  1. It seems that most people on here believe that Dake or Taylor may beat Burroughs in the near future. Although they might that doesn't mean that they will have the international success that Burroughs has had the past 3 years. The more likely scenario is that one of them could beat Burroughs then go to worlds or Olympics and not medal. It would be nice to see them compete overseas and see how they well they would do. I think about Hvrovat (?) he spent a lot of time overseas but couldn't make the US team. If I remember correctly, he did pretty well while he was there.
  2. First off, congratulations to the guys that competed. Considering that we don't tend to do this well at international events. How does this tournament rank compared to the other tournaments in terms of toughness? I don't think it hurts for our guys to go and compete internationally and hopefully will help increase performance at the senior level but I'm just curious.
  3. Would you say Brands, Smith, and Jrob were more lucky than great when they were winning their titles? I am a huge Brands fan but same maybe said for him if he doesn't win a title in the next couple of years. I believe Smith sits in a class by himself because his teams are beating expectations at nationals the last couple of years. JRob's teams always seem to implode. They should have been the perianal 2nd place team the last few years but have found ways to not do as good as expected. If I had to go with a list of coaches that developed their talent well over the last couple of years, it would probably look like this: Smith Cael Brands JRob
  4. Overall, I agree. It has been about 10 years since a team has won a NCAA title based only on their development of their recruits. Brands had won multiple titles because he left VT and took guys with him to Iowa. Cael left Iowa state and benefited from DT going with him and then Long showing up mid season along with Ruth and Wright already on the rooster. Those events probably kept Okie State and Minnesota winning titles along the way. There is no clear favorite next year but if he doesn't win another team championship in the next 4 years then we have to say he has been more lucky than great.
  5. From my understanding, Ruth wanted to go to Penn State and would have gone there regardless of who was the coach but I don't know about Wright. But the question is not about Penn State it is if he is a great recruiter then why couldn't he attract guys to Iowa State. Iowa State would have had maybe two national champion in Taylor and Ruth, and can't remember if Reader placed first or second but that would have been a very high placing team.

  7. TBar1977, I think there is a difference between being a great coach and a great recruiter. If he would have stayed at Iowa State, do you think he would have won at least one NCAA title by now? He didn't think so that is why he left. He felt that he was loosing the recruiting battle to Iowa and pretty much couldn't recruit a national championship team at Iowa State. As for the accomplishments that he has gotten since he has been there has as much to do with things that having Ruth on the team, a guy that decided on his own to be at Penn State then his ability to recruit a great team. Not sure but I think Qwright was also own the team but would not have been if he was at Iowa State. For the record, I am not holding his titles against him because Brands titles were won much in the same way.
  8. Cael will be defined as a coach and a recruiter based on the results of what happens with Zain's class. For him to be considered a great recruiter he has to get top level guys to take less money just to compete for Penn State. On that measure he has already lost Chance so he may not be. I he was fortunate to have Taylor follow him to Penn State and not use athletic scholarship money so he could give money to someone else on the team and make the team better. (not confirmed but I heard that Taylor was on an academic scholarship...full ride)
  9. Does this mean the offensive wrestler must shoot a guy out of bounds in order to not get hit for stalling? Is the guy on defense not stalling because he is defending a shot? Who is called for stalling if the offensive guy is forcing the other guy out of bounds and they both go out? A wrestler not engaged in an offensive attack or a defensive counter to an offensive attack who is only attempting to push or pull the opponent out of bounds will be called for stalling.
  10. Nope just stating the fact that it is hard to hear some of the interviews.
  11. They sucked too much background noise. Hope it gets better.
  12. As weird as it may seem but is USA wrestling stacking the deck against Burroughs? Russians would never even consider not sending their 3x world champion to worlds so he could win his 4th.
  13. The main problem as I see it is that DT may could win the spot then go 0-2 at worlds and JB could loose the spot and win a 4th. world title. American guys have to train against each other and learn how to beat Americans but then struggle against the rest of the world. Hate to say it but I favor the "international rule" We see this play it self out in college rooms all the time where the back up seems to beat the starter a wrestle off but they go to a tournament and the back up is a low placer and the starter wins the tournament.
  14. Just because you believe that it is "so positive for out sport" please don't insinuate that this has anything to do with being bad for the sport. I do have some strong views about flo, I believe they have been positive for the sport but more often than not lately when you try and click through to something that is featured on their homepage then the floPro thing pops up. More often than not then I click off all together instead of stayin on the site. Fact is I wouldn't waste my time and click the video if I knew it was under the pay side. I am a die hard wrestling fan and it is not a good user experience for me so, how do you think that user experience is for someone who is only a casual fan, in a time when there is a lot of talk about making the sport more relevant on college campuses and to casual fans.
