I mean sure, if you want to call a 2-1 win a smashing.  Zahid scored off a missed throw by Bo, that’s it.  It was a very even match.

This match was also 4 years ago so I don’t think it means a lot.  Junior silver is not the same as U23 Gold and Dieringer is not as good of a win as Tcakulov.
I think Valencia could potentially win in 2020/2021, but this post paints an inaccurate picture IMO.
Bo would be the favorite to place higher in a tournament.

It’s an intriguing matchup in some ways, but Dake is too powerful currently.

Of course most would have said the same thing about Imar 5 years ago.
Agree with the others, Nolf has to beat guys like Imar, Green and Deakin in freestyle before thinking he’s near Dake or Burroughs level.
Besides 57 kg, I think this is the next most intriguing weight class domestically.

That’s a good group, but man does it pale in comparison to the best of the 2010s.

Yep.  That would be crazy if he does.  Taylor / Nickal has nearly (especially in State College, maybe more) as much buzz as Cox / Snyder and Burroughs / Dake.

Yes. Winning the Pan American Games at 79 keggers won him entry.  Same as Shnaulty winning 70 keggers earning him a spot.

Yes I already said Dake and Yianni should be in there if JO and Gilman are.

Fleeger missed the first half of that season, and then defaulted at big tens which is why he fell to 5th seed at NCAA’s. And Mack Reiter was a 3X all American while being hurt the other year.  It’s not like he was some slouch.
Also, I like the cheap shot at 2X champ Valenti.  The guy was a monster, not your run of the mill “6 seed”.

Fleeger was a 2 time runner up 1x 3rd in his 3 years of competition.  Simmons is a good choice but I’d take Fleeger. 3x champ Abas, 2x champ Travis Lee and 2X Matt Valenti were his losses at nationals.

Yeah, just in that era alone for 125/133, Simmons is easily 3rd at best who never won a title.
    Agreed on Coon over Z.

Or even Megaludis or Garrett. I would definitely bet against the semi being Gross, Gilman, Fix and Lee.

Pletcher also best Yianni the last time they met.  141 does get tougher next year with Eirmann and possibly Rivera.

Even still, 133 will be a meat grinder for sure and yes Pletcher looked best he ever had this year at 141.

The Rome win was not the most dominant match in the series and it's not even close. What are you talking about. Both of Gilman's 2018 wins were more dominant as well as Fix's first win at Final X last year. The only matches closer were the Open and match 3 last year.

I'm not really involved in this convo, but your characterization of the Fix-Lee series is absurd. Lee was in control of both matches. Match 1, he had a 5-0 lead late, had dominated fix, and didn't close the match out properly giving up a hip tip for 2 off his shot in the closing seconds to lose on criteria (narrowly missing out on a final point due to time running out). The first exposure Fix scored was also really questionable, but again bad tactics by Lee taken advantage of by Fix. In match 2, he was once again in control with a 4-1 lead with a minute to go. He once again got too aggressive, tried to throw by an underhook. He got inside tripped into 2 laces for 8 points in the span of about 10 seconds. That was the only 10 seconds of the match where Fix was the better guy and he made it count. Lee closed the gap, but didn't have time to come all the way back.
Big time credit to Fix for making the most of his opportunities, especially after getting mauled by Lee the year prior, but saying that he "wrecked" Lee means you're either trying to be polemical or you're a simpleton (perhaps both?).

I mean I have?  Last time they both suited up Lee was 3rd place and Yianni was what 6th?  I don’t think Lee will destroy Yianni, I was just pointing out the fact that Yianni said he was going to wrestle hard for only 6 minutes when college matches are 7 minutes long, so it made little sense.

Not only does Lee pin Yianni, but Yisnni apologizes to Lee when they shake hands for not being worthy of sharing the mat with him.
Is that how it works? We just come here to say stupid stuff authoritatively?
