This is not an anti-wrestling media smear, Hastert identified himself with wrestling frequently even after he was actually done being a wrestling coach.  (see Washington Post article)

Apparently he was wrestling coach at Yorkville for 15 years.( see the NYTimes article).  His memoir was subtitled something like "...lessons from forty years of coaching and politics".

The federal indictment was for violating banking laws regarding all these cash transactions.

One more crooked politician.  It is getting to be a redundancy.

    I agree.

There's a big difference between a man who sleeps with consenting adult women and a man who statutorily rapes young girls. Similarly, there is a big difference between a man who sleeps with consenting adult men and a man who statutorily rapes young boys.

I know that distinction is not easy for everyone to grasp, but in my opinion that is the relevant distinction.

With regard to Hastert's case in particular, the added issue is Hastert's anti-gay voting record in light of the apparent accusations against him.

Some of you seem incapable of distinguishing a pedophile from a homosexual.  Mike Pucillo "came out."  Sandusky, Hastert, Foley, et al., are serial pedophile predators.  Not even close to the same thing.

What do you mean "all of the profile wrestlers flying out of the closet"? Only one that I know of made any kind of public announcement. As for Hastert, I don't view it as an indictment of wrestling, there are pedophile coaches in sports across the board. We as parents and other teachers or coaches have to be vigilant of red flags.

Mark Foley, Larry Craig, Dennis Hastert. I don't know if there's a trend here, but the party of "traditional marriage" is looking worse every year.

Dennis Has Dirt is just one more high profile, revered name to go down the drain. "We" (wrestling) bring these people into our lives and Halls of Fame only to wind up regretting it. Unfortunately, there's no way to tell who's who. It's too tempting to jump on a band wagon and attach ourselves to a big name with lots of clout or money in the hope that somehow over the long run they'll be able to help wrestling merely by their association. Balloon deflated.

From USA Wrestling to go into effect immediately:

    General:
If Jury sees a mistake, they can ask the mat chairman to stop the bout and have a quick conference to get the situation correct.
They are not allowed to watch the video unless a challenge block is issued.

Challenges: Coaches can challenge any situation except: confirmed falls (whether a wrestler was pinned or not) and passivity - everything else can be challenged including a leg foul that caused a fall in GR - also if the challenge occurs and as a result cancels all the points in a situation (mainly for offensive leg fouls in GR), the bout will resume and the time left will be when the foul occurred that means time could go back on the clock. If the challenge does not cancel all points, then the time will resume where the bout was stopped.

    Freestyle:
    1. All turns are 2 points - doesn't matter if it is hand to hand - for example gut wrenches and leg laces will be 2-points.

    2. No auto touché on actions - no longer give up 1-point if the wrestler goes flat on their back when executing a hold.

    3. If attacking wrestler steps out first while attempting a move - if they complete the action the points will score  (same as before), if they do not score the opponent will get 1-point for the step-out (same as before), if the defensive wrestler is lifted and offensive wrestler steps out it will be no points and restart in standing position (change - but will rarely happen).

    4. It was emphasized that wrestlers are not allowed to push the other wrestler out of bounds.  This is the straight-arm shove near the edge. (Not a change just confirmed).

    Greco:
    1. No auto touché on actions - no longer give up 1-point if the wrestler goes flat on their back when executing a hold.

    2. Grand Amplitude actions (standing or from par terre) that do not land in Danger will receive 4-points (before it was 2-points)-this is now the same as it was last year.

    3. If attacking wrestler steps out first while attempting a move - if they complete the action the points will score (same as before), if they do not score the opponent will get 1-point for the step-out (NEW - same as FS), if the defensive wrestler is lifted and offensive wrestler steps out it will be no points and restart in standing position (this will mainly occur in lifts from the par terre).

I applaud him for speaking out.  Whether you agree or disagree with him on his positions (I happen to agree), I think it is great that he is speaking out publicly to try to improve the transparency and fairness of the sport.

He has taken to social media to question:

    1. The fairness of the automatic bye into WTT finals based on previous year's performance at World's/Olympics.

    2. The process used to make WTT WC selections.  Details are discussed in that other thread so I won't re-hash all of them here, but there are legitimate questions about couple of the selections.  In once case, it is not clear how a WC selection was even able to apply for a WC based on the published criteria.  In the other case, there were multiple candidates who met the application criteria, but only 1 could be selected (per published rules).  Dake is questioning what logic was used to pick one over the other.  He is not saying they were wrong per se (although he seems to think they might have been).  He is emphasizing the need for greater transparency in the decision making.

I find it refreshing that a guy his position would publicly ask these questions.

I suspect Dake is going to be in a Sr Leadership position within USA Wrestling some day after his career ends.  And I think he will be a great change agent that improves this fabulous sport.

I'm still going to root for DT when he wrestles Dake (PSU bias), but I am gaining more and more respect for KD all the time.

We were not talking about random tumble, but a battle situation. Meaning lot's of people running around. That's where you did NOT want to expose your belly while laying on the ground, but get up.

Also, judo was designed not to (badly) hurt your opponent, so the knife thing is ridiculous. More likely 25 seconds to keep the guy down to get help from someone else..

Any way, five point's back, yay.

No... But I've worked a variety of jobs where I've had to use physical restraints, and crossing the ankles (like a leg lace) is a pretty effective and non abusive way to stop someone from kicking.

Learning to control another persons body in itself is a great skill IMO even if the technique is freestyle wrestling specific.

What CoachJ said and then some. The general tone I get from the international governing body is they have absolutely no craps to give about the rest of us that love wrestling.

Based on the preseeds JB and Dake are out, Pico and Snyder are in.

Also in the new format for Greco the us open final doubles as match 1 of the WTTs. Those two finalists will have match 2, and 3 if needed, at the trials itself.

Dziedzic at least does read this board. There have been several rule changes and changes to the rankings that came out after being suggested here. Coincidence?

Now to UWW.... Leave the Greco rules as is and stop messing with them!

I do find it delicious that when Oregon dropped wrestling for baseball and competitive cheer they hired away the best coach Nike's money could buy and built a state-of-the-art baseball stadium with plans on future stadium expansion. The Oregon website says the stadium is designed to quickly make Oregon a regular fixture on the "Road to Omaha". Well, 6 years in and Oregon is a bad Pac-12 team that hasn't sniffed Omaha and ranks between #40-50 in attendance. None of these realities will bring wrestling back, but I'm happy that the mostly empty ballpark named for the AD that orchestrated the death of the wrestling program is home to a crap team.
