NIL Facts
IfYouAin'tFirstYou'reLast reacted to MizzouGrad for a post in a topic
After the NLWC chatter about kids getting 10's of thousands of dollars to wrestle at Penn st., we finally have some data. Drum roll please.... The average D1 athlete has made $391 on NIL with a whopping 70% going to football and men's basketball. Of all the NIL deals signed, wrestling is behind sports like women's soccer, softball, and track & field. Early results show NIL will have a negligible impact on the sport of wrestling at all levels and for all schools. Barring a Spencer Lee at Iowa, J'den Cox at Missouri, or Kyle Snyder at Ohio St., your average wrestler will probably never make enough to afford a hamburger. -
1 pointI'm hoping, with these results, that we can officially retire the "Echemendia is the next title contender" topic. The amount of hype surrounding this young man was nothing short of spectacular, and unfortunately, it does not appear that he will be able to live up to this amount of over-hype. Maybe his freestyle results will show a different story in the end, but in collegiate folk, he'll now be considered, maybe, as 2nd or 3rd best on the team. I'm looking forward to Decatur / D'Emilio. Interesting stylistic matchup. I'm looking forward to seeing if Paddy is the real deal vs. Hubbard, and how that match progresses. If it's close, I'll be concerned that 157 for the Buckeyes may be another question mark. If it's not close, then we'll know who the starter is, and will need to wait for additional competition to make the assessment. Schierl and Smith is a fascinating matchup. Fritz is a gamer, but so is Smith. Fun times in Buckeyeland figuring all this out.

Ezzatollah akbari. Yes. They have a strong team. Probably the strongest overall if you are talking about across all weights to be honest. Some pharmaceutical company. Also have Shabazi, Amir hossein Maghsoudi an otherw. Alireza Rezaei is the headcoach. Strong team my tip to win the whole thing. They are in action tomorrow -
1 pointnothing special in 2nd day of the league, no big name in these 4 teams in this group. but Masoumi's son had his debut in senior level (am I right?) he won 2 matches but lost 15-5 to Ali Akbarpour in battle of World Youth Champion vs World Junior Champion

It's possible that Gable's deal is not considered an "NIL" deal since it is based on his being employed as a contestant in WWE-- he is selling his services, not just his name, image and likeness. -

You know, up until this week, I've tried refraining from posting USAW front page stuff here because I thought they'd be obvious -- but as we saw in the Humphrey thread, I guess not, lol. -

1 pointJason, I don't think that using Google is asking to be "spoon fed." In general, searching for a story is an active strategy-- the opposite of spoon feeding. Also, you are wrong about Google. Google news searches pick up items posted an hour before or even less. That's not true of all items, of course, and veterans wrestling tournaments are not big news even for wrestling fans. But the fact that Google searches are not finding USAW stories even DAYS later probably does show a problem with the USAW site. Or maybe Google does not consider USAW to be a news source, which it is not (it's PR). So I guess at the end of the day we have a very small story that got no coverage. Had I not happened to see Reece's tweet, I would have missed it. None of this is a big deal. But it's also not cause to attack me as ignorant as many on this board (not you) have done.

It doesn’t take a whole lot. The scummier ADs will throw around giant endowment figures to scare people off. “We need $25M” - uh, that’s half your existing athletic budget, bozo. It takes a decent amount plus a welcoming administration. -

I heard he felt it was time. Some might say better late than never. Bad jokes aside, this is going to be a good thing for Michigan, long term. KJ is a great coach who is linked to some heavy success. -
1 pointMendez posted a pic of the two of them and congratulations. Mendez has said RTC and olympic aspirations are big to him. Mendez has spent a decent amount of time with KJ. Michigan has a three time world and olympic champ, six time world and olympic champ on staff, three Olympians and junior world champ on the roster. Two of those athletes are from northern indiana. This move has to elevate them in the Mendez sweepstakes.

Great hire, and out of nowhere seemingly. He's a very strong coach on an individual basis, has great rapport with the current cadet crop. I would have thought he might look for another head coaching opportunity, didn't envision him being on the block for something like this. -
