  1. Here is the criteria for an Olympic redshirt, Nick only qualifies for a regular redshirt. There are four ways to qualify for an Olympic redshirt year  Only required to meet one criteria 1) Past National Team members (Top 3 from the World or Olympic Team Trials) 2) Top 8 at the 2019 Senior US Open 3) Top 3 at the 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championship or NCAA Champion from a previous year AND top 2 from the 2019 U23 World Team Trials (must accomplish both) 4) Previous Cadet, Junior, U23 World Medalist
  2. The money man for TMWC is Andy Barth, not Wayne Boyd.
  3. Nate Carr. Did not place his freshman year and won three titles.

  6. They hosted a dual meet tournament every year where they invited and accepted any team that was willing to enter. They put it on the line every year. The team that stopped the streak was a Florida team (South Dade) at that same tournament. Also, Russ went to the Clash, Cheesehead, and other tough tournaments throughout the years. Russ is all class. His son Joe is next in line. Florida's problem is no middle school wrestling throughout much of the state (Miami and Clay counties have MS teams) and lack of quality and depth once you get past the top five teams in each division (1A,2A, and 3A).

  8. Adam Coon with his fourth consecutive pin to reach the finals! Couldn't have happened to better young man!
  9. Wow! Coon in the finals with his fourth pin in a row!
  10. Mackall at 125 had a strong spring freestyle season, as well. Dresser and company are quietly putting together a team/program that will be built to last. Hoping the ISU/IU dual becomes relevant again in the near future.
  11. That was a terrible call. How does he get 4 for that last scramble?
  12. Actually, Rudy was defeated by Rick Nardelli from Huntington in the Sectionals and did not get a chance to wrestle Edmonds or Capone at State. Rudy was a great friend through HS and behind. Haven't seen him since I moved to Florida. John Iannuzzi, Rudy Isom, and myself were 1979 Jr. National finalist and trained in the Fifth Avenue wrestling room with Jumper Leggio.

  15. Demetrius Thomas will be a junior next year and used his redshirt at Williams Baptist. Very intriguing as this guy is an athlete and will have better competition and workout partners.
  16. Chavez won the third match of the round robin and Patrick Martinez beat Provisor in their third match of the round robin to make the world team.
  17. Expect Lee to take an Olympic redshirt for the 2019-2020 season.
  18. Word on the street is Yianni will be at 149. Vito-133, Koll-141, and Yianni at 149. Yianni has the frame to fill out and put on some size. If he does move up does he follow Dake's footsteps and go up a class each year. Tall order, for sure.
  19. New York allows two per weight to enter League's (District's in Florida). Then, the top four move on to sectionals (Suffolk County/Section XI). With close to sixty schools with wrestling in our county, very rarely do teams have two from the same team in the finals. But, the second scorers definitely affect the team score and race.
  20. Let's hope not. If he stays home and they pick up a couple of more studs, Northern Colorado is a top 20 team or better. They are in a great wrestling conference (BIG 12) and Nickerson building NCU only helps the sport at the DI level.
  21. That is the question. Will they go through a wrestle-off process or tell guys what weight they will wrestle. Nick could be in a log jam. The question is where is Fix going? If he goes 133 and everyone bumps up a class then I see Nick at 125. Nick is better suited for 125 than 133.
  22. Actually, it was Lee Kemp, not Kenny Monday, who said you will be 300 lbs. if you do not get your nutrition under control. Literally, Daniel almost died making weight for the 2008 Olympics. He was a former bronze medalist and had a serious shot at Olympic gold. Obviously, he has done much better making 205 for MMA than he did making 211 for the Olympics.
  23. Probably because he had Greg Gibson and Dan Severn to contend with who were all World Medalists during the same time period. I agree that Lou set a tremendous pace and wore people out. Not only strong but very technical (also had a mean streak that made him very dangerous).
  24. The transfer wrestled for Wyoming and lost a close decision to Montorie Bridges. He wrestled at Wyoming Seminary in HS and will fit in at 133 lbs. If they can get Picc to transfer (which would be a great move by Picc), Hofstra can begin making waves and get back to that top 15-20 range they achieved when Tom Ryan was leading the charge. Also, Hofstra needs more Long Island kids in the line-up and having Picc would be a huge sell to other LI recruits. Stay tuned...
