Visits either completed or upcoming for Indiana, Iowa, Penn State, Ohio State, and Michigan I believe.

Haha. I was being sarcastic. I think, just based on the many interviews Ive seen Lee, his father, and the Brandses give, that Lee has a lot more say in what goes on than is typical for a college wrestler so I find it interesting when folks pile on the Iowa coaches for what they perceive to be mismanagement of their star athlete (not that they're above reproach fwiw). No insider info so my take may definitely be the wrong one

    Anticipate Lineups for 21-22

My guess on Nebraska's Lineup: 125 - L Cronin is back - # 13 seed 1-2 @ NCAAs 133 - Boo Dryden, D Serrano, A Thomsen & J Parrish will fight it out. 141 - Chad Red 3X AA 149 Ridge Lovett or B Hardy - surprisingly the Roster shows RL as 133 still - that is a mistake. He could RS 157 - K Davenport 165 - Peyton Robb - will contend for AA in deep weight 174 - M Labriola - 2X AA could beat anyone in weight. Should be preseason # 4 or 5 184 - T Venz - AA as freshman # 8 seed last year Also have Hass who probably RS 197 - E Schultz - #2 seed and B10 RU is back - Also have S Alred who can RS Hvwt - C Lance - Good heavyweight but probably not good enough to AA in a very deep weight. This is a very experienced and dangerous team. They have a lot of guys that are capable of making deep runs at the NCAAs.

Its tougher in the sense that qualifying for the Olympics is harder for an individual athlete because of the reduced weight classes and strict continental quotas but does that produce a better field at the actual event? How is Africa getting two guaranteed spots over some better Euro wrestlers improving the competition compared to worlds? If you wanted to create a stronger tournament than either WC or Olympics you'd give Russia, Iran, and the US more entries per weight than other countries.

Coach P talked about the OSU schedule recently and it's the same thing; waiting on the conference and 'ball' sports to lock in their dates and times, then the oldest-greatest is locked in, then it can be released.

Yep - great schedule this year - very excited for what the coaching staff is doing there.

    Anticipate Lineups for 21-22

Yes. I posted this on the Everything Huskers thread on the G-board. " After contacting the Husker SID the roster has now been updated with weight classes. But don't read too much into it, as both Lovett and Parrish are at 133. With Thomsen listed at 125 again it looks like a cut and paste job from when these guys were freshmen." I'll try a lineup/depth chart when we have more clarity at their actual weights.

Looking at Army's team - they should have a pretty solid and very experienced squad - whether some of their guys can step up to AA level is the question. 125 - Jr Ryan Chauvin or Fr Dan Uhorchuk 133 - Soph M Montgomery, T Deck or Fr Rich Treanor 141 - Sr Corey Shie 149 - Sr PJ Ogunsanya - def EIWA Champ 157 - Sr - Markus Hartman 165 - Fr - Dalton Harkins 174 - Soph Ben Pasuik - def EIWA Champ 184 - Soph River Simon or Fr Kyle Swartz (if he can make 84) 197 - Sr JT Brown - EIWA 2nd 285 - Sr Ben Sullivan

Tremendous. I think women’s wrestling will prove to be more popular than some other women’s sports, thereby making wrestling as a whole more viable.

    All eyes on Burroughs’ calf

Was listening to FRL yesterday and they talked about a tweet that BJ Futrell posted saying he and burroughs were rolling together. Don't know if it was 100% or what, but glad to hear he is at least on the mat. Short turnover time from Trials to World Championships

A lot of people are wrong about COVID-19 vaccinations. They consume an astronomical number of bits scouring the internet to confirm their narrative.

That's now twice in the same thread you've used the term "self-own" only to be proven wrong moments later. Pneumonia is a common consequence of covid. Postal workers are not exempt. You'd think after the first error you'd pipe down.

    Willie's Earth Shattering News

We used to trust the experts - back when we had a pretty good idea who they were. Now, the internet is full of so called 'experts' and its not so easy to figure out who really is an expert vs who is a fake. (Not to mention who is telling the truth vs who is flat out lying to us.) The inconsistent messaging from the experts has not helped their cause, it only made matters worse (and continues to.) So, naturally, we stop trusting experts and decide to "do our own research" armed only with a tiny speck (relatively speaking) of actual expertise. Now - we're stuck. The US's brightest medical minds are the best in the world, and they aren't being listened to. Facebook and TV know-nothing loudmouths are now more popular sources of information than medicine's best and brightest. This is where we remain stuck, as countries who are our military adversaries see the value of having a US population that can't rally together to (literally) save their lives. So they employ cyber bad-guys to jump in on social media, stoke the flames of anger, and do everything possible to keep us ill informed, off-balanced, and divided. (And, yes, the US does this same thing to other countries.) Our population is being played. Not one group, or one party, or certain sets of people - everyone. Approximately 1 out of 500 people have died of Covid in the US and we still can't rally together to end the pandemic (as many have correctly stated, we can't end the virus - but we can end the pandemic) because we're too busy bickering amongst ourselves. There's only one way out. US leadership has to do what they did with seat belts (made them mandatory), drunk driving (made the penalties severe), and other antivirus shots (made them mandatory.) The good news is that our current leadership is doing exactly that. And, one way or another, being drug kicking and screaming or not, we're going to end the pandemic. We have to (doesn't matter if you like or dislike the current leadership, that's an irrelevant distraction to the matter at hand.) The bad news is that we'll continue to bicker, wrestling coaches will continue to quit, wrestlers will continue to transfer, until eventually we get past the pandemic (although the virus will still be with us in a less problematic form) and years later we'll look back on it (like we are now looking back at seat belt laws), and wonder how we could have allowed ourselves to be manipulated into pointless bickering when we should have been rallying together.

