    Bouzakis to Ohio State

Snyder, Pletcher, McKenna and Moore NOT EVEN REMOTELY peaked as freshmen. Hell, Myles Martin had, by far, the best year of his career as a senior, but simply had 1 bad match at NCAA's. The mat wrestling comment is getting old, tired and inaccurate as well since it is really only based on the Jordan family's performance on the mat. Of their current starting lineup, how many show glaring weaknesses on the mat. Please be specific...

Most Improved D1 team will be? Why?

Missouri had a good team last year, but I expect them to be much better this year. They are a trophy contender.

Besides PSU and Iowa, none of those programs have come anywhere close to accomplishing what Ohio State has. They all, for the most part, do a good job. Dramatically better is just wrong. That's a great measurement though. Teams that you've "noticed were coached." Good stuff.

Ah look at it this way if in some great fantasy land everyone starts believing he’s downgraded, then IU could possibly have a shot at him.

    Burroughs at 79

Burroughs has not won a world title since 2017. He has been close, losing by one point in the last two world championships. It seems, though, that most folks here are favoring to win this year at 79K. Is that because people think the field is worse at 79K? is it because Burroughs is better when he does not have to cut weight? Or is it something else?

Reminder: Shot clock is not an offensive point to me, unless the referees count. Also, I think Yazdani tries a big move and fails then has to fight back, gases out, and gets steamrolled. 2nd period tech. KS does it. He will.

    World Championships Bold Predictions ?

chainsaw... any medal for the US in greco will be huge, so, even one will be cause for celebration... i am cautiously optimistic on schultz... i was hopeful for the last couple of years, but, to see him struggle against coon (no technique at all) and then him dropping that first match at trials makes me nervous... i think it is mostly mental (as is pretty much everything), but, i do not trust he is getting anywhere near the best greco training he could be at the moment... i hope he straight wrecks house, but, i am tempering expectations right now... to be 100% honest, hancock has to be considered the only real medal threat we have at the moment... vera possibly as well...

    World Championships Bold Predictions ?

Based on our Olympics result, this is really not far from where our GR team is at. I enjoyed watching GR at the Olympics but it a different sport all together. Hancock is our best bet to medal I think. He was 7th so was not too far from top 3. Just needed a win in the quarters and he could have vied for a medal. Here's to Hancock!! mspart

    World Championships Bold Predictions ?

well, chainsaw... i am hopeful we win some matches... that will be a good showing... but... Hancock is always a threat at 97 no matter how small he typically comes up... i am interested in seeing schultz at 130... he is a multiple time age level medalist... pat smith at 72 could be interesting... he looked good and good sized at trials... provisor at 82 will always be interesting... he appears to be wrestling a little different and i am hopeful he gets better results... vera at 87kg is worth following... omania dropped sancho (olympic team) at 67... i don't know much about him, but, he handled sancho at trials, so, maybe he will do something... seth jones at 63 balled out at trials... he is a little long in the tooth and this is his first world team... i am hopeful he surprises...

I was implying that nobody gave Tony a shot at beating Gable, not that Gable wouldn't be a factor. Sorry for any confusion in my wording there.

These threads eliminate everyone else, so they are a waste of time. Obviously the best nicknames are Nick Piccinnini, Nicky Pushups and Bo Nickal. I'll take Nicky Pushups, but I understand it is a personal preference.

Correct. I think 2024 is his ride into the sunset. Assuming he wins Dake will need to stick around for 2028 and try to become the youngest champ we've ever had.

So IF/WHEN Mr Fast Twitch faces Steveson(who is without nickname), then we can also assume that MFT (not to be confused with Medical Forfeit) will defeat said Steveson?

Since this is the only thread in which one has the clear edge over the other, can we make the determination that nickname and nickname alone is the reason KD is 11-0 against DT since graduating high school?

For some reason I’m letting his non medal at worlds bother me. Couple this with the many other guys that did great and I’m wondering if the worship has been overdone. Then the loss at whose number one … I’m being harsh, I know. I know little about him. But the fawning over him made me think he’d do better at worlds.

    I got Yianni

Yeah I mean I think most versions of Tevanyan lose to Rashidov. But I also think most versions of everyone at the weight lose to the (widely accepted) #1 guy. I appreciate the effort but he's the favorite here.

Tevanyan is going to win gold. Yianni should get a medal though unless he gets a terrible draw.

It was the perfect storm. Karelin was obviously on the decline. The rules at the time. And the fact that once Rulon took over Ghaffari, Ghaffari immediately turned coach and began prepping him specifically for Karelin. Remember Ghaffari went 1-0 with Karelin in Atlanta. And I"ll never forget, I was close by when he was literally in the back halls of the arena talking with rulon about gameplan for training, right after rulon beat him in the trials finals. They did develop a game plan, leaning on the rules of the time, and was executed to perfection. I think it was a suprise only in the fact that Karelin and never lost and Rulon was on his first world team. But if you look back at all that was involved leading up to it, it wasn't a huge suprise.

I might be limited in the amount of likes I can give, but thank you for all of the replies! Really interesting reading!

Along a similar line of thinking I’m going to wait until he can beat a prime Dan Gable and John Smith back to back, followed by a prime Brock Lesner and Jon Jones in the octagon, then prime Flair and Hogan in a triple threat steel cage match, and just to ensure it wasn’t all luck we will go international and he can face a Sicilian in a battle of wits when death is on the line. If he make it through all of this I maybe sold he could win a couple college matches. Inconceivable!

As an analogy. Pretend that Sadulaev had never lost to Snyder, but at the 2020 individual world cup they met and it was 0-0 after regular time. The officials begin reviewing something and the judges give a mystery point that hands Sad the match. Sad barely wins Russian Nationals, has a 1-0 final win. Then Snyder faces Sad just before the games again at Aliev and Sad wins with a single caution point. That was Karelin's situation going into those Olympics. If this forum had been around then and the information available. A decent of amount of people would have predicted something other than Gold for Karelin. With predictions that Rulon would beat him as rare as the people predicting that Coon would win gold at Tokyo.

    Starocci

So, to summarize: Luke Pletcher makes a huge jump, signaled by some good Freestyle wins in the offseason. Starocci, one of two people who can be a five timer, beats a guy who went 2-1-1-1 at NCAAs, Evan Wick and Chance Marsteller on the same weekend. He went from beating Marsteller 4-2 to a 7-0 shutout, after spending a summer training with multiple 2021 Olympic medalists. But, no, he’s already run out of talent, progression or both.
