  16. Now if we could just recruit a Hokie Open blogger. That's way too labor intensive for me. We're open for suggestion. People like Seton Hall Pirate add a lot to the tourneys they blog on...
  17. RE posting results - I totally agree and fortunately Kevin Dresser agrees in the case of the Virginia Tech Hokie Open. We have posted results all day, real-time, at the Hokie Open for all five years of the tournament because the tournament software makes it easy. What it doesn't do, we figure out how to work around in order to keep people informed. Prior to the tournament we arranged, with the involvement of VT Head Coach Kevin Dresser, to provide results to the VT SID, Bryan Johnston, who promptly posted them, along with a short story/report, within minutes of the completion of the tournament, on the VT sports Web site, http://www.HokieSports.com, and he provided a link to the Hokie Open Web site. During the tournament, fans can follow the tournament for free in the arena or at home on Internet-enabled devices (smart phones, laptops, tablets, desktop computers (home)) via Doug Sikora's SikoraSoft Paperless Tourney software and KapWrestling.net, for free, via the public bandwidth provided by the arena. In addition, when we began the tournament 5 years ago, we created a site just for the tournament, http://www.HokieOpen.com. Tournament details and results are posted prior to the tournament start, after weigh-ins, after the start, and at the end of the tournament. In addition, fans can review results from each of the five years worth of Hokie Open tournaments. It's really not that hard... Next year we will Webcast as much of the tournament as possible, for the benefit of college wrestling fans. We try to do something more every year. Wrestling fans deserve more. Building on Jason Bryant's response, when I arrived in VA back in 2004, Jason was doing an amazing job of informing the wrestling public in VA, we just followed his lead and expanded on it, at least as far as putting the VA HS state championships out there, as well as the Hokie Open from it's inauguration. Jason provided an excellent blueprint for keeping fans aware of what's going on, and in doing so, inspired others to do more as well. Bottom line - it is definitely a collaborative arrangement involving the participating teams (providing info on their rosters, AND providing the participants who produce the content through their wrestling), the hosting team (Virginia Tech) and their coaches and SID staff, the arena making infrastructure available, and amazing volunteers. Keeping wrestling fans informed can be done and it should be done whenever possible! Donald Squires A small part of an amazing group of Hokie Open volunteers who also happen to be wrestling Fans
  18. Thanks for the kind words - it is what wrestling fans deserve - good coverage. Now that we see we can get high-speed Internet bandwidth (for the first time) from the arena owner, we plan to do a live (and archived) audio-video Webcast of as much wrestling as possible next year.
  19. The fifth annual Hokie Open collegiate open wrestling tournament, held on Sunday, November 4, 2012, is now complete. 315 wrestlers competed in the 2012 Hokie Open. Real time results were available online via SikoraSoft PaperlessTourney and KAPWrestling.net. FINAL RESULTS are posted online, as well as other tournament details, at: http://www.HokieOpen.com Brackets were posted immediately after weigh-ins were complete. The tournament could be followed real time via a link to KAP Wrestling that is provided on the Hokie Open site, or you could have gotten there directly at: http://kapwrestling.net/ Rich tournament details are available post-tournament on the KapWrestling site. Users need to be registered users with KAP Wrestling (free registration). Once online and logged in, viewers can follow the action real-time on all mats, including upcoming matches and the current match. A high level of detail is available for this year's tournament as well, including an ability for the user to see results by wrestler, by team, sequence of points scored in individual matches, and more. Previous tournament results are also available on this site. Many thanks to all of the wrestlers, coaches, fans and volunteers involved in this year's tournament! Enjoy... 2012 Hokie Open Tournament Staff
