Amazing that there was ever a 48 k. weight class (which I competed in many a year and kilo ago). I like 57 as the lowest weight for seniors. I really like your 6-weight suggestion--makes great sense.

Coach_J reacted to GoNotQuietly in Taylor-Ruth Officiating
Sure, but the objective is to suck the guy under and then step over the gut...if you pull the leg under only to end up with you getting gutted then you shouldn't get points, imo.

Coach_J reacted to GoNotQuietly in Taylor-Ruth Officiating
The physics of Taylor "elevating" Ruth from the bottom of a tripod and forcing him over to his back don't make much sense to me, and the only way I would award him points is if he subsequently stepped over the gut OOB. Ruth was driving forward for the gut which involves driving the hip under. 2 Ruth or 2+2 Ruth.
The second action was probably Ruth's initiation, however the freestyle rules pretty explicitly state that the attacking wrestler driving the double is to be awarded. 4 Taylor.

Coach_J reacted to boconnell in Anthony Valencia -- big baby
What's your source for Valencia's junk?

Coach_J reacted to boconnell in Anthony Valencia -- big baby
A fair enough assessment. I thought the punches and kicks were bad, but to me the worst thing is that Valencia never went that hard at Perry at any point in the match. This isn't basketball or baseball where you have to go outside the action to hurt a guy. Valencia had 5 minutes to show how tough he was and instead he backed up and crawled out of bounds on his knees to avoid the push out half a dozen times. Then after the butt kicking is over, he's all of a sudden a tough guy?

Coach_J reacted to Plasmodium in LeValley Disq
It is on Flo. He was wrestling Massa. As he always does, LeValley grabbed a Russian tie. They were tussling for position and he was putting Massa's hand on the mat. Rather than square up, Massa repeatedly turned away from him. LeValley didn't let go and it morphed into something that could have been really bad. It was probably an illegal hold, but it was definitely Massa that made it that way.

There was a time when Abdullahgadzhi used to stand for American wrestlers. Then, he joined the Dark Side.

Ummm the best time to use anabolic steroids to gain an advantage would be when you are out of competition...

Coach_J reacted to maligned in Mohammad Mohammadian NEW!
Unfortunately, we've had cheaters at the highest level of every sport--including all international sports--whenever doping does or could bring an advantage. If you think we (the U.S.) don't have top guys looking into how to get an edge, you're naive to human nature. I will cheer on every U.S. guy with the expectation that each individual is clean unless they're proven not to be--but the thought that all the world is dirty and we're 100% clean in any sport in this modern age (including wrestling) is silly.

Recent doping scandals involving both Russian and Iranian wrestlers now. Interesting. Maybe the playing field isn't as level as we thought.

Dude is flat out crazy. Ran onto the mat last year during a dual just because his kid got slammed. Security had to get involved. Ironically he was slammed out of frustration due to Walter's incessant stalling.

Coach_J reacted to rstrong in J'Den Cox pinned by Wellington?
Couldn't agree more - our sport prides itself on a high level of sportsmanship.
Bad = Cox shouldn't have had to have been pushed by coaches to go back and shake hands.
Good = Cox did go back and shake hands.
It's all a work in progress.

Coach_J reacted to Pinnum in J'Den Cox pinned by Wellington?
I just watched the match. I don't think either wrestler did anything wrong. Cox lifted him and he was driving but it didn't look like he was trying to slam Wellington and contrary to claims by some I don't think Wellington was trying to roll through. Based on the replay I think it was Wellington's foot getting caught in the table (which shattered the lights) that sent his head down right into the floor.
I don't think Cox handled it well but I can understand why he wouldn't handle it well. In his !mind, I have to think, he didn't feel as though he did anything malicious and was not only being penalized for it but was suffering a loss to someone that has been a thorn in his side.
I am sure both will come back strong but there is no doubt in my mind that I wouldn't have had Wellington continue if I was Ohio. Even if Wellington would have had to fft himself it wouldnt have been worth the risk to send him out there after hitting his head.
To be honest, the only thing in the match that surprised me was that Cox yelled to someone in the stands during the first period. What's that all about?

Coach_J got a reaction from xander in I really enjoyed the J Rob era
Just as one bad season in 20 doesn't make you a bad coach, one good season in 20 doesn't make you a good coach. Law of averages--the pendulum swings even a bad coach's way at some point.
