  1. Have to agree. A very late start to turn exclusively to greco. By the time they figure it out, their bodies would have taken a tremendous beating. In Russia, the coaches separate guys going greco and those going freestyle at around age 10; their entire training is then lasered in on that one discipline. A guy here starting to focus on just greco at around age 22 or 23 will always be behind the elite foreigners; it's a little easier to transition for heavyweights for technical reasons (Adam Coon), but it's a rare American who does four years of collegiate and then picks up greco and can contend for medals on a consistent basis. Think of it--Joe Warren's world title was more than a decade ago.
  2. Two to ten will cramp his training schedule!
  3. Anyone with any inside information on the Georgian hippie, Yuri Lomadze? Seems he was implicated in some sort of assault, "illegal deprivation of liberty and group violence" that was "based on revenge." https://www.instagram.com/p/CCRXKMJjWh6/?igshid=bfepus0o0m7l&fbclid=IwAR3P92DzGehmEMW5Nf7Tko56vj33toWrntJM3pxs0eQupYGd6kVZ8JV7aJ0
  4. I think it was a little aggressive but could have been returned with a complimentary slap and all would have been fine. It was certainly not in the league of Joe Warren-style punching! https://www.flowrestling.org/video/6746560-joe-warren-likes-to-open-with-a-hard-club
  5. Man, the DQ was tough to watch. First call, okay, I get it, but the second one was not flagrant in the least. Bayramov had his head lower than Sourian most of the bout; tough not to have some contact, particularly when Sourian has a great level change to high dive and came very close to locking up; looked like Bayramov was defending that and backing out when Sourian rushed him, probably hoping to force a push out. Seems like a wrestler of his stature would be given the benefit of the doubt in that circumstance. Not like there was 10 seconds left and he was frustrated and just took it out on his opponent. JMHO
  6. Works well when the defensive man blocks off your tricep and won't let you switch out front to a double on your head outside leg attack. Lacing the arm inside and collecting the far ankle/calf negates the arm block and actually leads, in my opinion, to more possibilities. Kharchilava is the master of this--his coach was Anatoli Belaglazov with Club Dynamo back in Russia. Great lineage of technical mastery.
  7. Classy guy--always gave a great effort, never embarrassed the sport. Overcame quite a bit and was very unheralded. Best to him in retirement and props for wanting to give back. More like him...
  8. We call it a Russian lace--Miron Kharchilava special. Can be done in folkstyle as well as a breakdown or a finish to a head outside single--very effective in many positions.

  10. RUTGERS it is... https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/6752606-sebastian-rivera-transferring-to-rutgers?fbclid=IwAR1RjDHjHxKHe6p5POuBbuM0S-KwaPbuAkw_nDXiUWsC5enqWzmABjf5RUE&utm_campaign=news&utm_medium=socialmedia&utm_source=facebook&utm_content=article&utm_term=thumbnail.sebastianriveratransferstorutgers
  11. I actually felt White was very understanding and NOT critical of Rohskopf; White's usually not one to get too bogged down in empathy but he extended it to the fighter. I didn't get the impression UFC was ditching Rohskopf and inferred White was talking specifically about this one bout and not Rohskopf's future with his organization. I guess we'll see.
  12. Not defending Rohskopf--everyone's entitled to their view of what happened--but short notice for a fight is tough and, if everyone's being honest, there are just days you don't have it. Can remember some competitions where the legs just weren't there, the timing was off, etc. It happens. One huge difference is Rohskopf was taking blows to the head on his off day and not getting outslicked on a mat. Dana White's opinion as far as Rohskopf's future is more important than anyone's on a board. White doesn't pull punches and is quick to call someone out for an embarrassing performance. His take: “Let me tell you what: In this (expletive) sport, if you’re done, you’re done. You should absolutely be able to quit. I know that it’s frowned upon, but guess what? Anybody that would talk (expletive) about you quitting isn’t in there fighting. It’s real easy to be a critic. With what these kids do, this is a whole ‘nother level, man. … When you get here, this is a whole different level, man. “He’s gotta get up tomorrow and look himself in the mirror and figure out who he is and what he wants to do,” White said. “There is no shame in getting here and finding out that you’re not it. There’s no shame in that at all. He gave it a shot, didn’t work out. Anybody who would try to ridicule a kid like that, (expletive) you. Come try it. Come try and do what he did tonight. Very few people can do it.”
  13. Should be noted that Waylon Lowe also has a 3rd place from the NAIA that doesn't count toward his total. One tough dude.
  14. Like it. When I was on the board of the NWCA back in the 90s I pushed this. Use the first semester to get the young guys acclimated to college study demands, conditioning, etc. Second semester, begin with competition, take advantage of the warm weather for weight management, everyone who is academically eligible to start will be eligible for the end, avoid media competition with b-ball's March Madness, championship in late April, still almost two months afterwards to focus on grades without the stress of travel and competing.
  15. HORRID I SAY! Banish any such rubbish from all wrestling media sources! Just the lamestream media pushing its agenda! And no more garbage about wrestlers disarming criminals, overcoming cancer, being born without limbs, beating poverty and the loss of loved ones! I want box scores! Just the facts! Who scored how many takedowns and the time of the fall only!
  16. Man, would love to see a certain person's reaction when someone breaks the news to him that the world isn't flat...
  17. God forbid we get a glimpse of the human side of an athlete. A look at struggles they've faced off the mat. And nothing was mentioned about her "sex life." If an article is about Jordan Burroughs being married with three kids while training as a world-class athlete, is that about his "sex life"? 2020 and no hindsight, insight, foresight, just blindness from too many people...
  18. Ott wrestled for Illinois but was an Ohio guy.
  19. My son is a former wrestler and current Army Airborne Ranger and veteran of Iraq. We talk about this all the time and he's pretty clear. He and others fight to protect rights those in other countries aren't allowed to exercise. Does he stand during the anthem? Yes. Is he offended if others choose to kneel? No. Why? Because that's a right Americans are privileged to enjoy. Unlike North Korea, Iran, Belarus, and other places, citizens here don't have to stand, sit, kneel, etc., when commanded. That's the beauty of being an American. You want to live somewhere where you're forced to stand, bow, or dance when the great leader enters--or else--plenty of places to go for that. Thank God America is not one of those places and we should all pray it never is.
  20. "If we cannot respect the rights of fellow Americans to express opinions about political matters without trying to use mob rule to beat them down we have a problem in this country." The last few years have moved us way past that.
  21. Some a y'all too much...
  22. No, Scraplife made a very bad decision on who to hire and is paying the price for that decision. I mean, what does wrestling teach us but that sometimes life just ain't fair and the breaks don't always fall our way. Ownership of and consequences for our decisions--what's so hard to understand? They hired a loose cannon who has turned off many people. If they really didn't know this guy was out to lunch and a live round, I feel somewhat bad for them, but shame on them for not being more careful about their hiring choices and whom they allow at the control of their website; if they are good folks (and truly don't support his BS), may they learn and vet their people more closely in the future.
  23. https://gifrific.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Chris-Farley-Smile-to-Shock-Reaction.gif Jeepers, a wrestling product company shouldn't use its platform to push divisive political rhetoric during times of unrest or it might hurt their business???? CONCEPT!
  24. Detroit--it was '67. Was there. Oh, and here in Detroit now, lots of protest but very peaceful.
