Very nice showing by the three New Yorkers on Kong...

Combined, Titus/Redding/Busiello went something like 27-1.
Redding had the 6-5 win over Barnett; Busiello had a decision by an identical score against Lovett...Titus looked good in that narrow 5-3 loss to Bouzakis.

Of the 13 NYSPHSAA wrestlers to win four or more titles, the following did so without one of their titles coming at 96/99:
Vito Arujau: Won 1st title at 113...Placed 2nd at 99 as an 8th grader
Alex Ekstrom: Won 1st title at 112...
Frankie Gissendanner: Won 1st title at 138
    Jesse Jantzen: Won 1st title at 119...Placed 3rd at 91 as a 7th grader
    Quinton Murphy: Won 1st title at 103...Placed 6th as a 7th grader at 96
Nick Piccininni: Won 1st title at 106...Placed 3rd at 99 as an 8th grader

Note: As mentioned above, no 5x has yet to do it without winning once at 96/99.

New York did away with that one per section system a few years ago.  We now have wildcards and because of that, there has been an occasion or two where teammates both advanced to the state tournament.

Probably the most famous example was the Soria twins from King Parks.  They ended up being in the same NYSPHSAA bracket back-to-back years.   And while they never faced each other in the finals, they did meet both years.  In 2009, they drew each other in the quarterfinals, with one forfeiting and the other going on to win the state crown.  The following year, they met in the consolation semis, and the one who had forfeited in 2009, accepted a forfeit in 2010 and then took 3rd.

I am not sure what the hell you guys are looking for.

I acknowledged that the win was not the same as when you do it with local kids and that no one should be taking credit for it.

Instead of being assholes with keyboard, why don't you ask one of the kids themselves if they felt like hired help, or if the organizers promoted a team environment?

My comment was not even about wins or losses; it was about attitude and the level of support they gave to each other.  And how it appears that a lot of the guys who come from other states seem to enjoy the experience and stay in contact with each other after the fact.

Even though he lost yesterday, you cannot remove Sadulaev from consideration.

Prior to the loss to Snyder, the kid had never lost at a World Championship at any level (2x Cadet, 2x Senior).

Is there any real doubt that he is no worse than #2 in terms of ability?

I think it was just one bad year (junior season + Fargo).

He bounced back rather nicely when he went to Sem....He rediscovered his offense, won Super 32 (4-2 over Bullard), took 1st at the Ironman behind an 8-1 decision over Evan Wick, was the champion at Powerade (2-1 tb2 over Hidlay), and bonused (3 TFs, 1 fall, 1 MD) through Prep Nationals.

    Nerd,

I think the comment was more about priorities/passion than results....I took it to mean that if both had six spare hours, Nick would spend them in the library; Vito would be in the wrestling room.

It meant more to Nick to excel in the classroom than to be a world champion.

I was that way too as a student....I only had a 90 average, but I worked tirelessly to get there....Other guys barely worked and had 95s because they just naturally had it....But my grades probably brought greater satisfaction because I knew the effort it required to obtain.

As far as the little man, George is the GOAT !!!  Such a handsome little guy !!!

Considerably better....If you ask his brother [Nick], Vito has always been more advanced at similar stages than he ever was.

More importantly, Vito's heart belongs to the sport; Nick liked wrestling, but never seemed to love it.

It goes back a little while, but I recall Vougar referring to Nick as "his studious son" and Vito as "his wrestling son".

The scoring in the only match he lost was controversial at best...We are never going to know what would have happened if he wins that match and remains in the winner's bracket.     From what i have been told, he is going even or beating some pretty established people in camp.

It could be a chicken and the egg situation, but I do know that Hofstra is building an entire weekend around wrestling at the arena.

In addition to the Farrell, they are also hosting the Nassau CC wrestle-offs, a dual between local programs, Stony Brook and SUNY Farmingdale, two clinics (one featuring Gray and Maroulis for young girls; the other being FS with Dake)...The final touch is that they are having an All-Star between a team of Nassau and Suffolk County's best scholastic wrestlers.

It is important to remember that Noel Thompson, who is the former NYAC Wrestling Chairperson, is a Hofstra alum and the current chair, Dave Foxen, is a Long Island resident.

^Indeed....And what is great if you are a Blue Knight fan is that the surge you are seeing now is only the tip of the iceberg.  In speaking to a person close to the program, he was sharing with me that they are blown away by the depth and quality that they have in their club program...They are expecting quite a few studs to be working their way up through the ranks in the coming years.  All signs suggest that Sem is here to stay !

Just to follow up MA's excellent post, Iran did in fact win the tournament by a margin of six points.  The final tally was 64-58.  Russia took 3rd with 49 team points.
