You might be onto something. Decision losses for silver medals this week and back to back finals in the the Olympics and World Championships clearly signify a problem with their training situations. A move to Oregon State or maybe Clarion may produce a more desirable product.

Is JB now the American GOAT?

Add in Soviet breakup and the fewer weights ... I'm comfortable with believing JB having to go through much harder competition ... that offsets that Olympic Gold margin vs World gold. Plus, JB has earned 9 medals to 6 for Smith. I get your point Shaka, simply a difference of opinion.

    Bouzakis to Ohio State

A Ferrari with go cart tires that's one of 3 programs to win a title since 2008, won 3 Big 10 titles over historically dominant Penn State teams, scored the most points ever as runner up, and averaged ~90 points a year at NCAA's over a 10 year stretch? I'd say it was more like F1 Ferrari trying to chase down Mercedes. I'm not being willfully ignorant, I'm well aware of where they've struggled, what their deficiencies are. They're far from perfect, but they're still quite good. Obviously no one is thrilled with Decatur's development. I'm not going to speculate what the issues are, but he came in with zero scholarship $, if that gives you any indication of what their commitment was. If you want to parrot the same Tomasello and Martin takes because they both won unlikely titles as freshmen, be my guest. You're only telling on yourself, as it's completely lacking in nuance. Willfully lacking, you might even say.

    Snyder/Sad Strategy Predictions

When Kyle was winning Golds, he was the relentless one. He gave zero $#!†s about the accomplishments of his opponents while out pacing them until they slowed down enough for him to attack their legs or push them out. It wasn't slick or pretty. It didn't appear to be a thoughtful strategy, but he was eventually going to run them over. Sadulaev isn't those guys Snyder beat in 2015. Based on recent performances, I doubt there's a strategy that will beat him. I would like to see Snyder wrestle like he has nothing to lose again. But, when Sad comes out pulling his head down and forcing KS to stay in his reach, I'm not sure that KS has an answer. I probably agree with @HawkY, all KS can do is get back to what he does well.

psu fans being dumb is a whole other thing lol. we are in agreement that he's the same guy before or after. i think he peaked a couple years ago. unfortunately, he'll be grossly under-appreciated because of sadulaev. if not for him, he might have ended up having an argument for goat himself. i don't think he's going to make anymore huge gains regardless of his training situation.

I'm not dogging them at all. But those guys were already world medalists before they got there. Gilman definitely appears better. But, I don't see how Cael is responsible for US success.

Is JB now the American GOAT?

Smith had six gold in six consecutive World/Olympics (with 2 of them being Olympic gold). There is something to be said for going six for six (especially when compared to six gold in 10 tries). Secondly, JB can't pass Smith unless and until he gets the second Olympic gold. Olympic gold is significantly greater/more valuable than World gold.

TMS is going to win gold, Adeline has a great chance to win her 6th. Between Sarah and Remina in the 50kg final, Sarah should win. Remina is Japan's #3 behind Yui Susaki and Yuki Irie. Irie chose not to compete in the National tournaments after she lost to Susaki for the Olympic spot. I thought Hemmer would do a lot better in the 55kg Final because she was wrestling really well, but Sakurai really picked her apart.

Just listened to today's FRL - had a snippet from J'Den Cox's interview post his loss. J'Den saying that he needs to have more offense in his match. Get attacks off earlier. WTF!!!! I'm SICK AND TIRED OF THIS ASININE 'LEARNING' ... NO FREAKING CRAP!! J'Den isn't the only one to use this line, he is just the most recent. IT IS NO LONGER ALLOWED. NO MORE! YOU FREAKING KNOW YOU NEED TO DO IT BEFORE YOU GET ON THE MAT... Next time say - I know what I'm supposed to do but for some stupid reason I am unable to do it. I need to figure out why I am so freaking afraid of taking risk earlier in the match. I apparently have no faith in my own abilities. I have a mental block that needs remediation. Again, I'm using J'Den as an example here. I've heard plenty of others do it. Including Gilman. Guess what ... Gilman has actually done something about it. All you other guys that want to compete for the US ... the lesson has been learned by many others before you. And some of them fixed it! YOU are not so stupid, so thick, so unable to comprehend that you can actually pretend that this is something that you haven't already known or figured out. It is NOW OFF LIMITS AS A LEARNING. OFF LIMITS!!

