BTW, it appears that both Gable and Owings wore 4-stripe Onitsuka Tigers. (Onitsuka was the forerunner of ASICS.)

Robin Reed, who many wrestling historians consider one of the greatest amateurs ever, would garner 7 points for his 1924 Olympic Gold.  This would place him tied with Cejuda on the list, a point behind Dlagnev, and only one point ahead of Gilman.  Way too low, IMO.  But, I realize the difficulty in comparing wrestlers from different eras.

Perhaps, in addition to (pre-NCAA)  AAU titles, points should be awarded for induction into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (NWHOF).  After all, Reed's NWHOF bio states he was inducted "in recognition of his stature as one of the most dominant athletes the world has ever seen."

John Smith wasn't just quick.  He was also STRONG.  Back almost 20 years ago, I aked an an OSU upperweight if John Smith was strong or if he just knew how to use leverage, etc.  He  told me that "When coach Smith  puts his hand on you, it feels like a heavyweights hand."

This video looks like a 5th generation copy of the VHS tape I have (the original). Interesting that 2 days before the tournament began LeeRoy Smith dislocated his shoulder while slipping in the shower, so Randy hustled into Edmonton, somehow made the weight, and actually had his hand raised after the match, only to have the match overturned during their backroom video review. This happened so often with FILA; so much better today, but I can think of at least 5 Americans denied their opportunity to win Gold because a bout was overturned after everyone left the gym.

These may have been on here and I missed em, but first time I've seen these matches.  Parts of both are almost hard to watch, very brutal.  Koll about passes out in match one at 3:25, and I've never seen such a painful leglace at the end.

Then at 4:50 in the second, the keylock.

Appreciate your kind remarks very much.  He had a great run and we gave him a great send off.  Have a look on Youtube - "Remembering Mike Milkovich"  my nieces did an incredible job of putting together that video in a very short and hectic 4 days.  Thanks again.

If I'm Zahid, I want Martin.   He's got 1 NCAA champ on his list of NCAA finals wins over NCAA champs and adding Martin to it would be appealing to me.     If there was a way to match up against a 3rd NCAA champ in the final for his senior year, I'd be looking to pull that off.       And I don't mean beating guys who would one day win an NCAA title, I mean beating guys who are already NCAA champs.

My old teammates have informed me that 3x World Champion Frank Andersson has passed on.  He was the Bad Boy of wrestling in his era, known for spectacular throws, heavy partying, womanizing all over the planet.  Just after a meet, he could be found in a disco, holding a beer, smoking a cigarette, three or four women on his arms.  It wasn't uncommon back in the day for him to show up at a local meet for weigh-ins wearing leather pants, a boom box on his shoulder, reeking of booze, that movie star smile on his face.  He drove the Swedish national coaches crazy, but he was one of those guys you couldn't help but like no matter how much you tried to hate him.  RIP, champ.   https://www.expressen.se/noje/frank-andersson-ar-dod/

Pat, I just read of your Father's passing.  What a life that man lived!  96.  Such a blessing to have all these years with your Dad.  I lost mine about 20 years ago.  Still think of him daily.  Just sending my heartfelt condolences.  Hang in there Pat.