This is hilarious. It'd be one thing if they weren't contemporaries who had competed directly against one another, or if Taylor's freestyle results dramatically outstripped Dakes. However, they were contemporaries, they did compete against one another, and Taylor's freestyle results only marginally outstrip Dake's. And while DT is winning at an Olympic weight, it's also by far the weakest Olympic weight. The world level results are roughly comparable with a slight edge to Taylor. The college results are heavily in favor of Dake, and he's something like 115-0 against Taylor head to head since entering college, including getting pinned once. Stop the madness.
  32. 1 point
Ahahhahaha. You are right. What the hell is Nick Piccininni doing on there?
  33. 1 point
The answer is easily Taylor. In the sport of wrestling, nothing matters more than Olympic Gold. I guarantee you that Taylor wouldn't trade it for all his head to head losses with Dake or his 2 extra NCAA titles. Dake has had an outstanding career that stacks up with anybody's the country has ever produced who hasn't won an Olympic gold medal and who isn't named Lee Kemp.

I'll bite. Fact: people have had side effects from the vax, including death Fact: vax side effects are not always reported Fact: fully vaxxed people are getting breakthrough infections Opinion: too much grey information to fire people And folks need to stop talking about protecting the vaccinated from the unvaccinated. People are too big of idiots to understand the nuance. It makes the speaker come off like the idiot. Edit: The CDC guidance changes and causes mistrust. It might be good for today and it will be wrong for tomorrow.

How does firing two unvaccinated coaches keep the vaccinated safe?
  36. 1 point
Except that the COVID shot isn’t a vaccine by definition so your point is moot also at most places an individual can get a religious exemption for certain vaccines and still be employed but apparently Kennedy and Howe were denied those as well
  37. 1 point
My point was more that northwestern was never going to leave the decision to vax up to the individual because the entire university is in bed with “big pharma” and for everyone in this post who thinks it’s a good thing or funny that 2 stand up respected coaches are losing their jobs because they refuse to have college bureaucrats make personal medical decisions for them , you all are straight clowns

    Carter Young

I was pretty bummed about this transfer, mainly because I don't like to see guys bailing on their commitments and I like to see parity in the B1G. But if what Willie said (I think?) is true -- that that the transfer was caused by the impending termination of Kennedy/Howe for refusing to get vaccinated -- then I'm totally sympathetic with Young and can only shake my head at Kennedy/Howe for the self-inflicted wound.

The Gophers were 7-2 last year with only losses to Neb. and Iowa and were around #7-10 all year in most of the rankings. Eggum's first recruiting class since being named head coach (Steveson, Lee, McKee, etc.) are just hitting their stride. Since then recruiting has been solid (except for maybe 2019), and most needs have been addressed. Also, an outstanding practice facility has been built and an RTC has been developed with a full time coach. Things are looking up in Gopher-land!

The 10 years at the job qualifier makes this a lot tougher, especially because a lot of the usual suspects (Oregon State, Indiana, Michigan State) actually did the dang thing and replaced their long time coaches. I'm struggling to think of a P5 school that realistically has high expectations with a long time lame duck coach, which I think is great for the sport.

Dake - What was wrong with him?

The cut wasn't it. He lost the 50/50 positions to a bigger, more powerful guy with equal skills. He looked 15lbs smaller and got big-brothered any time it got interesting

Dake - What was wrong with him?

I think it's relevant to note that Kadzimahamedau also had a first round match, and also cut down from 79kg. I agree on the larger point that Kadzimahamedau was the better wrestler this time around.

Dake - What was wrong with him?

Dake went 86kg at the 2016 OTTs and made it to the finals, beating Taylor along the way. (I kind of remember thinking that 86kg was not Dake's ideal weight class.) By 2024, however, Dake and Taylor will be like 33, and guys like Aaron Brooks will be coming for the crown.

Dake - What was wrong with him?

I wonder if Dake should think about going up to 86 for olympic reasons, I never thought he suits the cut to 74 and the disaster here may have had weight cut issues playing a part. 79 obv his ideal weight but it isn't an olympic weight. And considering 86 isn't too deep a division and he has the better track record vs Taylor it might be a thought....

Dake - What was wrong with him?

I’m not a Dake fan I’m a NJ and therefore big time Burroughs guy and I will agree Dake has looked gassed over the years, but come on, to act like he didn’t look quite right is BS. Yes his opponent is a stud and beat Chamizo as well, but Dake looked smaller and off a bit and the likelihood that his weight cut played a major part in it is obvious.
