    Bo Bassett an Iowa lock?

I'm chuckling more at all the folks here that have the inside track on where this 8th grader that they don't know is going to college.

Official as per Flowrestling. Gable Stevenson says he would be willing to face Zare. Don't know if WWE will allow it though. But you could have an epic card. I would actually like to go against the grain a bit and do more unconventional matches and do Burroughs Vs Yazdani at 86 or cactchweight. Instead of Taylor vs Yazdani 5. Have Ghasempour face Taylor instead. Zare vs Gable would be sweet to see who deserves the crown. Mohammadian vs Cox at 97? Obviously the more obvious choices are rematches in Taylor and Yaz and Cox and Ghasempour. Either way it is exciting. But I think having Burroughs vs Yazdani is a superfight and then some and a big draw. More than Yaz and Taylor.

    Suriano to PSU

The bet, as laid out, actually says the opposite. For nhs to win, Lee has to be undefeated against Suriano and outplace Suriano at NCAAs. All Antitroll has to have happen is a Suriano win OR Suriano outplacing Lee.

His social media posts have hinted at him being on a mission /vision quest thing so I’d imagine if he’s coming back it’s to stop Spencer from being a 4xer , so even if hate suriano you got to appreciate any guy who ll put it on the line to try to beat one of the best to do it

Imagine Ghasempour VS Taylor at 86 and Yazdani VS Snyder at 97...? Yes please.

You have to be kidding ... nobody! Cael was constant fluid motion in all positions. Even against the best with all the constant wrestling going on you'd look up and couldn't believe he already had 4 to 5 min of riding time.

Spencer Lee has no ACLs. He can compete, but he is clearly impaired. I have no problem with Brands sitting him out for duals and saving him for B1Gs and NCAAs. Doing so is not only a sign of respect for Suriano but also for Lee. Lee gets to decide what he wants to do with his knee. But Brand gets to decide how much Lee can compete and when. He should sit Lee against any opponent he thinks might end Lee's season prematurely until the big tournaments that count the most.

If its an injury that would prompt them to avoid wrestling any opponent, thats not ducking. Thats being legitimately hurt. But most wrestlers have some small issue here and there. If they are choosing not to wrestle an elite opponent because they have a minor injury, whereas they would have otherwise wrestled a lower quality opponent. That qualifies as ducking to me.

How about Yianni at 65kg? Cornell has a non-Ivy match that day (Binghamton), but does he take a break from folkstyle to prepare for this match? The weekend prior is a grudge match against Princeton, and he isn't going to miss that.

In the interview, Rich Bender said he's expecting USA's #1 at each weight class. He said Iran should be bringing their # 1's as well. My big question is how much Iran is committed to this? Will they back out due to whatever at some point? My other question is does Daton Fix wrestle for USA or OSU, or both?

    Yianni - 2021 worlds

That's not right. I may be forgetting a match but: 2021 WTT: Yianni 2, Joey 1 2021 Poland Open: Yianni 1 3-1. What else was there this year? I believe the one before that wsa the prior year at Senior Nationals, when Joey beat Yianni. But I will say that even if you include that one, the Yianni wins have been a lot more lopsided (wiht two techs) than the Joey wins, which have all been narrow. I think it's clear who is better at this point.

    Yianni - 2021 worlds

No your breakdown is spot on. And absolutely aligns with my position. "Johnny is neck and neck with the top guys, however, as long as he has the distraction of folk-style wrestling he will not outgain his competition of similar age and talent prior to next Olympics" Of course he is continually tweaking everything about his style (to better his FS results). You referenced the noticeable gains he has made, 2 years away from folkstyle training for the Olympics specifically. I agree, 2 more years of this trajectory and he could medal. I also believe however. No matter how much freestyle you practice in the room, a full NCAA season hinders your progress, especially when the weight is tough and you're going to have to wrestling more folk heavy positions. KS had the fortune of being heavier, where in Folk or Freestyle, it's "Can you get a basic takedown repeatedly". For every stride Johnny makes, practicing diving through and grabbing ankles, and everything that makes him fun to watch in college, kind of hinders his development. So Yes, I do not think he makes enough progress by 2024 to medal. Yes, I think when he commits to only freestyle like he has the last 2 years, and gains experience, we will see those 50/50 match turn to 60/40 and 70/30.... if he hangs around until 2028 he could be one of the best 65kg guys we've ever had.

    Yianni - 2021 worlds

The Chamizo thing was just busting balls. That has nothing to do with anything we're talking about, so I deleted it but you caught my post before the edit! I think "Little Frankie" is done, man. I was with you that he was one of the very best. But he has peaked and is in decline now. I do think folkstyle reinforces Yianni's bad habits. We 100% agree on that. However, I think Yianni is wrestling through the folkstyle season in anticipation of the next freestyle season. You can see it in his comments (he recently made a reluctant comment to the effect of "well, back to folkstyle, it needed to happen..."). I expect to see him use this folkstyle season as a way to sharpen the adjustments he's made. More like Snyder at tOSU than Yianni trying to establish himself in his first two years. We'll see.

