An explanation was given in the Flo post meet comments, that they went back 45-50 seconds to where the sequence began and continued for so long.

Fond memories of those first years-1975 at Princeton- Between sessions in the practice room was the best wrestling and exchange of ideas, techniques, etc. Greats of the past would show up and wrestle. Dan Gable would take on all comers as they lined up 40+ for the chance to go takedowns with him; he did that again at the 1975 World Coaches clinic in Mn, when Wade Shalles showed up in line. He hit a firemans on Dan, but Dan simply used the momentum of the shot to roll him thru, and Dan comes up holding 2 & 2, which is how freestyle would have scored it. Only time I've ever seen anyone do that technique. Anyway, I miss the early years of practice room exchange of ideas; learned a lot; I remember seeing Sergei Beloglazov playing with some of our best. Ask Chertow how it went.

Dan Gable used to slap Joe Williams much harder than this little love tap before matches. (both wrestlers seeking to get fired up)

This video looks like a 5th generation copy of the VHS tape I have (the original). Interesting that 2 days before the tournament began LeeRoy Smith dislocated his shoulder while slipping in the shower, so Randy hustled into Edmonton, somehow made the weight, and actually had his hand raised after the match, only to have the match overturned during their backroom video review. This happened so often with FILA; so much better today, but I can think of at least 5 Americans denied their opportunity to win Gold because a bout was overturned after everyone left the gym.

Enough credibility that he was voted to the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships Committee, and, until earlier this month, was President of the National Wrestling Coaches' Association. Nearly everybody in the wrestling world would like to have half as much credibility as Tom Ryan, myself included.

Jim Morgan, successful coach at UT Chattanooga 70-82 ? ; several AA's in D-1 and D-2. Jim never even started in HS, serving as a backup his entire career; similar to Howard Ferguson of St Ed's lore.

This year’s tournament has 4 wrestlers seeking their 3rd NCAA title. Has there ever been more in a single year?

He is/was one of the best officials despite the Hendricks no-call fall that will always be synonymous with his name (even made a verb); too bad for him.

Go back to the last 2:30 of the match; the official should have done a couple of things differently-1. Don't factor in the injury to call the match differently (J'den only counter-attacked while backing up the entire remaining time) 2. After the injury the mat became so wet while J'den was drenched in sweat; they literally slid across the half the mat on one of Taylor's shots after the injury (should have been wiped dry) (reminds me of Toronto in 93) 3. How long is a wrestler allowed to wait after the whistle to resume action at the center of the mat? (clearly, the injury played in the mind of the official)
Sorry if this post appears to be heartless, but would the last 2:30 have been called differently if no injury had occurred? IMO, no question

So true, think of the greats of the past who'd be completely left out-the Beloglazov bros (although Sergie did win one at 62 kg-1982), Zeke, V Jordanov, Takada, and the list goes on and on) Also think about the millions and millions this eliminates (mainly the Asian population who are noticeably smaller than the rest of the world).

The Zapruder video was shot using super 8 mm film; I used the same kind of 3 min reels to shoot hours of the 76 Games in Montreal. Film has better lasting quality than tape.

Oliver did not even admit to being lucky; he said he won as a product of the rules and the call went his way. You bet they did, all 4 points; he did 0 to earn that victory. Also, I haven't done it yet (count actual #'s), but I'd venture to say the JB had more hands to face against Dake more than Zain against JO.
