future success but I feel very, very good about the US chances in Oslo.

57: Gilman wrestled the best an American has at 57kg at the Olympics in a long time. If he wrestles the same way, he's got the Gold 61: Fix. The Fix that mopped Tomasello has a clear shot at meddling. The Fix that doesn't engage or use his talent will DNP. 65: incredibly tough weight with massive amounts of parity. A shot at gold? Of course. A shot at DNP? Of course. 70: Green is so good at 70kg. A medal once again is a high probability, but so is a DNP. I pick him meddling. 74kg: Dake on a mission. Wins gold. 79kg: Burroughs on a mission, wins gold. 86kg: Taylor / Yaz part 4 coming right up. Taylor with gold again! 92kg: the Cox we saw at WTT is the version that wins Gold. Another gold! 97kg: Snyder / Sadulaev part 4. Sadulaev wins again, but the margin is super close. Snyder with another Silver. 125kg: Gwiz looked good. If Taha and Geno aren't there, can medal. Zare is going to be a problem I think. Going with Bronze.

    I want Cox vs Sadulaev

Intriguing match of course, but I have Sadulaev comfortably, similar to his latest match with Snyder. The Tank at this stage is the p4p, and until this match happens, it's all just wishing and dreaming. That is, he'll also have to get by Snyder first, and, in a best of 3, it will be exceedingly difficult for Cox.

    I want Cox vs Sadulaev

We all knew he was great, maybe even the best on the planet. He just never showed up, in accordance to the rules, to wrestle. If he wants Sadulaev then he needs to either earn the 97 spot next year, or see if Flo (or someone else) can put on a card that is lucrative enough to bring the guy over. I, for on, would LOVE if we saw something like what Bajrang did last year. Come over to train for a month or three and go to a 245lb Flo card or some crap (Steveson/Snyder in the same day?) then see if there is a few RTC's willing to let him beat on their top dogs.

If one is going to make the distinction between Olympic vs non Olympic weights then shouldn’t one also make a distinction between Olympic medals earned in games with just 6 weight classes vs. those earned with 10 or more? Math wise, the depth of field for each weight increases as the number of classes decreases, especially in the middle weight classes. Thus medals won in a 10 weight class era would be viewed as being less impressive than those won recently. The double bronze would also have to be considered in some regard. I have argued for some time that it is unwise for uww to keep a selection of the same classes for the olympics that they use for non olympic years. Establishing Olympic weights between the existing non olympic weights would force all competitors to cut or bulk for the olympics and better distribute all talent across the non olympic classes removing the disparity that exists 3/4 of the time currently. The six weight class limit at the Olympics is an injustice to the sport imo. It just doesnt accurately represent the broad distribution of the talent globally in a fair manner relative to the pool of participans.

JO: feels like that poor Chinese girl who was stripped of a gold medal because she took ibuprofen. Punishment did not fit the crime. Fix: takes SARMs and then makes a cockamamie excuse about it. Punishment also did not fit the crime....

    Daton Fix, first since when?

Honestly, I don't consider amphetamines to be much of a competitive advantage for wrestling. But you're right that JO was very close to being the answer to the question here if he had qualified, and I understand if many root against him because of it.

Gable Steveson returns for the 2024 Olympic run. After going WWE for a few years, and apparently turning his back on Amateur Wrestling, the newly minted WWE Star returns to what made him who he is and... * Runs through everyone at Heavyweight at the OTT. His closest match is Kerkvliet in the finals, and he techs him in the first period. * At the Olympics, goes unscored upon, teching his way to his 2nd Olympic Gold. His star power at the WWE only increases, and the further cross-promotion of Amateur and Professional Wrestling goes into overdrive. In 2025, he lands a movie gig alongside The Rock. Let's see how this post ages. ;-)

    All eyes on Burroughs’ calf

I think the following can all be true: 1. 79 kg is a weak weight internationally and has been the past cycle. It will once again be weak in 2021. 2. Dake is now better than JB, who has declined. 3. At no point in his career was Dake as good as JB at his peak. 4. Dake may still prove over the next 4 years that point 3 above is incorrect (and the 2020 olympics were an abberation), but it is unlikely.

This has already been addressed. Historically, Iowa's freestyle program is almost exclusively Iowa alum. The older alum have either retired, are recovering from serious illness, or moved on. The next wave of Hawkeye freestylers are almost all on the current college team. It's a transition period to a younger generation exacerbated by COVID.

    All eyes on Burroughs’ calf

The Twitter account - Profootballdoc - is a former Ortho Surgeon for the San Diego Chargers. He has written quite extensively on calf strains and the biggest problem is that even a mild strain is hard to manage. For someone like Jordan, his explosiveness is what separates him from the rest of the world. I do worry that a calf strain will impact his Achilles and create greater disruption to his lower extremities. Luckily, Alex is a solid fill-in for 79kg.

So here’s three, Rick Sanders. Three world medals, ( 1, Gold, 1 Silver, and 1 Bronze, along with two Olympic Silvers. Might have had more except that he was killed in a tragic automobile accident. Additionally Sanders like Bobby Douglas competed in Greco as well as Freestyle on the World team. Larry Kristoff winner of 5 World medals, ( 3 Silvers, 2 Bronze ). Plus a pretty good coaching career afterwards. Bobby Douglas as mentioned above Wrestled Freestyle and Greco, and won a World Silver and a Bronze. Like Kristoff, Douglas had a very significant coaching career afterwards.

    Zain and JO

The data are that Yianni won two NCAA tournaments and several international tournament. Lee has not done any of that. Yianni also has two world titles. Lee could have been in Lincoln as Starocci was and as Yianni was. He ducked. If Yianni was at all lucky this weekend it's b/c JO and Zain vacated his weight. But Yianni beat everyone who was there. Thus he will be at the World Championships while Nick Lee is getting ready for Rutgers. But keep telling yourself how Yianni is scared of Lee.
