  1. Did Hawkfever answer your question? No he didn't ..... It wasn't till just recently the Pec tear, was mentioned. "anybody with a clue" ... LOL. Hawkfever, you need to dial the rhetoric down just a bit. There are a lot of us who follow Iowa from a far .. and we had no idea, or facts with regard to McD, and what was going on. For what ever reason it was treated like a national secret. Without a confirmation from any reliable source, we were left with speculation, guesses, and rumor. Hawk ... there are a lot of us who follow Iowa wrestling and actually like the "product" and how they perform on the mat. It's the Iowa fans that often turn us off. PSU, OKState, Oregon State, Cornell, etc .. etc .. etc .. all have rabid, enthusiastic fans, yet year in and year out, it's the Iowa fans, that turn people off, with regards to the Iowa program. Your problems ore of your own making. And what is most telling, is the drastic drop off, of the fan base when they are not "Top Dogs" in the NCAA race. I think that is referred to as "Fair weather Fans". I swear ..... You guys seem like you are always angry ... Chill. Calling people names, does not help your cause or argument one little bit. (just an FYI) Most recently I read where the injury happened during the "Freestyle" season, prior to the NCAA season. Not sure it that was the case or not, yet if so .... Could he not have taken an Injury type year off? Was he out of time? Random idiots in cyberspace hate Iowa Wrestling Fans? Oh, the horror! LOL! Next thing ya know, you'll be telling me that random cyberspace idiots hate Duke Basketball. I can't wait for all the "evidence" you compiled in your exhaustive investigation of the depletion of the Iowa Wrestling Fanbase! That should be a doozy. You Sir, are the definition of a hypocrite. Hate Iowa? What? Me? I just typed something that says I don't, just ignore my previous 1000 posts to the contrary. Nah.... can't be me! LOL!
  2. If all you folks "wondering" about McD aren't able to ascertain something so obvious on your own, there is no explanation I can give you that you'll be able to digest and rationalize anyway, so it really is a waste of my time. That's pretty much it in a nutshell. If anything, this thread enhances my belief that common sense isn't all that common. How about we just go with this then to appease the herd................... he wasn't hurt, looked really good all year, just so happens that all these other juggernauts just improved to the point where poor ol' McD just couldn't hang with the likes of Trent Sprenkle any more. Happens to the best of them. Good Day Gents Something was clearly wrong with McDonough, but that's kind of a cheap shot at Sprenkle, or at least comes off as one. Sprenkle is no slouch, put himself in a position to AA, and took McD as he found him. I'm sure you didn't mean to slight Sprinkle, but "the likes of" gives a negative connotation. No, I did not intend to denigrate young Mr. Sprenkle in any way, but people can take it however they like, and they do. It also gives an obvious connotation, which escapes many on this board and others. Sprenkle and Matt McDonough aren't in the same stratsophere from a wrestling perspective, which should bring about the obvious mindset as how McD losing could come about. Could someone like Sprenkle "upset" McD? Sure, happens all the time. But the underlying theme to me is that Sprenkle was the last straw in a year of undeniable problems with Matt McDonough, as it pertains to his body of work as a Senior. If people are too dense to see that (and they clearly are), not sure anything I say could help. FWIW, Matt McDonough had shoulder surgery last week. I wasn't present at the surgery. I'm not a Doctor. I'm not related. So for those with the obnoxious questions pertaining to specifics of it, I don't have the answer, so don't bother. The only comment I would have relative to that is from my normal sarcastic viewpoint - "really, that's stunning news".
  3. I don't think all that much about it to be honest. Most of it from fans is conjecture and B.S. anyway, it's a matter of one's opinion and perspective. I have zero doubt if Brands had 10 All-Americans many Hawk Haters would question why he didn't have 10 Champions. That's the way it is. I'm glad he's our Coach, and hope he remains there for as long as he's happy doing it. Anyone with a clue knows Matt McD was hurt the entire year, Ballweg was up and down and got hurt at Big Tens, Evans at NCAA's and we all know what happened with Telford. That's a lot of potential points out the door due to injury to 4 guys. I doubt anyone else in the country had the same amount of "issues". They (Iowa) weren't going to win anyway, but they might have made it interesting. I've been watching this stuff for years and years. I'm not naive enough to think Iowa is going to win National's every year, and I'm not going to "panic" when they don't. I didn't like the product and where it was headed at the end of the Zalesky era, I don't have remotely the same concerns with what Brands is doing. I'm not piling on McD, really just don't understand the logic of defending him with this sentence. How did he beat Garrett the first time they wrestled at Nat. Duals? How did he beat Nico in the dual? If he was hurt all year how did he ever win a match?? Hawk fans need to move on from this injury thing, it seems the athlete has. Maybe he just didn't perform well at the National Tournament, it happens. If all you folks "wondering" about McD aren't able to ascertain something so obvious on your own, there is no explanation I can give you that you'll be able to digest and rationalize anyway, so it really is a waste of my time. 4. Your reference to the past 35 years of Iowa wrestling dominance and your prediction of their future being "in the hunt" are precisely what this thread is about. Gable nation doesn't want to be merely "in the hunt". They want to win like they did during the Gable years, some of the Zalesky years, and win like they did in Brands' first three seasons as Iowa head coach. This "in the hunt" business isn't going to cut it for Iowa fans who see placing second as failure (ie: McDonough at B1G this season).Yeah, and UCLA wants to win 9 Basketball Titles in a row too. How's that working out for them? I haven't heard of a single UCLA fan that committed suicide because they haven't run off a string of National Titles. I don't think you'll hear about any Iowa Wrestling fans in that regard either. Yes, Iowa Wrestling fans want the Hawks to win everything they enter, not sure that makes us unique. Sometimes you get beat by a better team and you just tip your hat and say "well done". It isn't really that difficult.
