don't conflate the NWCA and the NCAA wanting a duals championship with
'the majority of coaches' and/or 'what's best for the athletes'
as the same thing.

58 minutes ago, VakAttack said:This is fallacious. Upsets are much more likely in duals than in tournaments.
haha. told ya.
-
23 minutes ago, 1032004 said:How do you know no one serious wants a dual championship to decide team champ? Apparently the majority of coaches wanted it in 2012.
that's false.

let me ask this question (and i'm not being rhetorical)
you guys think that the reason ncaa's is the most wild, well attended wrestling event on earth is not because it's the most exciting, but because it has the ncaa title attached to it?
as in, if you had a national duals at the end of the year and slapped an ncaa title on to it, you honestly believe that the excitement, attendance, press, fanfare, and coverage would be equal to or greater than what we have now?

the arena was perfect for the size of competition.
as far as capacity...doesn't matter .... it wasn't close to filled.

then i direct you back to option 1)
look at the scoreboard

you're completely lying.
at the heart of the issue - for every single person that wants duals to determine the champion - is that fluke stuff can happen in duals and thus more 'surprises'.
in bracketed individuals, a fluke can happen and that guy can still mitigate it by coming back for 3 or 5th or whatever.
i'm done arguing about it. it's never gonna happen and for good reason.
i really look forward to the same thread popping up in 350ish days

18 minutes ago, Plasmodium said:Difficult for an entirely different reason. If Michigan State has a narrow lead over CSUB heading into the championship matches of an NCAA tournament, 90% of fans wouldn't independently know when the tournament is decided. 100% would know when the BB is decided.
that's not true.
1) you can look at the scoreboard
2) it's 4 for a win + bonus. it's not difficult.

so what?
ive done nothing in my life but follow wrestling and even i am uncertain at times of advance pts etc.
know what i do when that occurs?
i look at the scoreboard.
-
oh ffs, now you're telling me what i like and don't like.
the salient point is this - the team score is not a barrier to following ncaa wrestling. it's literally on a huge giant freakin screen at all times.
using team score as a point of emphasis to change the most successful wrestling event on god's green earth is beyond disingenuous

1 minute ago, VakAttack said:Is there some big contingent out there that love how the world tournament is scored? Barely anybody cares at all about the team score at Worlds.
c'mon vak. you know precisely why i brought it up - as a rebuttal to jason.
also -
that's your opinion. i love the team race at worlds.
-
lol. good point.
there is an enormous scoreboard with team standings.
tallying team scores is not a freakin issue.
-
-
b/c Worlds is extremely difficult to deduce team scores in progress and is also the pinnacle of the style

Dardanes had to?
he was the 6 seed who lost in the 2nd round. you realize part of the equation is he himself not carrying his seed.

The way we score our greatest event ... is freaking stupid.
There's a reason I announce how many points each win is worth at the nationals. I shouldn't have to. It's our greatest event and that type of thing should be understood, just like how many points any scoring action is in (almost) any other sport.
now do Worlds

would be a full arena if held in the right part of the country.
five of those teams were in the same building in december.

On 3/29/2022 at 1:09 PM, VakAttack said:As to the general format, I would say, as somebody suggested above, the top 6-8 teams based on a ranking get in, similar to the current college football system.
and you think that is going to be more attended and watched than the individual NCAA tournament? based on what data/information/assumptions?
whose rankings?
didn't we already have something similar to this at a different time of year ?
-
On 3/29/2022 at 12:50 PM, 1032004 said:Haven't you said you wanted to have an official dual tournament but in December or something?
I don't think you need more than 8 teams. So it's 2 more matches. Going off of a ranking would probably be sufficient.
Yes, i did. what was proposed in this thread is replacing the current ncaa tournament. which is 1) stupid and 2) will never happen
-
any one of you geniuses want to tell me what a nationals of duals to end the season looks like?
how many teams get in?
-
It's not just familiar and convenient; it's more sensical, more attractive (regardless what anyone, on any message board says), and more insulated from fluke stuff.
-
Didn't see Vak whine last year when Iowa clinched before Day 2 ended lol
-
i should just write an article on why: 1) duals as an arbiter is a farce 2) why the national duals format (the previous incarnation) was stupid and untenable and 3) Cael didn't kill the national duals
and have the mods pin the link.
that way you crybabies and revisionists wouldn't have to whine and post lies every year.

what do you mean 3k people?
The lack of importance of the team scoring again put on front Street today
