I am sure he is a great guy but I would be more worried about the loss of Russell than excited about his hire. National coach for 2 cycles and we sucked the entire time. Iowa State got progressively worse each year he was the head coach. Maybe some guys are more suited to be assistant coaches. Hopefully this is the case but his track record really isn't that impressive.

These days, all he does is lock himself in his studio for hours on end and creates the same art over and over..... nudes of Bubba Jenkins. Sometimes it's paintings, sometimes sculptures, but it's always Bubba and he's always nude. I hope this answers your question.

I've been thinking the same thing a little.

"Does Micic still care about folkstyle wrestling?"
If he's in prime form he can win it, if not. .... Might be a lousy performance.

As far as Desanto goes. With Micic/Fix/RBY/Vitali (is he here this year )/ Suriano/ and then all those fringe guys ... I'll assume he gets 4th/5th

He's as impressive as they come, it's just a tough weight

Bill wrestled for gable in the mid 90s. He won NCAAs his senior year in 1996.  Gable was retired by the time Bill won worlds in 2006 so it's not clear how much credit Gable deserves.  Still I think you are thinking of Bill's brother Mike who wrestled for Zalesky.  He won a world silver in 2006 which I omitted from the list because he didn't wrestle for Gable.
Cael's doing great but the numbers favor Gable. Even taking away 1984, 9 of Gable's wrestlers won world level medals.  Cael hasn't had 9 wrestlers make world teams yet (Paulson, Paulson, Varner, Ruth, Molinaro, Zain, Taylor).  Gable has coached upwards of 20 wrestlers to world team spots.

I believe that Taylor is probably more respected internationally.  To the Russians, Cael is champion of the "students division." and a one time World/Olympic champ who looked inept in par terre.

Snyder did make the change of scenery to help him specifically challenge sadulaev. The gap is actually widening.

Gillman appears better Snyder is not. So NLWC is 1-1 on transfers? Strong..

Somebody asked the strategy to this match in a different post and I said the last match left people questioning who was better, so the most likely change we see here is Saduleav trying to get some separation to reinforce who is the actual better wrestler.
    And he did that.
Snyder pretty consistently beats everyone not named Saduleav (save for Mohamedian and Sharifov if you want)
He's not slower, underperforming, not conditioned, etc etc etc...
He's just not as good. I have no doubt Saduleav (like Cox vs the guys we see him beat 3-2) could turn it on at any point and tech Snyder, but that's just not how he wrestles anyone.... he takes opportunities when presented, and if he wins 8-1 or 6-3 he's content

(Note* the Olympic match fooled me just like everyone else, I really thought Snyder was getting so much Cael Infused Religious Kool-Aid that he was closing the gap...... Not the case)

Snyder is too one dimensional to beat one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.

The gap has widened quite a bit. When was the last time Snyder was shut out?

And where's the dude who thought Nickal could not only beat Saduleav, but pin him?

exactly.... i think we are putting too much stock in snyder being great to evaluate sad.
maybe you were right in the 1/3 world championship comment... was that you? i cant remember.
but maybe 97 just isn't that tough?
i know i know.. its a tongue in cheek remark.

my point was missed... in the beginning... for someone who is the best at any weight ever, he doesn't do much against great competition until he has a lead

JB would be after the guy until he scored. tied/down/ahead. in my book, thats better. someone making something happen, not waiting for something to happen.
injured or not. and injured quite a bit.

Russia really should have sent a long in the tooth Gatsalov in 2016 even losing to Bolt who was roided up. I mean it was a ton of 35 year old guys like Yazdani, Gazyumov, Ibragimov, Saritov, Andriytsev and a young Snyder. Looking at it now it makes sense that Snyder could handle a bunch of guys cardio wise who weren’t in great shape in there primes let alone 31-35 years old.

There WAS a video on the forum here where Yarygin is laying waste to Russ Hellickson.  I think he would give Sadulaev everything he ever wanted. Not sure what happened to the video. Scoring and turns with EXTREME PREJUDICE!

I think Reza Yazdani in 2011-2013 would be a tough matchup as he was only 5’8-5’9” tall and built like a tank. He smashed Varner. Varner drew into a weak side in the olympics and Yazdani had to go through Gadisov early on and was injured in the semis. Man that was a brutal side and when 96kg was the toughest weight by far. 97 is one of the worst weights now, probably the worst Olympic weight depth wise.

When Snyder won it was because he got the previous era of mediocre conditioning guys tired such as Gadisov, Gazyumov and a undersized Sadulaev. Only difference is he realized all he had to do to beat Snyder is improve his conditioning and grow into the weight naturally and since then Snyder has had nothing for him.
