  1. It would probably be more accurate to blame the proportionality prong of Title 9 than the entire statute.

Can we all get along here?

from my understanding.....its probably the clause in Title IX that gave OCR the statutory right to interpret Title IX as well as implement it.

  2. 1) Jordan said "Based on everything I've seen, based on Mr Cummings, the IRS case is solved." Mueller said the investigation was just beginning. Jordan was either dead wrong or posturing.

    2) Jordan asks a leading question about the identities of two rogue agents when the investigation has just started. Mueller could not have answered that question nor even said for sure who was involved. The investigation just started. That question is just a waste of time.

    3) Jordan asks how many investigators are working on the case, and who's in charge. Again, this is a waste of time. Mueller, the Director, would not be personally involved in an investigation like this. He told Jordan he'd get him the information. I don't see what the problem is with that.

    4) Jordan says the IRS case is the most important issue in front of the country in the last six weeks. Seriously? He's either extremely out of touch or posturing.

It's more like Jordan's demagoguing on the Hill.

While I agree with many of Jay's points.....just seemed to me that Mueller said he virtually knew "nothing" which either makes him (a) less than competent or (b) less than forthcoming. He could have answered that he knew the answers to Jordan's questions and did not want to give specifics so that investigation did not get compromised. However in spite of the opportunity to do so he did not. Therefore I can only conclude that Mueller is either (a) or (b). Anyhow this is my take on things.

  3. I have heard a rumor of who is in the running for the SIUE job and I will remain silent on Who but he is an assistant of a big big public East Coast university and is originally from around the Illinois/Missouri Area. (Basically I don't want to jinx it. Cause I hope he gets it)

that would be Matt Lackey I guess

  4. Wow 6 figures annually, thats incredible! It is well deserved for someone who has accomplished what he has. Outstanding. Does anyone know the length of the contract?

That sure takes a load off Dakes back financially so he can focus on his FS career. How it SHOULD be for our top tier guys. Too bad our top olympian hopefulls couldnt ALL get backed financially so they could just focus on training and not have to worry about supporting themselves and their families.

just because they say 6 figures does not necessarily mean anything.......could mean that its royalty driven which requires a certain $$ amount of sales. Anyway I hope Dake did not lock himself into any long term deals without getting paid a certain guaranteed amount.

  5. what better way to make sure things stay status quo than to boycott the "competition". Just goes to show how obtuse some folks in the wrestling community can be. All that was needed to get the NCAA to sanction the national duals, pay them a sanctioning fee, and the NCAA could have mandated all teams invited have to attend. At least that's my opinion on the subject.

  6. The question really does not do justice to what (in my opinion of course) is going on with Taylor. Don't think it would have mattered who trained Taylor.....since it seems that Dake simply has gotten into Taylor's head and he cannot get him out of it. Just looking at their last match seems to be very telling. Taylor came storming out at Dake, took him down like he was on a mission. However, once Dake almost reversed him and almost put that inside cradle on Taylor, DT lost his edge, and basically stopped wrestling. Even though I believe DT is the better wrestler of the two, not sure he will ever be the better competitor. JMHO!

Hmm.... So Taylor, who is the better wrestler, lost because something is "wrong" with him. Dake's 4-0 against Taylor in two different styles does not even suggest that he might be better?

Dake has proven he can consistently beat Taylor in extremely close matches. Overall, Taylor has proven to be the better wrestler against other competition. He destroys EVERYONE. If I'm a college coach, I'd much rather have David Taylor on my squad than Dake. No doubt about it.

Not disagreeing with the above.....only trying to make the distinction between the better wrestler from a technical standpoint and the better competitor. I am sure if you asked Dan Gable he would tell you that many of his opponents had better technique than he did. This is simply the case between Dake and Taylor. At this point I would pick Dake to win at least 8 out of 10 matches with Taylor even though I believe Taylor has better technique. Not sure why you find that so difficult to understand!

  7. I think so. More attacking style to take advantage of his skills. More aggressive against Dake when it counted.

  8. Conaway is now Gold along with Lawson; Something I thought near impossible a couple months ago.

He really has done a fantastic job this year, especially considering he looks undersized at 133. Shame he may have to sit for a couple years before we see him in the starting lineup again.

bear in mind that Megaludis has not had a redshirt year, and he could go 125.....although I am not sure who else might be at 125.

  9. Thank God for the coaches who stood up and fought a mostly unpopular battle(at least amongst the forum posters) to not screw around with the most successful, exciting tournament in America....The NCAAs!!!!!!!!!! Replacing the NCAA team champions with a Dual meet champion is the dumbest idea ever. We see what is happening with the Olympics when idiotic FILA puts the stupidest freestyle rules in to place...Well guess what?....... We cannot even entertain a discussion which involves removing the title of NCAA Team Champions from the NCAAs. You know what is even crazier...Colleges take great pride in finishing ahead of some of their rivals at The NCAAs ( even if they get 12th place).. that will be completely taken away in a dual format! If you argue this point please leave the sport of wrestling and get into badminton.....you would do the sport of wrestling a favor

have to agree with you....unfortunately this battle is not over yet.....and after hearing of the IOC's recent decision, it still seems as though anything is possible. :-(

  10. why they changed from the old format with teams from JUCO, NAIA, Div II, Div III is simply beyond the scope of my comprehension.....attendance would have certainly been better than 2,000!!!

Minnesota was phenomenal. I love watching Ness wrestle. They were just a dominant tournament team...dominant. Impressive.

What was not impressive was the duals themselves. Horrific attendance. I was there. If they can't get any more people to them then just stop it. There were like a little over 2,000 people there last night. It's just not a popular thing. The thought of it replacing nationals is an abomination.

And it definitely needs to be done more professionally. The time on the tickets were wrong. And the venue was as far from neutral as it could be. They shouldn't be wrestling on two mats with Minnesota's big logo on it. And they certainly shouldn't have an announcer who constantly lavished MN with praise. You should never ever hear "Let's hear it for your Minnesota Golde Gophers.....!" during matches. That was just wrong, and unprofessional.

I'm not going to go to another if you can so slant it towards the whoever the home team is. It was like Minny's own private tourney. It was a dream for Minny fans. Too bad so few were there.

  11. I wouldn't bet against McBono come tournament time, but I think the weight cut is clearly getting to him. Delgado was so much better in the dual.

No question about the weight cut getting to him part. I shudder think how great dominant he would have been as a 133/141 lbr, but not sure McDonough was as comfortable stepping up to the Olivers and Steibers of the wrestling world. However, as much as I like Delgado, I am pretty sure that McDonough will be bringing his spinach to Des Moines. BTW....will someone out there explain how McDonough was given the nickname "McBono"?

  12. I believe the following rule needs to be changed from -

    3.12.2

Combined total of falls and technical falls

    to

    3.12.2

Combined total team points from wrestlers winning by fall and technical fall.

I was thinking the same thing last nite as the heavyweigh match started and it was my (mis)understanding that this was the rule.