    Yianni - 2021 worlds

You are too rigid. That's now what I said would happen 100% of the time. We're not arguing in a vacuum. We have a lot of wrestling to observe and make an opinion. Your opinion vascillates between "Yianni can win a medal if he focuses on freestyle" to "he can't because he's as old as the likes of Otoguro and already focused on freestyle for two years and whiffed." Do you even have a position? I'm not trying to be a dik, I just don't get where you stand. Either is fine, but to snidely keep calling out me and others who might disagree with you on this thread is disingenuous when you don't even have a consistent position yourself. Let's say Otouro is 70% of the way to his peak genetic potential. He's only 22, and he's not that active. I'd say he's minimally active to stay relevant at the world level, in fact. He has a very fundamental style and is obviously a master of freestyle. Translation: He has upside yet, but he is already at a very high level. Where I see Yianni: He is nowhere nearly as consistent as Otoguro and his style is nowhere near as locked in or successful. Yianni lived off of scrambles and making guys pay in the crackdown position. That used to be like 90% of his offense against guys he couldn't bumrush into submission. He then added misdirection shots (although almost always faking right and going left, a hole he has begun to fill) and reshots somewhat successfully. He then started downblocking successfully and being more intelligent about when to push (i.e. not in 50/50 situations) and when to stalemate it out. These are very basic adjustments, and they started happening about two years ago and are still nowhere near complete. He has made progress with it--maybe not in winning every match yet, but nevertheless, visible progress against solid guys. Given these two assessments, who do you think is more likely to make more progress in the next 3-4 years? Maybe 100% of Yiannis is only as good as 60% of Otoguro. But my argument isn't that Yianni catches Otoguro. It's simply that he has a lot of upside yet and we are seeing a guy going through a stylistic transition. Even in his last few weeks since the Olympics, you can see that Dake has had a major influence on him and he is attempting to incorporate very similar movement in his own style. It's not working yet, but it's a new improvement he's trying to make. I view Yianni as the complete opposite of a guy like Metcalf in his approach. Metcalf tried to do what didn't work better. Yianni is making significant changes. Maybe they won't work against the elite guys. But he is definitely making gains.

    Yianni - 2021 worlds

If I’m not mistaken Otoguro and Yianni won cadet world together. (2015) Since then Oto has entered three world level senior tournaments, leaving as a world champ, world fifth, and Olympic champ. His gold medal performances: his world championship came with 50 total points scored in his semi final and final matches, his Olympic gold came with a combined score of 8-6 in those same two matches. He can win any way he needs to. Both competing in that same most talent deep weight in the world. in case anyone wants to see a true litmus test of our system vs the rest of the world.

Is it even that though? Suriano doesn’t get 4 titles if he beats Lee. It would certainly add to Suriano’s legacy and impact Lee’s negatively but it’s not like he gets to absorb Lee’s other accomplishments.
  28. 1 point
Wrong. If no one reminds you of Cael at all, then they all remind you equally of Cael. Therefore the answer would be everybody. And Spencer Lee reminds me of Santa Claus since he hands out back points like they are gifts.

I just haven't paid attention at all. I saw the rumors thread. Then I saw Patty Cakes tweeted he's already moved back or something. He'll go where he goes, but I'm always thinking international, and I value size, so 133 to come down and compete at 57kg seems more ideal to me. But maybe he has some Spencer Lee victory envisioned. Or maybe he's going elsewhere. I just had him locked in as a 33. (I'm out of the loop)

Just a guess but I would think Flo would dictate this lineup more so than USAW. They'll be the ones paying out for it. I doubt we see Taylor/Yazdani in this. I imagine at this point they're not going to want to square off when there's not a world title on the line. They're at the point where every match is going to be about what was learned from their last match....

Yeah, I think he's a level below most of the guys on the side he ended up on but he "could" upset any of them . I think you're right, he's slightly above probably everyone on the other side, but they "could" upset him... Basically the entire other-side was Joey McKenna.... You expect Yainni to win but if he drops 1 of 4 you wouldn't be surprised .

Is JB now the American GOAT?

This guy is a joke. JB edges Tsargush who is not great. But Sidikov edges Burroughs on step outs and is considered great.... He's gotten into the potato juice again /eyeroll. Just realized he has 25 posts and calls JB style "primitive" clearly a troll. Plz stop feeding.

His closest match might have been Marcus Schontune of Penn that he won 16-10 at the Midlands. I know Sanderson was down heading to the second period. He ended up winning 16-10 and that was one of only 4 times someone scored 10 points on him. The other three were tech falls.
