Coach_J got a reaction from silvermedal in Does anyone else think the Michigan thing is gross?
Micic and Amine proved (emphasis on "proved") they are in the top 5 in the world.  Wrestling would be better off if they were kept out of the tournament?  Made to wrestle for only one country when they legally possess dual citizenship because "patriots" don't like it?  Has world wrestling gotten even better, more competitive, and more challenging since the Soviet break-up?  God bless UM and any other place that legally and by the established rules allows a young person to pursue their potential.
Better to have a situation like Miron Kharchiliava's?  Won the Soviet junior national championship but was not allowed by the Soviet sports authorities to compete in the Junior World Championship; they sent the ethnic Russian Miron beat in the finals instead.  He defects to the US, and when the Soviet Union breaks up he is by law supposed to wrestle for the Republic of Georgia.  The problem is that he's Abkhazian, and the Georgians killed his father and cousins in their civil war.  Russia had not yet annexed Abkhazia, so he couldn't wrestle for Russia, Georgia, the US, or Abkhazia in his prime years as a wrestler.  A true man without a country.
Once he finally achieved US citizenship, he was near 40, injured, and well past his prime.  A shame he was never given an opportunity.
Let these young guys wrestle.  If they follow the rules, put in the time and sacrifice, more power to them.  Especially if they are training with a lot of young US kids, showing them what it takes to reach the highest level.

Comprehension?  Sure. Your post said “cakewalk to an Olympic berth for San Marino” Making the San Marino national team does not give you an Olympic berth. Placing top five in the world does, and is far from a cakewalk.
I get what you’re saying now, but being smartass because you didn’t accurately write out what you were meaning doesn’t make you cool. It makes you look like someone incapable of saying oops, I goofed on that one a little bit.
    Have a nice evening.

It's a simplistic world where: You are fine with your government have deep military ties to Pakistan -- a country that doesn't recognize Israel. You are fine with putting gas in your car from Saudi Arabia -- another country that doesn't recognize Israel. You are fine with your country having deep economic ties to Qatar -- another country that doesn't recognize Israel. And you are fine with your country launching a war to protect Kuwait -- another country that doesn't recognize Israel.
But you super outraged by Abounader wrestling for, and then quitting, Team Lebanon. It's really amazingly moronic.

Those "random draws" kept coming out smellin' pretty darn good for Team Kazahkstan!  Pure coincidence I'm sure as we all know UWW/FILA's history of spotless integrity is beyond reproach...

He just beat Shabonov (3x world medalist), Takatani (world silver), and Torreblanca (Pan Am champ who beat Downey) and he would have no chance against the Deans, Ruth, Hall, or Ringer?  Alrighty then...

You let your son wrestle Torreblanca with a broken back? What a horrible father. You're lucky he doesn't have permanent spinal damage.

By some remarkable coincidence, the Kazakhs managed to avoid virtually all the strong non-seeded guys until the SF/F.
At 57kg Amiraslanov, Atri, Fix, Yatsenko, Bekhbayar, Armenian Euro Champ and Kumar all unseeded and all on the other bracket to Sanayev, giving him an easy path to the semis.
At 65kg unseeded Haji Aliyev, Rashidov, Amir Yazdani, Valdes - same story, giving Niyazbekov clear road to the SF. Then lucky calls went his way (to say the last), giving him a final.
At 70kg unseeded Green, Gadzhiev, Navruzov and Baev all on the other bracket to Kaipanov!
I could go on but I think you get the idea...

How am I hurt by this "battle"? Just because a  bunch of doofuses want to make the same argument that rankings are not rankings and that guys who are not ranked are really ranked (an implicitly that  Pat  Downey is a world class  wrestler despite being teched by an unranked German) does not mean I have to agree.

KAZ managed to qualify every weight but 86kg and 125kg.
And all they had to do to qualify 86kg was beat the Colombian. But their guy couldn’t do that.

Honestly I am sure avoiding all the stress and focus of criticism that PD3 had to face was probably extremely beneficial.
Being able to focus on getting better while learning from an old school great.
Add in that he is probably one of the most fundamentally sound wrestlers we have seen in a while and he's going to succeed at any style of wrestling.
He lacks that funk and athleticism we see in other high-end prospects, but he makes up for it with consistency, cardio, control, and grit. Add in that he is always getting better and he will continue to surprise doubters who don't think he can win at the highest level just because he is an American wrestling for a different country l.
