    Coach_J,

After reading your last response, we don't differ as much as I thought on this subject.  The arbiter clause is hard to swallow.  My only issue with this topic has been the personal attacks on Marable.  You have stated your argument is against the situation itself and I respect that.

Marable earned that right on an extremely controversial call that gave him the win over Schlatter (which with the video we have I am not sure how you could have ever given Marable 4 there).

I missed weight once in 8th grade due to an unfortunate circumstance, my teachers expected me to be in class not cut weight. Where do I send my appeal too get that match back? Not sure I can make the cut to 83lb now but if so I'm sure I can take that guy and pad my undefeated Middle School records.

Gonna be pretty awkward if Marable makes the team with potential teammates and training partners taking such a strong public stand against the situation.

Bad calls happen, unfortunately.  Lindland also appeared to bite Sieracki on the ear during the match without a call.

The fact that an arbitrator was able to come in and overrule the match officials is what I feel is most egregious about the Lindland/Sieracki debacle.

But USAW is not obligated to have a bylaw requiring them to abide by this ruling.  They choose to do so and apparently their bylaws allow for their own internal rulings to get trumped by an arbitrator.  I don't think having a bylaw allowing for an arbitrator to be brought in under certain circumstances is a bad thing.  But it is disingenuous to suggest that this ruling came down against the wishes of USAW.  USAW's bylaws allow for this to happen (and are not required to).

Scholarships are all too often a dirty business and recruits need to know they are one-year renewable (meaning, what you have one year may not be what you get the next year).  One of the kids I coached in high school began his D-I college career on a book scholarship, but won the starting job and eventually earned a full ride.  His redshirt senior year, when he was stuck where he was at with no transfer options, they cut him down to 15%.  Kind of sucked in my estimation (the kid qualified for nationals 3 times and wrestled through numerous health issues) but that's life when money is involved.

Part of me thinks though, that if Marable does represent our best shot to medal at World's, we should want him there.......Having said that, I am rooting for Green next weekend.

Just go to the Pan Am official site, Toronto2015.org. Click on wrestling, the date, and it shows every single match, score, time, which mat, etc.

Didn't get to watch any today, but the scores make it look like Salas had a close one with the Canadian in the first round, 7-4. Herbert's wins have been more decisive. On the same line of thought, Rey has won close matches while Jarvis from Canada has dominated and scored. Lot of points.

Snyder and Burroughs dominating. Surprised to see Cortina lose first round and be eliminated, that bronze from last year is looking weaker every time out. I was right about Lopez being no match for Burroughs, 13-3. Let's go for the clean sweep tonight boys!

I don't think anybody really gets down on Taylor. They just feel for him given the circumstances we all know.

Haven't seen the match but feet to back is 4. Butt or knees to back is. 2. It's worth noting that an exposure from knees or butt is no longer worth more than a td which changes strategy somewhat.

Also a td follower by a turn is 2 + 2. A turn first followed by control is just 2. One of the idiosyncrasies of the scoring system.

John Fisher?  He beat Smith.  I think he may have beaten Brands and Kolat before they turned the tables.

Lowell Lange, former NCAA champ, was the old coach you speak of that kept the program alive until his retirement. They had very little support; I don't think he was paid a dime.

When Minkel first arrived he had the program flying, recruiting great kids and crowning All-Americans consistently with occasional champs and title contenders.  The steam ran out, though, and this program has been a joke the past decade.  When the passion for college coaching left me, I got out because the sport deserved better.  The kids I know who have gone there recently have pretty much done what they've done on their own with no coherent gameplan or overreaching goal.  I guess the sole consolation is that the program has some sort of direction, as limited as the commitment seems to be.

This whole story can't get better can it? Well yes it can, Minkel is going to get deeper into professional poker after retirement!

It pains me to say, but this really isn't a change.  Expect more of the same.  Roger is a nice guy, but he is Minkel's guy.  The fact they aren't even interviewing potential candidates says it all.  The Athletic Department has no substantial interest in the Wrestling program and this transition will make the least waves.

Again, expect little to no change.

Rumor has it that Minkel will be taking over the golf program. He seems to do well getting the lowest score at Big 10's and NCAA's.
