Here you go, Bronco. Your never-ending war against Stanford sports information can take a break for a week.

It doesn’t take a whole lot. The scummier ADs will throw around giant endowment figures to scare people off. “We need $25M” -
uh, that’s half your existing athletic budget, bozo.

It takes a decent amount plus a welcoming administration.

You know, up until this week, I've tried refraining from posting USAW front page stuff here because I thought they'd be obvious -- but as we saw in the Humphrey thread, I guess not, lol.

Fact remains, by going to the HOME PAGE of the site you are reading right now, you could have found that information you seek, on the date you sought it immediately.
That's a fail in your browsing habits. I can't explain it any simpler. That's the end of my input in this thread. Have a good week. Maybe sign up for a free daily wrestling newsletter that will give you all this stuff in your e-mail first thing in the morning and save you the hassle of perceived SEO fails by the site of which forum you actively participate.
My participation in this thread is now over. California schools have been wrestling for a month on the college mats, I can't wait for the rest of the season to get here.

    Wait. Wait. Wait.

You searched for a multiple-time All-American and multiple-time senior world team member who had hundreds of stories/press releases written about him on the web prior to this weekend for wrestling and you’re telling me you searched his name and the word “wrestling” and you mean you didn’t get the desired result?

it was my fourth result. too much effort to scroll that far down? The match was also the first video result from Flo when you clicked “News” which usually gives a user the most recent stories by news sites of the search.

I’m all for being critical when there should be a better process, but this ain’t it chief.

Google takes time to index. Go to the source. If you expect the internet to spoon feed you, wait a few more years. It’s pretty tough to have missed this even if you do the most basic of web crawls - google won’t answer everything the same day. Most heavy internet users should already know this.
But I guess if you can’t google something and a result doesn’t show from a story within the last 24 hours, the site is broken?

Don’t give up! You can do it!

Maybe the front page of the site of the forum you are reading?

TheMat, UWW, Flo … well, those are three of the biggest wrestling sites in the world.

IndianaMat, major news outlets retweeting the info on social platforms, my daily wrestling newsletter … if you were looking for it and didn’t see it, what do you actually look for on a daily basis?

I’m asking sincerely, since if people can’t find this easily, then maybe someone’s doing something wrong.

Cause it should have been impossible to not read the brothers line by most.

The once proud athletics program is in shambles. The school is no longer competing in the PSAC or NCAA and is an independent with just THREE varsity sports left. If anyone is going to touch Cheyney, the entire school needs open heart surgery, a brain transplant and an injection of some serious money. The place has almost closed on numerous occasions. It's unfortunate because it's got such a great history and tradition. I grew up with Hampton and Norfolk State in my region and have long been an HBCU football fan - the Classics, and there's about 50 of them every week it seems - are true spectacles of sports and community.
But Cheyney ... it's just a shell of itself. With the right situation, it could have been checking the boxes you've pointed out, but not anymore.

    Marcus,
You do the sport no favors when you spout off incorrect stats and figures as if they are gospel. I provided you the exact information you SHOULD be talking about when beating the Title IX drum. I want you to voice your opinion, but I also want you to do it from an educated stance - I disproved two of your claims in two minutes. Others can do the same when you bring that argument to the table.
I'm glad being educated on an issue and having the factual information to back it up is considered "fancy."
It seems you have a rounding error somewhere.

Oregon's admins have slowly raised the number from $8M back in 2006 to an absurd $75M.

Since I assume you mean Division I, here's the facts.

Men's Lacrosse has more programs at the end of the 2018-19 year than they did in 1982. (73-50). The percentage of schools sponsoring is also up two percent.
Men's Golf has 299 programs in 2018-19, they had 263 in 1982. The percentage of schools sponsoring is down 10 percent. In 1982, 263 of 276 D1 schools had men's golf. That number is now 299/351.

There have been significant losses in men's gymnastics, 59-15 (but at most, only 21% of Division I institutions sponsored the sport to begin with).
Swimming is almost always a target. Men's Swimming & Diving is down 50 programs, from 181 to 131.
So while Title IX played a prominent role in the decisions of departments and the NCAA and the law allowed Prong One (Proportionality) do most of the gutting in the mid-90s, if you're going to use sports as a crutch for your argument, use the right ones.

At the end of 1997 alone, NCAA wrestling teams dropped by 29. The second biggest drop came with a loss of 17 teams (all 3 NCAA divisions) in 1987. There was a rush of 20 teams that came on in 1996, but most of those were existing programs which reclassified from the NAIA (like the entire RMAC).

If you're looking at straight numbers:
    Fencing (down 22)
    Gymnastics (down 44)
    Rifle (down 31)
    Rowing (down 1)
    Skiing (down 9)
    Tennis (down 26)
    Volleyball (down 11)
    Water Polo (down 3)
    Wrestling (down 71)
Most HBCU's are so female-enrollment heavy WITH football, it'd be a disaster with them to try to add sports because they'd be so far out of compliance with all three prongs of gender equity even before getting the money for it.
