  1. January 29 15 matches scheduled. Mark Hall’s return to the mats against Nate Jackson.
  2. I’ve been to over 30 NCAA tournaments and I’ve got Gwiz-Snyder as one of the all time great matches. Gwiz going for his third and the match lived up to the hype. Gwiz like Trenge just needed to run for a few seconds to win.
  3. The Ivies have their own guidelines and there is an article in the Phila Inquirer about winter sports commenting on basketball specifically. It was not encouraging. They haven’t specified when they will start and talked about an Ivy only schedule as a possibility. Also saw a quote from Koll that was very pessimistic.
  4. I lost in the New York state finals to Jack Spates in 1970 at 107. Not sure how tall Jack was but a helluva lot taller than my 5’5”.
  5. 2012 EIWA Tournament was the worst case of unsportsmanlike conduct I have seen in my 55 years of watching and competing. Billy George of Cornell was wrestling Nathaniel Brown from Lehigh. Winner qualified for nationals. Right as the match finished George stood up and dropped down kneeing Brown in the head. Brown was unable to go to nationals and had to drop a class or two that semester. George was back next year wrestling and I don’t remember Cornell punishing him with the loss of any matches. I was matside and saw the whole thing unfold.
  6. Desanto Tucker at EIWA’s every bit as bad as the Micic match.
  7. Andy Matter at 174. 2 time champ. Freshmen not eligible back then. As a soph he was seeded second. Was winning 10-0 in the first round and got pinned. Couldn’t wrestle back. I would put him over Brown.
  8. Portland State University. Pay attention to what you read. If you read it at all.
  9. Brandon Slay and Yoshi Nakamura. Brian Snyder and Yoshi both lost to Becker in the semis and finals when he got the choice and took bottom. Terrible ot rules back then. He ran from Yoshi who beat him during the season and he got the first takedown off a Snyder shot giving him choice. Snyder chased him all over the mat.
  10. USWF. UNITED STATES WRESTLING FOUNDATION. Many people are not familiar with them but they raise a lot of money and have been instrumental in helping start many of the new programs recently. Jeff Waters is the president and the board is filled with many of our greatest wrestlers and coaches.

  12. Eric Devos won in Minnesota twice and Iowa. Lost to Clark in the finals his senior year. Started out at Penn projecting at 125 then back to Univ of Iowa finally landing at Wartburg where he won a national title at 174. Kid got bigger.
  13. Retherford the OW and Nickal the pins. Personally I give the OW TO Nickal. 3 pins and beats Dean a two time champ.
  14. This will be approximately my 30th tournament. I wrestled at Maryland in 1972 and at Princeton 1975.
  15. 12 seed Casey Kent NCAA 4th gets Jadean Bernstein former EIWA champ who he just beat 1-0 in the 3rd place match.