Is JB now the American GOAT?

Ok, John Smith won 6 in a row. Nobody else in the USA has done that. Period. Bruce had a longer career and won lots. Bruce B has 2 olympic Gold, 3 WC gold, Olympic Silver and Bronze, and 3 WC Silver and 3 WC Bronze. Yet no one counts him as GOAT because Smith did 6 in a row. JB is a legend. But his loss at the Olympics blew his chance to equal Smith IMHO. mspart

    Iran is on fire

It's not really as drastic as it looks. Yazdani was beating DT 3-2 until the TD in the last 10 seconds in Tokyo so it was obvious on his day he could win. Ghasempour hasn't had the chance to attend many international tournaments since he has been stuck behind Yazdani at 86kg but Iranians always knew he was excellent. Zare beat Geno before the Olympics and was dominating Geno in Tokyo in the first period until he uncharacteristically gassed and Geno took over. The other medals are mostly because of weak weights and lucky draws, although it was a very young team for Iran with multiple 2021 Junior champions, so they did very well but lost when we expected them to.

LOL! Yeah, it was discouraging to see two of our studs get broke. I, too, find the "jump ship" suggestions amusing. I guess the surprise of KS heading to NLWC keeps some of us guessing, but I can't imagine these guys moving their livelihoods away from something pretty ideal just because they got beat by the best guys in the world.

The Russian was formidable and very physical - bossed Helen around for an early push out, but Helen soon capitalized, kept her feet moving laterally, creating better angles and was constant with her variety of attacks. The Russian was clearly frustrated. Helen had that eager look in her eye. Nanjo looked very fluid against her seasoned Bulgarian opponent, taking single-legs at will mostly sweeps. The Bulgarian scored some counter exposure, and positioned pretty well to score more, but Nanjo was patient and savvy. She also took some scolding from the ref for not trying to score from parterre - she knew the flat-footed rigidity of the Bulgarian was what she wanted to get her points from. Helen - Nanjo will be a great match. Helen's foot speed and counter attacks should serve her well. Both have great lateral movement, so I'm expecting some flurries and exciting sequences!

Is JB now the American GOAT?

I remember Tsargush , he was mediocre wrestler who cant compete Saitiev and Murtuzaliev when they were rivals for each other. He was 3 d in his weight. JB lost all his matches to Sidakov who didnt even recognized himself as all time best calibre, Kyle Snyder himself have 1 victory over guy who have big chances to all time great , he met Gatsalov and other big guns. and if you bring here competition lvl argument - Snyder is higher than Burroughs. dont want to be cocky here but in Russia most people who watches wrestling recognized JB as very limited who was lucky enough to not meet really great wrestler during his career- 74 was poor for talients then At other hand you have JS who doimnated his era and have 2 olimpic golds he was very technical guy with his own unorthodox style - just as DT which is awesome too and who also met better competition than JB and beat Yazdani 3 times in a row. I mean it is not my buisness to call who is best but make arguments fair for all wrestlers if you selecting one of them

At 62kg yesterday, I really think that if Japan's rep(Nonoka Ozaki) beat Tynybekova, then she goes on to win. Tynybekova barely beat her right when time expired. Ozaki came back through repechage and teched her opponent in the 3rd place match. It's going to be real interesting when the time comes for Japan's National tournament in Dec because if Yukako Kawai enters, she's going to be facing Ozaki for sure.

Is JB now the American GOAT?

