    HBCUs?

https://www.flowrestling.org/video/7181681-hbcu-wrestling-and-morgan-state-announce-new-wrestling-program "HBCUW will reestablish wrestling programs on HBCU campuses, starting with Morgan State University. Over the course of the next five years, HBCUW will launch wrestling programs and begin endowments at six HBCUs with the goal of expanding access to the opportunities created by wrestling for the Black community, expanding the Black community’s footprint and power within the sport, and investing in the critical institutions that HBCUs represent. " This is so awesome!!! I have told my Wife for years, that if I had ever won the lottery one of the first things I would do is endow the wrestling program at Howard University. Seems like someone else had a similar dream!! I wonder how they will pick the next 5 teams (Location, History, Support)? The coaching search for Morgan should be interesting!!

Marcus, You do the sport no favors when you spout off incorrect stats and figures as if they are gospel. I provided you the exact information you SHOULD be talking about when beating the Title IX drum. I want you to voice your opinion, but I also want you to do it from an educated stance - I disproved two of your claims in two minutes. Others can do the same when you bring that argument to the table. I'm glad being educated on an issue and having the factual information to back it up is considered "fancy." It seems you have a rounding error somewhere.

    What move/technique is this?

See the video below. It should be queued right before a takedown. Red then wraps his legs around blues arm and appears to be going for a pin? I am not sure I have seen this in the FS matches I have watched.

    What move/technique is this?

if i had to equate it to a specific move i would most likely call it a crucifix... but... it is just using what you can for an exposure... my oldest was at western regionals a few years ago and was up 8-0 on a kid... his opponent was not versed in free... dove in on a leg as if he was going to waste about 30 seconds praying for a stalemate like he was wrestling the stall fest... my son just rotated and hooked his outside arm with his leg and turned him easily for an exposure... kid's "coach" lost his damn mind because he did not understand free techniques any better than his wrestler... i just waited in the chair until he stopped making a fuss and we could shake hands and move on with our lives...

    Sadulaev Interview Post Worlds

Well I said this on another thread, but I think it was Flowrestling interviewing Dan Gable about Kyle’s match with Sads after the Olympics, and Gable’s response was that Kyle needs to take Sads into deep water early. I know that when I mentioned that, I got some push back by another poster who said that this is the only way Gable sees things, but it doesn’t make Gable wrong. I also wonder sometimes how much influence Kyle’s matches with Mohammadi and Sharifov have had on Kyle. I also wonder if that played a part in his matches with Goleij, and Sads at Oslo. Or was it just the strategy that they came up with for these World’s. Or was it just something Sads and Goleij were doing that prevented Kyle from scoring. I kind of think that Kyle can change things up a little and can add some things to his arsenal, but at the end of the day, he is what he is, and if he is a nothing more than a head snapping, mat gaining, remorseless attacking machine, then that’s what he needs to be.
  17. 1 point
From UWW: "I really wanted to win in Oslo, because five-time world champion sounds better than four-time champion." "Years of work pays off and thank God I won again. I always have tough matches with Snyder. I could barely get off the mat at the Olympics, today I was tired at the end, but everything went well." "In Tokyo, I immediately began to attack, but here in the first period I decided to see what he would do. I understood his tactics, and in the second period I did not let him take the lead." "I don't have any special tactic for the matches against Snyder. I know he is trying to wear me out. So I was trying to make him wrestle my way and not let him set his own rules. In the end, I noticed that he got more worn out than me." "Personally, I think [Snyder] was better prepared physically and mentally at the Olympics. I was more tired there. It was easier to win [for me] here." ___ Nothing too shocking, although I found the last sentence interesting. I expected Sadulaev might point to his knee injury as a reason for the closer match in Tokyo, but he pointed to Snyder being better prepared for that match instead.

It doesn’t take a whole lot. The scummier ADs will throw around giant endowment figures to scare people off. “We need $25M” - uh, that’s half your existing athletic budget, bozo. It takes a decent amount plus a welcoming administration.

    Another Greco Question (video)

new rule introduced this year is that the 3rd passivity does not et awarded a point... rule of thumb is that the last 30 seconds of a match the ref will let it ride unless the running is egregious and that would typically get called a caution and 2... my assumption is that the ref lost track of time in the match... it happens...

Taylor is: 1) 4 years older than Yazdani 2) just accomplished his life-long dream 3) has settled down and started a family 4) is running his own business I would be surprised if Taylor ever beats Yazdani again. He held on just long enough--and even then, only just.

