Its a strange choice of a hill to die on. From a risk management perspective, why allow a policy that could expose undergraduates participating as amateurs in a combat sport to direct personal and physical contact in a wrestling room with an unvaccinated coach in the time of a global pandemic? These coaches are not providing instruction over zoom.

According to reports, lots of geniuses out there are refusing the taxpayer-funded $20 vaccine. Then, after they get sick, they are getting monoclonal antibodies — which cost taxpayers $2100 and are experimental. These same people are already pumped full of other vaccines.

I was pretty bummed about this transfer, mainly because I don't like to see guys bailing on their commitments and I like to see parity in the B1G. But if what Willie said (I think?) is true -- that that the transfer was caused by the impending termination of Kennedy/Howe for refusing to get vaccinated -- then I'm totally sympathetic with Young and can only shake my head at Kennedy/Howe for the self-inflicted wound.

The news is Jimmy Kennedy and Andrew Howe will be fired from Northwestern because they won't get the vaccine. They have until October 1st it seems.

You are spot on. Nice to hear from people who actually know the process and aren't just spouting off based on their preconceived opinions. My son is at HLS and got waitlisted at YLS, - just as the calculators predicted, a prediction based purely on GPA, LSAT and non-URM status. Hell, the calculators even predicted yield-protect waitlists from UM and Penn!

Dude, you are 100% wrong. I have multiple friends currently at HLS who went to the University of Alabama. HLS like every other law school cares most about undergrad GPA and LSAT. Heck, Harvard isn't even the best law school. Yale is the best, and it is probably the only law school where undergraduate school actually matters and the only reason it matters is because of how the admission's committee works there. After the admission's office makes an initial determination about a candidate's competitiveness, they give the applications to a panel of faculty members who make their own recommendations. Sometimes, those faculty members have views that only students from elite undergrads should get into Yale. But Yale is such an anomaly in the law school world, that if you even make it to the faculty portion of the committee, chances are you are getting into Harvard or Stanford and getting a large scholarship to another T-13.

As someone currently at a T-13 law school, I say with full confidence that where you went to undergrad matters very little and only on the margins for law school admissions. The poster above who said it is almost entirely based on LSAT and undergrad GPA is correct. LSAT and undergrad GPA accounts for nearly 1/5 of what goes into a law school's U.S. News and World Report ranking. Since this is the most easily manipulated stat in the methodology that U.S. News and World report uses, admissions committees care most about getting high undergrad GPA medians and LSAT scores to boost their law school rankings. It is for this reason that the University of Florida has risen nearly 30 spots in the law school rankings over the last 5 years as the school has made a concerted effort to raise their class profile by offering large scholarships to high LSAT and high undergrad GPA students. At my T-13 school, I have classmates from Ivy league and their equivalent undergrads, but the student body as a whole is primarily composed of individuals who went to far "less prestigious" state schools. Bottom line, Harvard Law and other top law schools are going to take a 3.9+ GPA, 172 LSAT from the University of Alabama over a 3.6, 168 LSAT from an Ivy League School. I say this as someone who went to a top undergrad and despite having a high LSAT score, struggled to get into the top law schools because my undergrad school deflates GPAs compared to most schools. On the other hand, top MBA programs care a lot more about your undergrad school (as well as your subsequent work experience) than they do about your undergrad GPA (although GMAT still applies). I got into every M7 B school that I applied to (Wharton, Booth, and Kellogg) despite a much lower GPA than those schools' medians.

Here’s the question-knowing that there will only be more vaccine mandates on the way for everything from travel to restaurants, are these two coaches basically done with the sport? Who is going to hire somebody so stubborn who won’t make such an easy decision in the best interest of the team? If so, it’s a sad turn of events, all because of fear of a vaccine that has proven to be one of the most safe ever developed.

Bold prediction. If I'm hiring a future doctor, lawyer, financial advisor, however, I'll take the Northwestern grad. over the OSU national champ. No one wants to hear that A.J. Ferrari will be performing their open heart surgery.

This. An outbreak on the team right before Big Tens would be devastating and ruin what these kids have been training for all season. Coaches should do everything in their power to minimize the likelihood of this happening, which includes getting vaccinated.

Seems like it is a level above personal political views. If anyone on the team gets it, with quarantine, contact tracing, and other protocols, it puts the seasons and individual competitive events at risk over the refusal to take a few shots to protect the team and each member. The opposite of the kind of leadership and culture you want to develop.

    Russia wrestle-offs

Kurugliev looks so much more equipped when he wrestles them, but a lesser JB/Dake situation if you can't beat your countryman Naifonov leads the series 4-2. All of their matches have been decided by a point or criteria. They've never scored more than 5 points collectively in their matches either. And I agree that Kurugliev is a tougher match-up for David Taylor. Naifonov is 5 years younger tho (24 compared to 29) so Russia might view Naifonov as their future.

You all are harsh and nit picky. It’s a fun video someone put together for his fans. Not a big budget attempt to intimidate DT or his fans. I enjoyed seeing more about his training environment.

New series of guesses: Lucas Byrd to Ohio State Griffin Parriott to retire from folkstyle ASICS offered contracts to athletes at schools with an existing Nike contract in place, incentivizing them to move elsewhere. Several big name wrestlers including RBY, move together to another school without conflict of interest.

Religious exemptions for the Amish or somebody like Tom Ryan might be approved. It's difficult to argue for a religious exemption when you have had every other vaccine already.

It's only a matter of time before every public and private university in the country mandates vaccines. For public universities, it will be easy to tie federal funding to the vaccine/weekly testing requirements. For private universities/college, they will likely be required to vaccinate all their employees due to the new 100 employee labor regulations. These universities will not want to pay for weekly testing for anti vaxxers, so will mandate it. People need to just accept the COVID19 vaccine just as they do every other mandated vaccine like MMR. The FDA has approved it, and 20 years from now those laying down their jobs for the sake of "freedom" from a vaccine will look as foolish as the anti MMR vaccine folks.
