This is way more common than you guys think.  Foreign teams come in and train all the time.  Guys train together to get different looks, see what they can do against bigger/smaller guys, learn some things, and just to get more motivation to train.  I know when I knew a foreign team was coming in January, I was training my ass off over Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I cant count how many hundreds of times I wrestled with foreigners and my teammates did.  No one cared.  I always had a house with an extra room and any guys knew if they wanted to come train, they could come stay free of charge and they always took me up on it.

People are asking how it gets paid for.  Usually the NGB of that country will pay for the guys to come out and stay.  If its a one off and it isnt officially approved and scheduled by the NGB, which happens often (and they dont care at all), then they dudes club or he will just pay for it.  When that happens, usually whoever they are paying with will set them up with a place to stay and transportation.

Its very easy to do.  Logistically, it was easier for 2-3 guys from Japan to come out and train for 3 weeks than it was to get my Aunt out to San Diego from New Jersey.

From all accounts, Akgul is a pretty cool guy on top of being one of the best pound for pound wrestlers in the world.  While Snyder faces the possibility of injury (just as he does training with Gwiz or Dglanev), you have far less chance of being injured wrestling a great wrestler who understands the game than an inexperienced guy who doesn't know how or when to break a hold or pull a punch.  The sport only grows when great wrestlers share knowledge and then pass down that knowledge to others.  Good for the sport and two great ambassadors for the game.

    Here's how I see it:

57kg - Uguev -- Russia is surprisingly weak at 57kg at the moment.  Uguev is solid but very beatable, and there doesn't seem to be an heir apparent sitting in wait to replace him.  His ceiling is Bronze IMO.
    61kg - Rashidov -- It's his weight to lose.
65kg - Bekbulatov -- Maybe the most accomplished wrestler alive without a world medal?  Whoever the rep is here should medal--nationals should be interesting.  Watch out for Chakaev.
70kg - Ramanov or Kurbanaliev -- Either would be the favorite.
74kg - Tsabalov -- I have a hunch Tsabalov loses at nationals... he hasn't been far ahead of the pack domestically at 74kg and he looked off at Euro's.  Usmanov is interesting... maybe Sidakov or Zaseev down at 74kg can make a leap.
79kg - Gadzhimagomedov -- Clear favorite... hasn't lost a single match at 79kg to my knowledge.  R. Valiev could push him but I don't see an upset at nationals.
86kg - Naifonov -- Seems clear the Federation believes Naifonov is the guy.  Wouldn't be shocked to see V. Valiev again.  Either probably ends up with Bronze.
92kg -  Urishev / Sadulaev -- I know what the reports are and what Sadulaev said.  Still doesn't make sense to me.  Urishev isn't a lock for the spot if Sadulaev is at 97kg.  Look out for the kid Tsakulov.
97kg - Baitcaev / Sadulaev -- Both would be favored to make the finals, depending on brackets.  Baitcaev pushed Sadulaev to the limit last year, and closed the gap massively on Snyder between their last two meetings.  This is not a foregone conclusion as Sadulaev's weight... Baitcaev will also have to fight the crowd and officials, though.
125kg - Makhov -- Bronze medal, we just need Gwiz to avoid him.

Man, I hope you guys are just trolling.

After beating Chamizo, JB shook hands, embraced, and looked like he said some complimentary words.  Did you see the video?  Not sure what else you want.

As for Iran, its hard to think of any current US wrestler who has been more complimentary of Iran or their fans, or vice-versa -- a mutual affection that seems to have started with the 2012 post-Olympic embrace of Goudarzi and JB.

As for the World Cup gift, immediately afterwards JB posted on Twitter:  "Iran thank you for honoring our family with a gift before the dual! "   See https://twitter.com/alliseeisgold/status/742167279979352064?lang=en
Then the joke:  "@FloWrestling Turns out the gift from Iran last night was actually a present from Yazdani. He wanted to thank me for not wrestling in LA. "  See https://twitter.com/alliseeisgold/status/742488260371435529?lang=en

Unless you have absolutely zero sense of humor, there is nothing remotely disrespectful there.

JB doesn't hide his confidence -- and yes, on the mat he can sometime push the envelope with his handfighting -- but overall he is a model sportsman, and a great ambassador for the sport and the U.S.

Exactly. I have absolutely never seen Dieringer’s leg attack offense shutdown, much less completely shut down. I don’t think he touched his leg in two matches. Something about zahid’s positioning, His legs always look like they are like 20 feet away from his opponent. And then He strikes with a perfectly timed sneaky shot out of nowhere. Extremely impressive.

Did Snyder really surprise us when he took out Varner?  He had already won Junior Worlds a couple years before, wrestled Gatsalov competitively as an 18 year old and Varner was coming from three years off competition.  I think it was only surprising given Snyder's disappointing NCAA tournament performance, but in a nutshell his freestyle resume and skills made it a pretty even match up that Snyder proved wasn't (he won 4-1, 3-0).

I agree that on paper Valencia isn't at the level of Ringer or Dake, but his length combined with his leg attacks could make for a very intriguing match up.  I think his skills translate to freestyle very well, in fact better than folk and he just dominated this past season.  He would have to wrestle like he did in the finals against Hall, not like he did against other top competitors like Amine in the semis, Jordan earlier in the year, etc to keep it competitive with Ringer.  But if he competes like that then I wouldn't be completely shocked by an upset.  I'm picked Ringer though.

I would love to see Hall against Ringer and Dake in freestyle, assume it wouldn't even be competitive in folkstyle.  Why do you doubt Ringer beats him?  Alex has some pretty solid international wins and currently ranks 4th in the world (which obviously means less than actually medalling at Worlds).  Hall has dominated Jr Worlds which depending on the weight/year ranks as one of the toughest tournaments in the world, but I'm not aware of a senior level medal threat that he has beaten yet.  I think Ringer beats him comfortably at this point but Hall has insane freestyle acumen so it could be more competitive than my intuition.  And it could get ugly against Dake.  Valencia is more intriguing to me against both of them, though I'd expect him to lose, because of his length/size with both of those frontrunners moving up in weight.

Got into a heated argument with a friend about favorite flavor of Gatorade. I say lemon-lime, he says Frost Glacier Freeze. He says every sports drink since Gatorade's introduction has lemon-lime. Says Glacier Freeze is an exclusive. I think Lemon Lime is the essence of sports drinks. Not flashy. just thirst quenching and re-hydrating. Shows what doing the basics well get you. I think they both quench thirst and re-hydrate effectively. Glacier Freeze is a niche and Lemon-lime is the masses.

Ever since Delfino left we haven't had many reliable Farsi speakers, so I'm glad DF is starting to learn the language.