Remember, there were 10 weights when Smith won his 2 Olympic gold's and one of his golds he lost a match. With today's rules he would have been wrestling for bronze (maybe not even that as the guy he lost to lost). JBs Olympic gold was with 7 weights. Factor in the USSR v Russia argument, as well. Smith had a 6 year senior career (including his first Goodwill Games). JB has a 10 year senior career and is still going.

To be fair I think burroughs got two titles with 1 point Tds, but the point stands. With the pushout thing, Smith was way harder to underhook than JB, or at least way more dangerous too sense he had duck unders on both sides from there. Also, as far as being grounded goes, Smith was one of the few who could drop his butt straight down to mat and put it right between his heels....thats a hard guy to push out.

    Snyder/Sad Strategy Predictions

Nice Spin...you should go into Politics. LMFAO. Also he did not have 13 losses...he had 11. His 2 losses to Gatsalov and Rattigan came before he even enrolled at tOSU when he was 17 and 18 years old...or are we going by when he verballed to Ohio State as the cut off? LOL. His freestyle records after enrolling at Ohio State and after the move to NLWC are almost the same at 90.2% and 91.2%. And that's after considering many of his early losses at Ohio State came while he was still in college in his early 20's. On the other hand he was already a well seasoned Olympic and World Champion concentrating solely on freestyle in his prime after transferring to NLWC and already considered at one time the greatest wrestler on the planet. Apples and oranges much? Still waiting for that objective evidence...

Clearly the best program over the past decade. But I do not see how it has taken the " USA to rare heights." Is DT the only PSU world medalist? This is despite the fact that Verkleeren, Zain and Mark Hall have age group golds. "But the NLWC had four Olympic medalists!" Well, Gilman and Snyder both had world medals prior to NLWC. I will admit that Gilman looks much improved... but no one was saying that when he was losing to Zach Sanders. and Seth Gross within the last year. NLWC is doing great, but I wouldn't put it all the USA success on Cael.

eventually it might have to settle in on here that no matter what kyle does, it's going to take sadulaev wrestling a bad match for him to win again. sometimes guys are just better. obviously kyle can't and doesn't think this way, but as fans it's a little harsh to to blame a training situation for not beating the goat. i feel gross for defending nlwc lol

JB is rare among wrestlers in that he thinks, A LOT, about everything. What's more, is he's willing to talk about it and let people know what he's thinking about. In doing so, there were a few years there where from the outside it didn't seem like he was all-in, with talk of what's next, should he hang it up, can he still be the best, etc. Listening to him today, I don't get that sense at all, which might worry me a little bit if I was Kyle Dake. Granted, by the time those trials roll around JB will be nearly 36 and Dake will just be hitting cadet eligibility.

Wrestlers in Business Network recently launched a career center website where wrestlers can search for and apply for jobs/internships. This website looks/feels like other job search websites with one exception: the companies advertising their openings are specifically looking for wrestlers. The website can be found at: https://careers.wrestlersinbusiness.org/ This is 100% free and is available for anyone with a connection to wrestling: wrestlers, former wrestlers, coaches, parents of wrestlers, etc. In addition to the job/internship search capability, there are also free services to include: resume review, career counseling, career exploration, and interview tips. This website has been a goal of Wrestlers in Business Network for a few years and we are super excited to finally launch. Wrestlers in Business Network (WIBN) is a non-profit organization consisting of 24 Chapters across the country. We have a goal to expand to new Chapters and are actively on-boarding. The goal of Wrestlers in Business Network is to help wrestlers find career and business opportunities. Our motto is “Buy From, Sell To, and Hire Wrestlers”. Decatur is really the ONLY guy you can MAYBE put mat issues on tOSU themselves. Ech came in almost solely Freestyle centric. Any issue with mat wrestling started way before tOSU and would make it very hard for any DI coach to magically develop. Still Decatur was actually the ONLY starter on last year's team at B1G's and with rumors of Ech going down to 133, only 1 of them is likely to start again this season. So, I would say 1 out of 10 doesn't really count as a trend. By definition, it would actually be more of an outlier, wouldn't it?