    American System/Competitive Age

He wrestled while he attended college.. He was an exercise science professor when I talked to him at the Olympic trials in Indy. He lost to Ed Banach in the finals of the 84 Olympics and said Banach was a good wrestler, but substituted strength for technique. He loved Iranian wrestlers because "Their spirit for wrestling is the greatest in the world." Real nice guy. Stayed in the same trucker motel we did and split a shuttle to and from the venue many times.

Doubt there are many opportunities for former wrestlers in Russia. I will speculate wrestling chews up and spits out the indigestible portion of all but a couple dozen wrestlers per year in Russia. I think Japanese wrestlers fare better, based on the sample set of one Japanese former wrestler I had an extended conversation with.

    HBCUs?

The once proud athletics program is in shambles. The school is no longer competing in the PSAC or NCAA and is an independent with just THREE varsity sports left. If anyone is going to touch Cheyney, the entire school needs open heart surgery, a brain transplant and an injection of some serious money. The place has almost closed on numerous occasions. It's unfortunate because it's got such a great history and tradition. I grew up with Hampton and Norfolk State in my region and have long been an HBCU football fan - the Classics, and there's about 50 of them every week it seems - are true spectacles of sports and community. But Cheyney ... it's just a shell of itself. With the right situation, it could have been checking the boxes you've pointed out, but not anymore.

    Sadulaev Interview Post Worlds

Sadulaev is a great champion. Humble off the mat.

If we're assigning credit, basically none. She almost didn't make the team when she was at NLWC and got smashed at her tuneup. She quickly turned things around once she moved to Sunkist with Perry. Good work by Perry to undo the damage NLWC did.
  39. 1 point
I dunno man. For whatever reason, I'm just very anti "who gets credit" The people who deserve the credit seemingly never get it or ask for it. Like all our fans wanting to combined men's and women's to say "we won an overall title" I feel like it's generally just people wanting to feel more important than they are. Clearly it made a difference for Gilman, claim Gilman . But Snyder and Helen performing like they always do. I guess they did a good job of fulfilling expectations. But I'd give the credit to the person who built them up to their first titles. Jden Cox could go prepare in his garage for a month and come back and wrestle and medal again in the exact same bracket. May win it..... But that Garage WC doesnt get credit no matter how many people are fanboys.
  40. 1 point
Is the question, how much credit does the NLWC get for one of the most dominant female wrestlers we've had losing the match we expected her to lose at the Olympics and then winning an unexpectedly watered down worlds bracket? I guess as much as they want... But I think she would've been able to win regardless of the program she was a part of

This is a 1/3 real world championship

True. I'd never say it to their faces, but the great USA wrestlers back in the day only had to face one Russian to win WC/Olympics and now there are brackets with like 5 guys from Dagestan in them.

    NIL Issues in Happy Valley?

The idea that multiple wrestlers on one team are getting six figure deals makes no sense. Why offer 100K when you can get them for 10K (or 1K)? There are three reasons I can think of to offer someone a big NIL deal: 1. To keep them away from a competing business 2. Because you believe that you will make the money back in additional sales or marketing exposure 3. To funnel money to wrestlers on the team without caring if you make it back in sales The third one seems like something a compliance office could get antsy about, especially if it seems like the payment is not for work actually performed.

He may be a bit clownish, but to my knowledge he hasn't done anything nearly bad enough to warrant $100,000 bail being set... or even $100. I believe PD3 achieved that feat while still in high school.

    NIL Issues in Happy Valley?

I would be SHOCKED. Absolutely and completely blown away if a single wrestler in America - outside Gable because that is a multi-year professional deal with a NIL clause - signed a yearly deal approaching $25k. Much less multiple Penn State wrestlers signing $100,000+ deals. Your best wrestler would be lucky to get $2-5k a year. Nick Lee has been posting controversial opinions on Afghanistan and brands want no part of that. RBY has a decent following but nowhere near big enough for 6 figures. Starocci has less than 30k instagram followers. Brooks has less than 20k instagram followers. You think Max Dean and the Dean's family stance on vaccination is going to be valued in this environment? This is absurd.

Was the Morgan State coach the guy who used to wear the jacket or vest made out of tiger or leopard skin? I saw him coaching at a tournament in the late 70’s, and had to look twice to make sure I was really seeing that! There was some history/tradition associated with the jacket. He wore it well and was “styling” for sure!
