I don't understand the "we need to save wrestling with rule changes" attitude. it is a sporting competition and one that hasn't historically appealed to the masses. a few rule changes aren't going to magically get every dual on espn and sell out across the country. we need to continue doing what we do well and retain the attention of former wrestlers. records continue to be broken with attendance and viewership each year. we don't need to change the rules and develop a new product. we need to present our product better, which continues to happen. don't sacrifice great parts of our sport to theoretically make it more appealing to mass audiences. that model has proven to be unsuccessful.

stauffer didn't beat dean. dean lost to meeks and zillmer in vegas. stauffer won it over meeks. stauffer has quality wins over meeks (3x), zillmer (in ot), and over Bernstein (can that be considered quality this year?). he lost to courts early in the year. if I was drawn into that bracket I would feel like I hit the lottery if I ended up in that quarter bracket.

If you take out Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Oakland which have minmal high school wrestling, CA would be a lot higher on the per capita ratio. Better ratio is what % of the high school wrestlers qualify for the NCAAs.

The only way to look at it per capita is to look at it as the number of high school athletes. I used the NFHS reports on the number of high school wrestlers in each of the states listed above. Obviously, it would be better to have the high school the national qualifier attended, rather than the hometown they now claim, but that will only create a minor difference.

I don't think the refs will let Tomasello stall for two straight periods while the other guy fires off shots outside of his (Tomasello's) home arena like the B1G finals. Especially not against Garrett who WILL get to the legs, unlike Gilman, whose shots never came close.

delgado scores a ton of points from this situation and I believe he passed nico into a cradle for his first title. just because it's not basic technique old timers often hate it. you are complaining about dean and he passed into a good scramble that he scored off of. just like any other move in wrestling it can get bogged down and end in a stalemate. however, I don't hear people complaining about a head inside single that gets sprawled on, or a front headlock (probably the most stalemated position) being outlawed.

Guys, if you're truly a fan of the sport of wrestling, then you embrace both the exciting and the boring parts of the sport.  By attempting to change the rules to eliminate certain defensive tactics, holds, and strategy, you are effectively trying to eliminate a part of wrestling itself.  This is fine, but you're really not a fan of the sport and its intricacies, you're just another jabroni with a short attention span.

The original poster isn't a fan of wrestling; he's a fan of action.  He's the same type of person that watches NASCAR hoping for car wrecks, the type of person that watches basketball for the alley oops, and the kind of person that watches football for the hail marys.  You might as well just switch over to watching the UFC, where elite talent (Ben Askren) is ignored simply because his style of fighting doesn't sell tickets.

I know you aren't in the group firing the shots, but when you attempt a move doesn't change the fact that it is a scoring technique as well as a defense technique. delgado takes a lot of heat because of the final bout against garrett, but he scores regularly with his ankle pass and is mostly aggressive and looking to score with it. just so happens the match that everyone saw he was in such bad position he had to just defend and get the stalemate.

officials are clueless for the most part here and don't understand when the guy is being controlled as he is trying to pass. if they could understand it better they could call it better. when the control is established the td should be awarded and backs can be counted if the wrestler is in a near-fall situation. you can't change the rule to count near-fall  without a td for just that situation.

SITUATION 2: While wrestling, Wrestler A’s shoelaces are tied but his shoe comes off as he tries to kick out from his opponent’s grasp. The referee calls a delay of match and, therefore, a stalling violation against Wrestler A.   QUESTION: Does this rule apply since his shoelaces were tied?   RULING: Yes. The wrestling shoes shall reach above the ankle and be tightly secured so they do not come off during competition. The referee shall assess a delay of match and, therefore, a stalling violation to Wrestler A.
