  1. The list was "college wrestler"....... the pick..... duh.
  2. Most people would not watch, do not watch, and could careless whether men's wrestling is competitive.... therefore the sport should be eliminated. Is this your contention. Folks like you are why I see this sport is it's own worst enemy, and why when the IOC did what they did..... I wasn't surprised. As much as I like the actual competitive part of the sport (all styles and sexes), the fan base, and management are pretty dumb. Am I wrong? If the sport loses Olympic status it will be REALLY easy to get rid of non-profitable programs at the collegiate level..... which is almost all of them. Without a viable collegiate level how long before it gets down to the HS participation and offered level?
  3. You just made a seriously good case to eliminate 90% of DI men's programs........ because like you with women's wrestling no one watches them..... is it your contention that 90% of DI programs should be eliminated?
  4. Well Mr Gallon, Why don't you educate us with your list oh wise one? Because banging my head against brick walls gives me headaches and I guess because after all the years, hours spent, travel, money spent, passion, and support in many ways, I'm trying to move on and extradite myself from a (sadly) dying sport.
  5. The responses on this thread depress me...... the lack of knowledge is not a good indicator to the future of the sport in this country, nor the USA efforts in the Olympics. Leaving it on a positive...... at least everybody gets Gable as the best coach.
  6. Dake - Taylor.... rare to see all-time greats purposefully match up with each other and then wrestle balls out in the finals.
  7. Garrett is non-stop and has a gas tank to match his style. He wore out Garnett mentally and physically as the match went on. It is amazing how much he has improved over the past 18 months.
  8. My mind hasn't changed because the dynamic hasn't changed. What is Taylor doing differently that will work on Dake?
  9. Styles make matches..... just ask Taylor when it comes to Dake. PS - just commenting on the posters comment. I actually like both guys and if they make the finals I won't be rooting for either, just want to see a good match.
  10. Ruth. I would have liked to pick Dake but Taylor is pretty dang good.
  11. I am not nearly an expert as so many on this board. I follow it but my college wrestling snob credentials have expired. So this is just my observations..... 125 Waters wasn't rewarded by getting the number one seed. If he deserves it..... boy does he get a chance to prove it. Delgado gets the easier (match up speaking) draw. 133 Stuff happens but seriously..... number one and two are on a collision course they have (seemingly) avoided all year. 141 The potential semi's rock in this tournament. Mangrum is funky and an enigma. Port is solid and capable of an upset. I predict one and two meet up but this isn't a given. 149 Chamberlin is solid enough to give Oliver a match. He is also inconsistent enough not to get there. 157 This should go by seed but seriously both number one and two have issues that could cross them up. Conditioning, attitude, strength, styles, something..... I go with the seeds but wouldn't be surprised if not. 165 - Don't even need to look at the brackets..... one and two are WAY above the rest. I am a huge fan of Taylor..... great kid with a fun and technical style.... but a bad match up against Dake. 174 One of those weight classes where a low seed, or unseeded wrestle gets through. Nobody owns this eight. I would be surprised if this one went by seed. 184 Ruth has his toughest match in the semi's...... he wins that easily. Not much else to say. Guy is amazing on his feet. Strong on top. Can get out from bottom. What more is there? 197 For some reason I thought there was more than two tough guys at this weight..... I guess not. Ht Bradley walks through, semis on the other side should be fun. Picks 125 Delgado (sleeper Garrett) 133 Steiber (no sleeper - top two a cut above) 141 Maple (Steiber, Port and Mangrum are all there) 149 Oliver - score is close if it is Chamberlin. 157 Welch - Homer pick 165 Dake - owns Taylor 174 Kokesh - somebody outside the norm is going to win 184 Ruth - somebody outside of the norm won't win here 197 Wright - he is a final gamer. If Kilgore beasts him he wins but Wright will leave it on the mat. HT Bradley is a beast.
  12. Dake wins... either by a point in regulation, or a ride out situation in OT. I think Dake's defense and ability to control position wins on feet and he has a better chance of taking Taylor down then vice-versa. I think Dake can get out on bottom better than Taylor can get out from Dake. Neither guy can turn the other. And finally, Dake has won the last three..... I think he has the mental advantage. My .02 - the match will actually take place on a wrestling mat.
  13. Here is an interesting tidbit - my dad is extremely proud of his Scottish heritage..... wears a quilt on occasion, Been to Scotland a few times, has Scottie dogs, even learned how to play the bagpipes (sort of). Yet he was/is A Marine who served two tours in Vietnam and loves his country. How can that be..... oh yeah, white european heritage is okay. People might only call you a racist because you probably are. Ha. I knew this would bring out plenty of conjecture and the ire of the pc crowd. I tell it like I see it and the countless latinos, african americans, asians or whites would all tell you the same thing about me, no one was ever treated differently by me and all were able to come and break bread with me and my family. I'm Irish and damn proud of it but you don't see me running around with and Irish flag....now an American one...you bet. Why no half Mexican half American flag? IMO, pointing out national pride is not proof of racism...to the contrary, it's having the respect to point out my differences with someone (DESPITE their race without the fear of people calling me a racist. Not that you would know but my past speaks for itself and that is not one of racism I can assure you of that. So says the anonymous guy posting racist sounding stuff on a discussion board. And calling it PC is typical political racist cover for denying one is a racist..... sort of the new version of "I have many good friends who are black/Mexican/etc... not buying it dude. FWIW, I support your right your right to be a racist. It is part of your 'right' as an American much as Cain has the right as an American to celebrate his heritage. Don't deny your leanings.... it is part of your heritage after all.... embrace it.

  15. I'm sure Cain loves the US. He was born here, grew up here, graduated from college here, and pays taxes here. He is an American through and through, and I'm sure he'd tell you that. He waives the Mexican flag around as a symbol of Chicano culture. That culture is part of this country. It was present when California and Arizona first joined the US. And, you have to look at Cain's 'Brown Pride' tattoo in the context of his experience as a person who faced a lot of disadvantages and discrimination growing up. His ability to turn that around, and see it as a source of pride is supposed to be a statement about himself and what he's overcome. The tattoo is not a statement about a culture or ethnicity being superior to others. I don't know of any non-Chicano or non-Latino who has accused Cain of treating him poorly due to his race or ethnicity. Some speculate that the UFC would love to make inroads into the Mexican market, and that they highlight Cain's background in order to create new fans. Great post and spot on.