  5. I'm not too sure of that, hawkfever. What evidence do you have that suggests that the dead feel chagrin, or any other emotion for that matter? Al Gore said as much right after he invented The Internet and Global Warming. If you can't trust Al, who can you trust?
  6. Let me guess Donnie. You thought I called you Bigfoot? LOL! You're a peach Sir. If I felt the need to call you something derogatory, I assure you there wouldn't be any question as to whether I had or not. Have a good day.

  8. You silly Hawk haters and your "what if" scenario's are certainly entertaining. Iowa isn't going anywhere, they'll be in the hunt long after you're dead and gone, much to your chagrin I'm sure. I'm happy for you that you're so amused about your "bold predictions" of THE LAST 3 YEARS! How'd you do the 35 or so previous years? Not so hot I'm guessing.
  9. Zalesky will probably have that opportunity right after they find Bigfoot and the Lochness Monster rooming together under a Denny's somewhere in Canada. As for Oregon State's "issues" with Mangrum and Hanke not wrestling to seed, "what if" McD is 100% for his Senior year, "what if" Telford isn't bounced from the tournament because of injury (while still on the winners bracket side BTW), "what if" Ballweg doesn't get injured at Big Tens, what if Evans isn't injured during the tourney? Damn near half of Iowa's team was injured prior to or during the NCAA's, and they still somehow "managed" to get 4th with their worthless Coach.................... We're keeping the Brands boys and will be damn happy to do so. Demise and all.
  10. Sure, but I'm one of only 100 or so hard core, through thick and thin UNI fans that always felt that we had that, even during the "lean" years. Schwab has definitely been able to bring in recruits, the rest has yet to be determined. All of the guys wrestling this weekend were Penrith recruits, and likely would have accomplished what they are accomplishing today with penrith in the corner. Their talent doesn't change because of a coach. "Their talent doesn't change because of a coach". Seriously? Uumm, OK.
  11. They lost their highly seed All American HW on the first match. No, they are not in the team race. The question wasn't "are they better than Penn State and Okie State?", it's are they in the team race. No, they were out of any chance in the team race when their All American 285 lber went down in his first match. Try to keep up. This wrestling stuff is HARD to figure. So you're telling me with less guys, and the guys they have not wrestling very well, they're not in the team race? LOL! They'll be damn fortunate to take home a trophy, and they'll earn whatever they get, even if it's nothing. That said, I'm sure they were counting on Telford for more points than he was able to give before being injured and forfeiting out of the tourney. His potential points not being there could certainly knock them down to a 5th or 6th type of placement, with those areas likely to be pretty close in points scored.
  12. Matt has already publicly stated that he regretted his decision and he wished he wouldn't have done it. If people want to look they can find it. Personally I don't care if he did or he didn't. His business.
  13. If he has no physical reasons preventing him from competing, this move would stain McD's legacy. During the Gable dynasty, Iowa won tons of championships by insane margins. For Gable's first one, though, the margin was 0.50 points (see 1978, Iowa, NCAA championship). He's still part of a team, and as a fifth year Sr, presumably a team leader. Now is the time to demonstrate that to younger team members - again, assuming he's physically able to continue. You seriously thought this might be a possibility because some clown wrote it down? Dude, come on.
  14. Really? Going strictly by memory, he just looked bad all year, when it's not what you expect out of certain individuals, it's typically one of 3 things IMO. Weight cut, injury (noticeable or otherwise) or sudden laziness. I think for the majority of these studs that go "south" in their Senior years, the last one probably doesn't happen often if ever. I'm actually surprised that people think they have to see a limp, or a consistent shoulder rub, or a bandage, etc., to not buy into the fact there may be an injury. Trust your own two eyes and figure it out from there.
  15. Better yet don't go under Nelson and take him down. Problem is Nelson won't shoot and Z seems to like to counter more than he does attacking on his own (at the matches I've witnessed, perhaps that isn't the case all the time?).
