athletics is in hot water because they got caught covering up the positive tests or destroying samples they knew were positive. the number of positive tests doesn't have much correlation to the scandal, other than drawing attention that russia and turkey have significantly more positive tests than any other country.

they need to take the unforseen bit out of the rule. i don't care how it happens, if you are injured within 18 hours of weigh-ins you should have to get on the scale to be eligible for a special wrestle off. i don't even necessarily think you need to make weight, but get on the scale and show you were within striking distance when the injury prevented you from making it.

some of the thinking in this thread is way off and some is pretty close to the truth. i was in madison and heard most of the chatter as it was happening real time. i was close enough to most of the people that matter to hear what was being relayed to them. you make your own judgment from the timeline.

:15 minutes before weigh-ins they can't find hochstrasser who was rumored have been talked off the ledge earlier in the day during his weight cut, and marable isn't going to make weight

    both guys miss weigh-ins

a guy who is active on twitter heard the dr. discussion in the locker room to document the injury (this is the timeline that i heard it, obviously this happened before weigh-ins were over)

word leaks of marable being injured while passing out on the treadmill, all distributed by marable's camp

9:30 marable is seen in o'hare, not close enough to verify, but looks like he has a hospital bracelet on

for marable to be 17 over he couldn't have been within a pound if he went to the hospital in madison. i don't know where the doctor visit came into play so i won't pass judgment there. only marable knows the entire truth and he is the one to benefit by not telling the truth, so others will always be skeptical. i am not saying the story is impossible the way marable presented it, but the timeline and numbers are hard to believe.

the new rules put an emphasis on the aggressor being rewarded and getting rid of the dumb 3-2 exchanges where the offensive guy almost always exposes his back working for the attack. yes, he didn't stay locked and I am not even sure that's still in the rules, but reward the guy attacking. 4-0 schlatter.

From what I have seen all the wrestlers are great friends outside the room. No one else on campus understands the wrestlers, except the wrestlers.

I would like the 3pt takedown if they also changed it to 3pt reversals. Add value to the takedown, reversal, and nearfall while keeping the 1pt escape. I hate matches that the bottom guy hits a great move from the bottom for a reversal, his opponent gets an escape, escapes the next period and we are tied at 2. 3 pt reversal would reward the guy being aggressive from the bottom, and the result would be 3-2. Devaluing escapes and penalties to reward offensive scores such as takedowns, reversals and nearfall is a great idea.

The only time potentially dangerous should be called is when the defensive wrestler has no where to go. To many times its called when a guy is about to go to his back and he winces or when a guy is in on someones legs and the other guy dives back for the other wrestlers ankles putting his own knee in a weird situation. If it hurts that bad wouldnt you just roll to your back to avoid it?

bonus is way overvalued in college tournament scoring. a fall is the same as 2 championship side wins and 4 consi. this is the equivalent of a fall being worth 9 and 15 points in a dual, totally disproportioned. hs scoring of 2 and 1 on the advancement make it more reasonable to score a fall as 2 bonus points. I would really like to see bonus cut in half on the backside because you have an opportunity to wrestle more matches and the quality of the opponent is diminished. schopp ran off 7 wins in a row on the backside so he had 3 more chances to score bonus than the guys in the finals.

In case you want to watch the replay, you can click on the link below to watch it in farsi.  This was a great dual... again Jordan was a beast.  I don't care what anyone says, this guys is the most dominating wrestler I have ever seen.  Eversince he left college, he is 103-2 in tournament matches and one of those losses was to Nick Marable of all people.

I finally got to watch everything and hear the interviews from all parties. the explanation from the committee chairman was as bad is it gets when passing along blame. Andrassy said he asked if the score was right and the score sheet should have been examined at that time. most tables I saw this weekend had the computer scoring on track, a guy or two on paper scoring, then back up timers. the guy on the track system had to manually put the takedown in because the computer wouldn't allow the takedown to be scored without an escape going into the system. I was surprised the play-by-play at the table didn't mention the escape and call the score as it was happening too. so many chances for someone to catch it and it didn't happen, mind blowing. the score does not have to be challenged and Andrassy was told it was right. he met his obligation. the broken record comments about the challenge really bother me.

the committee had a chance to make it right and they didn't do it.  caught at the mat I would say you go into bad time at the :20 mark when the scoring error occurred. because they didn't catch their error when questioned I think you re-wrestle the bout. I have hated when fila has done this in the past, but it's a better option than what they chose to do. I don't think you can go to the bad time after guys have recovered and miller was totally gassed. to keep citing that the coaches had a chance to waive the challenge flag is totally disgusting to me.

*also keep in mind fila rewrestled matches usually applied to subjective scoring and judgments made about the action, not a counting error.

12 out of the 640 matches at the NCAA championships had regulation final scores of 1-0, 2-0, or 2-1. That's less than one out of fifty matches. Of the 12, Tsirtsis accounted for three.

I found the tournament to be as exciting as ever, with the exception of a small number of guys who are trying to slow the match way down (like Tsirtsis). I think guys went out there to wrestle. Scoring on top guys is really hard, and fans need to be sophisticated enough to appreciate this and not seek gimmick rule changes that may increase scoring without increasing action or wrestling.
